  1. I can offer some more (limited) information on this model. This was parked at HWY 6 (from Hamilton) and HWY 401 in the little town (Puslinch?) that borders the 401. It was sitting in an unofficial 'lot' across from the gas station/convenience stores. This vehicle had a sink in it, and a table running along the length of the center, rear section. Bench seats (presumably a bed) running each side of the table. There was a small, built-in fridge in the left (?) rear corner. Looking back on it, I should have just wrote a cheque on the spot. But... It was a Sunday evening in late summer, and I just wanted to get home. Being the nice guy that I am, I'll stop in where I saw it and ask for more information (which I'll then post on the forum).
  2. Thank you all for responding to my post; however... Did you read when this was posted? August 2007 The vehicle described in my post was there for maybe 2-weeks after I posted it!!! It's LONG GONE (as most, rare-to-Ontario Toyota motorhomes are)! Sorry, but you have to be a lot quicker in Southern Ontario if you want a jewel like that! For instance... I owned my 1984 Sunrader for a matter of less-than-one-month before I decided to sell it (last spring). It sold in the first 3-days I posted it (on the same website that I bought it from). [that's why I haven't been active on the forum] I once read a post in here that was most fitting. 'Below 65? Need-not-apply!' You need a lot of 'free time' to enjoy one of these creatures... I spent more time maintaining it, fixing it, and with it, than enjoying it! I had every good intention when I purchased it (for about $10,000 CAD), but I found that it sucked up all my (limited) free time. It was in pretty darn-good shape when I bought it, but it still needed as much attention as baby (it seemed). All I wanted was something to enjoy. I didn't realize (my mistake 100%) that I would be constantly on-the-move with this thing! Well, you get my drift... Owning a camper is almost exactly like owning another house! I don't think it was a mistake to buy it, I just didn't bank on all the constant attention to it.
  3. As a former Sunrader owner, I was surprised to see this sitting at the side of the road. If you are interested, let me know... Located in Southern Ontario.
  4. For me, the Sunrader Owner's Manual was not very useful (had an 84'). The repair manuals that you can find on this forum are much more useful, as are other web-based resources. The only manual that came in handy was the Toyota Pickup owner's manual (oil capacity/type, spark plug type, etc...) The appliances should all have fairly decent instructions posted right on them in regards to their operation. good luck!
  5. Thank you! I saw the Wimbeldon White and thought it looked similar. May try that next! Thanks!
  6. Bought some "RV White" for my 84' Sunrader. Eventhough they're both off-white (the RV and the paint), they aren't really that close to the same colour (paint is darker, richer). I'm tempted to buy some white paint and mix the two colours until the result more closely resembles the vehicle. Does anyone have experience with touch-up paint for these vehicles? Is there an off-the-shelf Toyota paint that will work? (I'm sure it'll cost a fortune, being a custom colour and all...) I'd like to refrain from having the vehicle 'scanned', then custom paint made up. Any info would be appreciated!
  7. Knowltondata, Not sure if I'm interested in ripping out the carpeting... I already renovated my last 4 houses, so I just want to enjoy this vehicle without getting into big repairs just yet. I haven't had it on the scales yet, mostly because I only had it for a couple of nights before it went to the Propane Certification. Actually, they called me yesterday and told me something I already knew... The furnace blower won't turn on. It turned on when I first looked at the vehicle (3 times), but the day I bought it, it failed. I'm sure it's something minor like a fuse or wire, but now I'm 'stuck' getting the shop (Propane Cert.) to 'fix' the furnace blower or they'll 'tag' the appliance (more $). All this @ $95/hour. What a deal! Speaking of loathing... I've already spent $500 to get this thing on the road, and I STILL HAVEN'T had the 'opportunity' to purchase insurance! Ugh...
  8. Thank you to all that responded over the past few days! I'm very anxious to get the Toy back home from its propane certification. Shoprat - thanks for the info on the axle! Picklebill - thanks for (more) info on the axle! the year is 1984, and the mileage is 108,000mi Bajadulce - i will enjoy the drinks, that's for sure! I would really love to tour around California with this unit, however I'm almost as far away from CA as you can get... stuck here in Southern Ontario (Canada). We get the same weather as Northern California (plus some snow), but there's no other place that can compare to California... I really love it there! We have an office in Orange County, but there's little to no hope of ever transferring. I also enjoy visiting the San Fran area, but my favourite has to be San Diego... I hope to move there some day... Just need a job and a T1 work visa... Oh, one last thing... No one has been able to tell me how to get the mothball smell out! I'm debating starting a new topic to draw attention to this personal crisis! haha! Thanks again!!!
  9. Here's my new (to me) 18ft SUNRADER (22R rebuilt & new clutch). Just picked it up, had it for 2 days, then off to the propane test today so that I can put better insurance on it. Doesn't have the full-floating in the rear, but I've read/heard that it wasn't really a big deal with the 18ft models. Is this true? If need be, is the recall still valid (in Canada)? Everything is original, and everything works! Very well-kept unit, except for the mothballs they used during storage! Does anyone know how to get the smell of mothballs out? If anyone is looking to purchase, I suggest that you read the forums here; they're invaluable. Also, find out exactly what is required to license the vehicle. I've had one surprise after another in regards to this (even after doing research and making calls), and will have spent close to $500 to get this thing 'legal' (plates, sticker, safety, gas/appliance inspect, appraisal, used car package, taxes, etc...) Don't ask what I paid, it was a lot. But, in all honesty, it was appraised for over $10,000!!! From what I've read, and the research I've done, it is well worth it (the $$$). Since this picture was taken, I've replaced the antenna, the house battery, and I've installed a new, CD/MP3 deck & new speakers, and a wireless back-up camera (a steal @ Wal-Mart for $90). I'm ready to install the new plugs and wires I bought this past weekend, and everything else I've got stashed around the house from the pre-purchase shopping blitz! If anyone has any questions or comments, I'll gladly respond!
