  1. One of the major causes of burned valves is racing the eng. before the oil can circulate. Specially when its cold, valvetrain needs to be lubed well before hitting high and prolonged rpms!
  2. They're just like the Toy's. Same coach plan same company have the 18' and 21' models. V-6 and 4 cyl. used auto trans and 4 & i think the 5 spd. manuals
  3. Don't know anything about awnings. I believe that its fiberglas, haven't worked with any. Should be an easy fix. Send moosepucky a pm, he just did a fiberglas roof.
  4. I have seen as late as 88 model, don't know how long past that they stayed in business. Some say the recall on rearends put them under. mho is it was shoddy craftsmanship that did it. Their newer than 85 models may have been good, but those old ones like mine. Just poorly made with cheap coach building materials. Outside of mine needs to be reskinned and top roof and underneath bottom. Too costly for me i will fix mine well enought to get several years of camping out of it. Then it will be put under a pole barn and folks who come to visit will have a guest house. I'll be looking for a Sunrader late next year or following year.
  5. OK the main corp. was General RV, another a/c installed at least a grand. It probably has the 3/8" ply with carpet over it and foam under, like mine. Good new batteries $150 area. Tires maybe dry rotted 8x100=$800 mount and balance put on MH. Ck. grey and blk. holding tanks , new ones about $300. Hey they can become a money pit!
  6. Luxtrans Industries, San Bernadino Cal. I have a 79 named the Odd Duck. NADA guide is about worthless. An 86 long Toy MH in good cond. everything works no leaks and so on. Is a 6 grand MH, if things are wrong deduct the going price of replacement equipment. Pay attention to roof and flooring for holes and leaks. If its alum. skinned look, for any bubbles. That alum. deteriation and it if it has it the rot. If its really nice then it could be worth couple grand more. Just have deal on it.
  7. I went out just abit ago and cut all the drivers side junk off. The lower part of the alum.skin itself is oxydized in places that it just crumbles! Not a real good sign.
  8. My trailer is 4x8' and the tongue jack has a roller wheel on it. Makes it much easier on an older wore out man to move. I don't even know its back there.
  9. I have cut off the passenger side alum. skin and bulkhead below the frame and even with the wheelwell. I also got all of the rotted wood out and the wood staples. I came in at 12:30 pm has gotton to hot fer me out there. Mid to high 90's and 80percent humidity!
  10. I own 4 cyl. 4spd. its a 79 named Odd Duck. It has 93,710 miles on it and the same clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing. It doesn't slip or chatter. I see lots of Toy MH on the forums reply they are burning up the auto in the 4 cyl.'s. Using the OD is the culpit! So if you get one try not to use the OD, get a big trans cooler and don't run trans lines to radiator, run to cooler and back to trans! All this happens as the trans gets to hot.
  11. Well now that depends on what rearend you have. If its the 5 lug, its pop off rear drum after tires and wheels have been removed. If its the 6 lug my repair book doesn't cover the 1 ton rearend. This 5 lug drum setup is what my Odyssey has and i don't have to pull my axel shafts.
  12. OK take pic's and post them as you go or when you ge it finished!
  13. Yes all Toy MH over 18' were put on recall, that were made 86 and older. Some folks were just to lazy to take their Toy's back to have new free 6 lug rearends installed! Max wt. depends on length. Mine is 17' 6" bumper to bumper or 17' without them. Mine is allowed 4600 lbs. total, thats all its safe to carry! To make mine safe, i think empty wt. is 3800 lbs. i have to put extra's on a utility trailer and pull behind MH. With my Mrs., her 2 foofoo dogs, a cat, full water tank ,full gas tank and full LP bottle ,,food clothing eating stuff and gen. and gas can for it full. Makes mine several hundred over the wt. limit. Now do i think a 5 lug rearend ( thats) what i have is safe at max load wt! NO! Thats why i put almost everything we need to take on the trailer. Its rated at 1,000, but i don't load it that heavy. About 850 lbs. is most i put on trailer and balance it out with between 75-100 lbs. tongue wt.
  14. Hey go to car-part.com and use toyota truck then wheel assy. 87 duals. They have about a dz. listed from $300-$800. You want an a grade with less than 200,000 miles on it. Lower miles the better, they will bolt right in. I am finishing the repairs i have to do on mine before trying to upgrade the rearend.
  15. I am curious, does your automatic have the OD and do you use it? If you do that may account for the high temps. You might drive it without using the OD.
  16. Sorry to hear you ran out of gas, bummer. Then had water leak in fitting, hope it didn't do any damage. So repair held up during those bad rainy days up in overhead, great! I like to hear trip reports and someday we will get to go again. I am working as my extra chump change will allow. At the rate i am going it will be sept. before it will be ready enough to go. I will look for gas when i get down to the half mark.
  17. Yes thats right cutting all that rotted junk off. I measured at entry door below gas cap. Then drew my cutoff line along side of coach. Its even with level of wheelwells! Have both sides ready to go and start cutting! Between this and removing coolant/hot water heater setup. i should remove about 45-50 lbs. Plus the weight i remove from ladder and luggage rack, maybe i get lucky and lose 65/70 lbs. of unneeded weight.
  18. Well i decided to remove the complete coolant to hot water heater setup. I took the sensor/ copper tubing on top of a/c cond. off . Then took off the 2 valves and hose that ran back to hot water heater. Just figured as old as the Odd Duck is. The hose may spring a leak and i don't have the extra coins to replace or rebuild the eng. Still have to chase down and remove return hose.
  19. I don't have mine (boombox) up load enough to drown out my Mrs. or the compressor. I have 60' air hose and 100' ext. cord heavy enough to handle it. So i put it out yonder so i don't listen to it.
  20. My my how long is it? The front doesn't carry near the weight that the rear tires do. I have 205/75/14's on the front of mine and 195/75/14's on the back duals. Some folks say there isn't enough room to run the 205's on back as duals. I took my duals off and looked, i don't see any problem with that size all around. Your weight is 3000 lbs. more than mine is empty. When you buy tires again get load range D, Cont. or Yoko or Nankang, Cooper. Remember you want LT tires. Light Truck.
  21. Could one of several things going on. Lets start by asking is the Toy fuel injected or carb. Does it have new plugs and plugwires? Usually alt. don't charge much at idle, but for the new battery to be dead/run down. There has to be a drain on it, something is on while key is off. Running rough or in your case not at all. If its EFI the injectors maybe badly clogged. It could be water or trash in tank or line or filter. Need some data please? Moosepucky will able to help trouble shoot also, i am volunteering him!
  22. Well after all the honey do's i didn't get much done this evening. I got all the protruding screws ends cutoff. Put up tools and air compressor, fan and boombox. Yeah i am listening Dwight Yoakum cd, might as well enjoy my music while working.
  23. Hey does it have a 4 cyl. and 4 spd. shower/ toilet ? If you get tired of it let me know. I'll be looking for another Toy next year. I should have the one i have ready to go camping come sept. If mine was worth saving, i would pull coach off of the no frame or supports. I'd put alum. sq. tubing and go from there.
  24. I think if its halfway decent you did fine on the purchase. Stick with the castrol, the tires if newer should hold up if you don't go too heavy in coach.
  25. I reckon that stuff would work. Humidity being 70-90 persent the wood never seems to get dry here. Sure gets hot and muggy! Then again depending on the cost can buy lots of material. Heck i guess my labor is free and i guess i need to piddle with something.
