  1. Hi. does anyone know the unladen weight of each model RV and then the weight when full with fresh/waste water and supplies? on many a forum i see this question asked about the Sunrader Chinook Dolphin.. but not much info. Unladen weight Sunrader: 18 foot = 21 foot = Weight when full = Unladen weight Dolphin: Unladen = Full : Unladen Weight Chinook: Unladen= Full=
  2. if u do need parts jerry @ 22RE Performance is super knowledgable. they rebuild only the 22r and 22re motors. he has every OEM part for these and at very good pricing. http://www.22reperformance.com/22RE_Performance_-_Installation_Parts.html
  3. ahh ok. so all the rv's that came with a roof ac also came with a genny from factory?
  4. which year front rims would work on my 86? it would be a plus to upgrade the calipers and rotors as well.
  5. in my opinion anyone who buys an older rv should be prepared to put some smart safe necessary money into it. tires brakes shocks and a tune up should be an absolute must. ur life is worth it
  6. i have taken apart many a 22r and re. they all are gunked with carbon. we can thank ethanol fuel for that. yes valves and timing are easy to check and adjust. a header from LCE does wonders for low end torque. but just know nothing will make it a v6. these tune ups will make it run better and pull a bit harder.
  7. Pull ur throttle body and clean the butterfly and check the spring function of the tps sensor. Replace the tps if necessary and reset the tps sensor. The 22re is notorious for carbon buildup. I would also send out the injectors for sonic cleaning. You want them to spray not drip into the intake. Next is check the egr valve operation and make sure all the vacuum lines are routed correctly and not torn. If the recirc of exhaust gasses aren't correct it will loose substantial power in mid range. If u change the O2 check ur cat to make sure it isn't filled with scale and Rust Last , check ur timing. If it is off even a bit it can make a huge difference in the power delivery. All these suggestions are good to do when you are ready for a full tune up. But the timing is an easy one to check and can make a huge difference.
  8. link doesnt work. i am looking for the specs of the original unit. yes... the idea is to update to modern spec unit
  9. here are pics of my wheels and axle... any comments? https://goo.gl/photos/VYGiysXtyedpWcnHA
  10. opinions are great.. but actual tech info are what make forums truly helpful. unit models , dimensions, specs, links... are there specs to the ac units that came on there rvs online? does anyone have a diagram or link to them ? i have built a swamp cooler for the nevada desert summer heat out of a 5 gallon bucket..it worked very well for 105 degree days. the goal is to not sleep in a pool of sweat but def not sit in the rv all day watching tv. swamp coolers are not very complicated and can cool the hot air by 20 degrees if fabricated correctly. computer fans are great as they draw very little amps and using the fresh water tank to refill the res by adapting a mini bilge pump is a hands free way to cool down a tiny camper like the 18ft sunrader.
  11. yeah i went a bit deeper into the specs. unfortunately it will draw too much for off the grid power. what roof ac units came on the sunrader/dolphins? anyone come across a small ac unit to put into the bench area? lidia.... good question. there was mold and water damage under that bench in the corner next to fridge. the burner and exhaust cylinder were rusted bad. also the fan barrel bearing was shot causing a bad vibration. the fridge and heater are not worth fixing in my opinion. i am trying to figure out a way to put in an ac unit without using the roof or rear bumper or a portable unit inside. i do not need heat as i have no desire to camp in winter. thanks for all the feedback
  12. im not a fan of ac in general and in the woods the roof fan on reverse drafts a nice cool breeze. ..being that i have solar panels i could run the ac for a few days on a full charged battery. plus in the desert sun should be easy to find. i am making a 2 battery compartment under the floor with a hatch and putting an outdoor shower in the old outer battery compartment
  13. the stock unit is located under the bench next to the fridge. my sunrader never had a roof ac installed. ...it is rusted out and not worth fixing i don't camp in winter so ac is more important than heat. the heat strip will do fine on a occasional cold desert night if need be. i have solar panels on the roof and i am building a custom aluminum rack so a roof ac unit is not an option
  14. Has anyone installed one of these ? i am thinking of changing out the rusted out stock heater unit in my 86 18 foot sunrader with this... http://www.dometic.com/USA/MS-9629-Trucking/PG-10094-Air-Conditioning/MD-120866-Self-Contained-HVAC-Systems-for-Truck/SK-120887-BliZZard-Self-Contained-7K-BTUhr-10-kW-heat-strip any comments? possible issues? the load specs look reasonable anyone have dimensions of the original heater?
  15. lidia thanks for the efforts on a quick and detailed responses. its great on forums when members take the time to respond. much appreciated! a-
  16. is this axle recalled? if not - why would toyota put 14" duallys on a 4x4 with 15' fronts if they cant be used off road in 4wd?!! update: i spoke to ray at CCW. he made the original wheels for the sunraders. i just need to figure out what axle i truly have and why the previous owner (s) modified the sway bar and shocks. are there any visuals that can distinguish between a recalled axle and the one best made for the 4x4? i want to use this eventually for real off road adventures
  17. so this axle set up is good or recalled? the spare is a 15 for the front... what rear rims should i replace these with? they look like 14's
  18. is there a front brake upgrade option? no point in putting time and money into rebuilding calipers and recutting rotors if there is a newer year toyota upgrade. i have seen some mention of tundra brakes but still havent found a clear explanation on what will fit on the 86 independent front end on the sunrader.
  19. mine is an 86. it is in storage and i am no where near it to see what rims are on the rear. i think they were 14's. its has a floating rear. did these year 4x4's come with 15's? also the welds on the rims look horrible. like they were stick welded. not very safe for an off road 4x4 in my opinion. here is a pic of a rear i found online... i was hoping to buy the sway bar off of it. i will look into the link. thanks. the plan is to bring this rig back to oem spec and better. motor upgrade with dash ac, suspension with adj air bladders, 15" off road wheels tires. i will post one day all of the repairs and upgraded i have done or will do. the list is getting longer each day.
  20. so you swapped your rears for 15" rims? how has the gearing changed on highway?
  21. hey linda. yes i did pass by a few shops in slc. - small world- i am going to swap a 5VZE 3.4 but not being from there and pressed for time i was searching for the right person that do the conversion correctly and make it look as if it came oem stock. i just might end up doing it myself as i rebuild old motorcycles and have had a few sr5's in my time. my rear axle is a floater but was modified improperly. somewhere along the line the shocks were relocated and a sway bar was added above the axle. however i do see the original lower mounts on the axle to accept a sway bar. i was looking at the older Dynas and the axle looks very similar. the welds are horrible and the placement is suspect when the suspension is in full travel. i believe the rears were 14"rims. 15's all around would be best and help the stock gearing a bit. i might install an arb air locker in rear and run a compressor off of it. this way i can plug and inflate tires instead of roadside changes and at the same time put in 4.88. lots of research for what is best... i am open to suggestions
  22. Hi. I have an 1986 Sunrader 22RE 4x4 and it needs some upgrades and attention. i have been trolling these pages for info on several areas and have read endless posts on all of these subjects, but i am hoping for some direct responses here... 1 is it worth the effort to swap out a 22re with a 5vze? it just can get out of its own way and was sitting for many years. its just not worth rebuilding the 22re 2 the rear sway bar was taken off and re-welded incorrectly.. the install is hack so need to remove it and put it back the way it was from factory. but without a schematic or pic of the original i am a bit lost if the bar itself is even the original. maybe out of an old Dyna? anyone have a good pic of their 4x4 1 ton 6 lug dually axle? 3 . are there any 15" rear rims that can be swapped out for the stock dually 14"s.. i want to make all 6 tires 15's 4 what brake upgrades are there upfront? i heard there is a possible bolt on rotor/caliper swap off a newer 1990's tacoma ? any and all suggestions and comments welcomed. a-
