keitholivier
I have noticed that aluminum honeycomb panels are available (about 0.8" or 0.4" thick 0.02" facings 6061T6) for about $7.50/sq ft. The panels weigh abut 1lb/sq ft which would be a substantial weight reduction compared to plywood or the original chipboard. This material could be used for not only rebuilding the exterior, but also all/most the interior furnishings. I have worked out that the material cost would be around $4k before finishing the inside and outside. The outside would not need siding and can be ordered painted or powdercoated. The inside obviously needs insulation and trimming. The weight of the shell (without floor) would be 580lb. Does anyone have an idea how much the original coachwork weighs (22ft) ? It looks like 1/2" particleboard is about 2.2x the weight of the honeycomb panel. regards Keith
