LED Running Lights

Recommended Posts

I am going to replace my current running lights with LED lights , as they seem to be more reliable and tolerant of voltage drops.

Anyone know where to get a good deal on a set of these ?

I am going to need 7 red and 9 amber (I want 2 for my boat trailer).

I see some sets on E-Bay , but they come in sets of 6. I asked a few of the sellers if they would make a mixed set , but they said they couldn't. So it looks like I may have to order 2 complete sets of each color.

I am also going to price them at the RV store. It may end up being the same price , when I factor in shipping.

How much do these normally go for per piece ?

I just bought a set with one extra for each color. Got them on ebay from this guy http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Closer-To-Whol...e__W0QQ_armrsZ1 $5.99 each for the 12 led ones. There are some other sellers offering package deals too. Only thing is they have little slots in the side for bringing the wires out for certain types of install where the wires can be run internally. But you just have to seal them up. The 12 led ones are bright! One thing to ask before you buy is what color the actual led emits. It need to emit the color of the lens. The really cheap ones emit white light and the lens filters out all the colors except red or amber. The ones that are the color of the lens will be brighter. Here is a site with a ton of led info http://www.superbrightleds.com/

I also swapped out my tail lights to the bargman led replacements. You have to replace your blinker with the electronic type as the mechanical type will not see the led assembly and flash at a rapid rate like when your bulb is burned out.

Thanks Greg !

I ordered a set and hopefully I will have time to install them next week.

When you say replace the blinker , do you mean the small rectangular metal "box" near the fuse box ?

I may just end up getting the LED tailights as well. I like the idea that you never really have to worry about them burning out , and you don't have to worry about bad or corroded connections , as with an incandescent bulb....

I don't know where the blinker is as my new one is still in the box. Just turn them on and follow the click click click.

Here is where I bought the tail http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-ligh...ght-bulbs-1.htm

I got half of the running lights installed so far. How much did those Bargman LED tail lights run you , Greg ? I am thinking about a set of those as well.

They were about $60 each set which for me, for a set, turn, stop and reverse so abot $120 plus shipping. Don't remember shipping. And thats on sale (right now) as normally they are $85 each! The reverse is not a led but the standard incandescent. So if your reverse is OK then perhaps the upgrade kit would be cheaper if you just need stop and turn. My reverse socket was really rusted so I opted for all three. They went in real easy, almost. The hole they insert into was not cut large enough on my drivers side. Not a bargman defect but a construction anomaly by the coach manufacture. I had to trim the edges of the coach body to get the tail assembly to slide in. All in all the whole job was under an hour.

I replaced all my running lights with LED lights purchased from the "light house" in West Sacramento, CA. They cost around $8.50 apiece. If you would like more info let me know and i'll track all the info down for you.

How many LEDS in each light and are the leds themselves red and amber? That seems a bit expensive.

I took a look at these but they do not appear to be the right size and I am not really sure as to how to measure these recessed units (edge to edge of the outside frame; recessed part, etc). I have a 88 Sunrader with the original Reflect-O-Lite #400. Do you know if these will fit?
