reblwing Posted April 25, 2007 Share Posted April 25, 2007 hey fellow toy owners. wife and i bought a 84 new horizon last year. love it, but want to upgrade to a 1 ton axle. is this an easy swap? wouldn't do it myself, will have our mechanic do it. what should we look for on trying to find a replacement and making it fit? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
picklebill Posted April 25, 2007 Share Posted April 25, 2007 Hi Reblwing - It is a good idea to upgrade to the full floating axle. The most likely source now is a junkyard (or to be politically correct, auto dismantler). I have seen several Toyota based motorhomes in our local dismantlers so they can be found. Also a junked 1 ton Toyota pickup with the 1 ton axle will work. I think it requires some modification to the chassis to retrofit these - replacing spring and shock mounts, Etc.
