  1. yes I'm sure that this canvas will only be good for a couple of years. But it's easy enough to so this if you have a machine. I also think thatit's important to choose a combination of tarp and line thickness that will pull through your C channel without much resistance but yet be fat enough not to pull out when there is a lot of wind. I'm sure when the fabric gets wet that it will slightly swell making it more difficult to pull through in case you have to remove it.it must have some play in it or you won't be able to remove it. The C channel that I purchased online and installed on the drivers side of my rig is actually slightly smaller than the factory installed C channel. That means I will not be able to Inter change the two awnings I have for the two sides.
  2. Today I finally installed my new homemade hillbilly bag awning. This forum helped in the design of the unit. I sewed this myself as I have an old sewing machine. It's not pretty but its very sturdy and looks like it will last a while. I sewed a Loop channel on the awning and threaded the roof rope through it. I had to install a couple of small cleats on my rig to secure the ends of the lines. Also I added extra fabric on the corners so that the grommets would not rip out. It's an old 100 percent cotton painters canvas that has paint on one side already. I suppose I should spray it with scotch guard or some kind of wax or something to help keep water from impregnating the fabric. I also sewed 3 sets of ties, one on the top and one on the bottom and it rolls up nice and tight to the side of my rig. I hope it does not fill up with water!for a minimal cash outlay at least I now have shade to complete new projects.
  3. What about the tire pressure monitor and back up cam. Brand, how much and are you happy?
  4. who can blame the guy in North Carolina for asking $15,000 for his rig if he was dumb enough to pay $5000 to Camping World for a roof on a tiny RV. What a dumb shXx. He will probably have to wait till fall to find a sucker to get that kind of money for that rig.
  5. I want to monitor revs. I dont want to spend much. I can get a cheap china tach for under 20 bucks on ebay. I need to know if there's a factory terminal that will tell a tach what the revs are, or do I have to add a sensor? Id think there is a terminal or wire I could tap into. Thanks!
  6. I LOVE that picture. Going to Oaxaca coastline soon!
  7. I had at and t and it sucked everywhere except big cities. Walmart straight talk with VERIZON for best rural coverage. My .02.
  8. There is only a drip rail on the passenger side of my rig- and I want to put an awning and or a roof rack on, and the drip rail would help. Anybody add one? I know it is best if integrated into the roof seam itself; that isn't going to happen this case.
  9. I agree. Went car/kayak camping for a month with my son - the way to go. But there are reasons for the roof in my case.
  10. My Toyota gets too many miles per gallon so I was thinking of putting more wind resistance on the roof in the form of a kayak. Dont want to trailer anything. My 92 Itasca Mini Winnie has an all metal roof...and it is smooth. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  11. Thanks. We have a company here in town that does spring and suspension work as a specialty. Tampa Spring has been doing business for 50 yrs. I'll talk to them and also look at repairing or replacing the air bags i have.
  12. OOPS! Found there is a ton of info on here under electrical section...but looking for the most plug and play option for the winnie!
  13. Great Post. Thanks for the link to the gasket. I did the same thing on an old Sunrader I had, with the lexan / plexiglass. Only downside is that it scratches easily and you will have to forever be carefull about cleaning, but way better than most glass companies. Paper towels will make tiny scratches, use cloth!
  14. My new to me Itaska MiniWinnie has an issue. The 110 volt circuits and distribution works fine, but the supply side is low - putting out only about 11.5 volts. The input voltage is good - 120v. This is not enough to keep the battery topped off, but will keep the lights going. Instead of replacing, I could buy a larger battery charger, and not rip out the old one. It would fit fine under the seat along with the old one. I could put the B+ line to the main output of the old unit, in parallel. A battery charger may cause radio interference, though. Anybody got a good idea or solution? Thanks
  15. Well, I spent the weekend with the new to me MH. The large wires were clearly for a generator, and the storage compartment is big enough for a small genset i guess. It has a non lockable latch, implying that it was for a generator. I found my airbags, and they leaked down quickly. One member said his supply lines were toasted, I would wager the bags are old and brittle. Reading about the pros and cons about air lift vs. air shocks. One thing at a time. I replaced the shower faucet that was removed to create a storage locker in the shower. Pump works, but all three faucets have trickles...wondering if I can replace the stems/ washers, whatever to fix them or have to buy new. I love to save a nickel and keep stuff out of the landfill so i will try to rebuild if feasible. My water heater works great, it is a manual light. Scary! The worst thing I discovered other than the airbags was the power center has an issue. I'm posting it separate to get more responses. Thanks, ALL OF YOU!
  16. Yes, I traced one hot 12v off the house battery to a starting solenoid in the engine compartment, and was wondering what it was for. I could not see how it was a booster for the engine start circuit.
  17. I don't think it ever had a genset. All the exterior compartments are original and look too small. I guess I'll try to get a schematic of the power converter. The battery would connect to the output side of the 12v supply line---then on to the individual 12v fused circuits.
  18. It was empty after all. Gage showed over a quarter tank. Now it shows over full. Thanks all!
  19. so are you kidding? I can't believe that the Minnie Winnie did not have the capability to rely on its own coach batteries. Are you sure? even the overview in the manual said that the Power supply / controller switches from shore power supply to batteries when disconnected automatically. I'm just trying to figure out where to hook it up. Thanks for your insight.
  20. I bought it from a woman who sold it after the previous owners went back to Australia - after touring our continent. They did some strange things to my beloved coach...like plug up the shower and convert it to a closet. maybe they don't bathe down under? I have no way of talking to them, and the seller knows nothing. The coach did come with complete history and docs, but it's not enough. I filled the propane tank, and evidently it was empty though it read over 1/4 tank. All appliances now run on propane except i still don't get a burn in the hot water heater - but that is for another day. 1. The battery box contained a dead die hard. Since the previous owner installed a nice solar panel to charge the battery, I bought a AGM replacement. The battery box has two leads- a fat one and a skinny one. I assume that the skinny one is for the charge controlling circuit- but i don't know that. Do you have a secondary wire on yours, and what is it for? 2. My new AGM battery did nothing. The coach was DOA when i connected it. So I traced the big positive lead, along the frame rearward. Behind the rear tires, it STOPPED. Taped off, and right next to it was a big fat black wire that was grounded. it looks like there was something here, but what???? This lead should go to the main power controller, that switches to the coach battery if you do not have shore power. Right? 3. The old charge controller panel, mounted in the cavity access point behind the fridge, shows power (13 volts) only when the shore power is hooked up. I'm thinking it is useless and I have to rip the crap out and start over. Your thoughts? 4. My coach had docs that looked as though it had air bags. I see none do you? Last pic...
  21. So it has two single axles in series? Looks like it would wear tires out quickly.
