Winter Antifreeze: Do We Really Need It

I talked to someone here in OHIO tonight and he said he does not use antifreeze. All he does is make sure his water lines are drained dry before the winter and they will not freeze up and bust.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,

It is not necessary to run antifreeze through the whole system. In addition to blowing out the lines you need to make sure there is no water in the your hot water heater. You do need to add some antifreeze to the ptraps.
