GreyDawg
Hey guys: My "new" 89 Itasca Spirit has a no evidence of roof leaks, and I want to keep it that way. The caulking around the vents, etc looks good. I don't know if it was ever replaced or is original. What about the roof? I think it is a rubber roof, right? Do I need to recoat or seal it every couple of years? Do I have to take off the a/c and the antenna and the vents to do that right (I envision having some rubber stuff to "paint" on the roof, right?) As you can see, I am sort of clueless here. Thanks, Zack '89 Itasca Spirit
turtle
That model has a solid aluminum roof. Someone may have put a roof coating on it. You can continue to re-coat it to keep it looking fresh but the coating will not do more than make it look nice as it should not leak. I prefer Dyco 890 as it is an solvent based elestomeric compound with teflon. It stays white longer and the teflon keeps 'crud" from sticking to it. http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/fiberglassRoofDone.jpg http://www.toymike.com/forSale/dyco890Front.jpg http://www.toymike.com/forSale/dyco890Back.jpg You "should" remove all vents and stacks, clean the old butyl putty tape off of them, apply new putty tape, and re-install them. This is the proper way to maintain the waterproof seal of these through the roof objects.
