I'd rather buy a used one already built but everyone seems to be holding on to their campers like a boa with a good rat. keitholivier Posted June 24, 2007 Share Posted June 24, 2007 Sisu Its a matter of economics. A recent Tundra or Tacoma doesn't come cheap either (about as much as a 92 model motorhome). There are lots of places that will build you whatever you want on the back of a truck, if its OK with you to spend >$20k besides the cost of the truck. A new turbodiesel cab/chassis is about $35k at the dealer. If you go and look at diesel MH's you wil find that they retail at the $70k plus level. So one is loking at a $35k "value add" which of course includes profit, distribution, financing charges (since everyone borrows money to build anything nowadays..) I'm personally considering getting into the coachbuilding side of things, but maybe by the time I have rebuilt mine I may no longer find it such an attractive way to earn a living.... We shall see...
