  1. You know, I really like it. Even if the fabric gets wet, it will dry as quickly as any laundry hanging on an outside clothesline. You have me thinking of all the big pieces of fabric/tarp/possible awning fabric I see at garage sales for "almost" free.
  2. Debbit, On the road, is one quieter that the other? Have you been on the roof yet, and does one seem more sturdy? Fred
  3. Many methods... 1) sometimes we stop at St*rbucks - 2) sometimes we roast beans and use a coffee press 3) sometimes we roast beans and use a drip machine for a larger group 4) sometimes we go the Headlands in Fort Bragg CA - best coffee we've had - or other local shops that we are familiar with - preferred over #1 where possible 5) sometimes we heat water and use VIA packets (Columbian) 6) I've been know to use Folger's coffee "teabags" We always use distilled water. I drink enough coffee for 5 people. In the Toyota we usually use #5 for simplicity and lack of mess.
  4. Now that you own both rigs, your impressions/comments/comparisons would be welcome.
  5. Suggest, if you can swing it, buy the SRader at a good price. Play with and OWN them both. Sell the one that you least prefer. Cull the herd. IMO the 84 with dash air/ 4cyl/ 4speedstick is a desirable combo. But so is a good SRader. There's really nothing wrong with a wood frame built RV. You just have to keep it water-tight. Same goes for fiberglass - anywhere there is a penetration you can have a leak. You just have to keep it water-tight. The nice thing about Toy motorhomes, is that the depreciation period is about over. Good examples hold their value pretty much.
  6. Maineah, Thanks - good website. I'm in the process of sellilng my fifth wheel trailer to a friend. I think I'll turn him onto this as a resource.
  7. Would the forum be interested in an upload (pdf) of "The 12 Volt Side of Life"? It is a good primer on RV 12 volt systems (part 1) and then solar and upgrades (part 2). Im uncertain as to what the rules are for uploads. If the administrator were to invite, I'd be happy to email or upload the document. Fred
  8. This is one of those areas where you are about to become an expert.
  9. I agree with Derek. There is a national chain that repairs/replaces windshields. They are contracted by my insurance company - the one with the gnome and the lizard... I called with a cracked windshield, and they came out to where I work - the replacement was $100 and took 1 hour for a corolla. They also vacuumed the car and offered new wiper blades at a good price. I think if it is just chipped, they won't replace, unless it is real bad and cannot be repaired. Just one of my opinions, and I have many. So many that I have to give them away.
  10. You can also get LED lights that easily wire into our 12v system, but be aware that most of the cheaper & less expensive ones are voltage sensitive so that they fail. RVs have voltage fluctuations related to battery charge and charger voltage. What I like about this set up is that it has a battery pack of it's own. My wife will love it.
  11. I like it! Therefore I just now ordered as a gift for someone. Thanks.
  12. Would your insurance company spring for (or help spring for) a windshield replacement? Conditions would have to warrant a replacement, but think about it.
  13. Have not seen an entry by anyone who has actually used it. What type roof do you have?
  14. We use Verizon on an ipad, and have a couple of trac flip phones. plus a Garmin nuvi for navigation.
  15. Just thinking... the seller is most likely "into" machines like this. It would be interesting to have the guy tell about it. I wonder if he has a blog or webpage somewhere.
  16. Something to look at... http://www.hytechsales.com/prod2150.html I'm not associated in any way, just saw a discussion on another forum.
  17. Les Schwab will quote over the phone. They do good work. They also offer free brake inspections.
  18. Very interesting approach and solution. I am interested in your plans. BTW fantastic fans are an excellent product.
  19. Maineah, Is there an adjustment for the gasket whereby you "tighten" it over time? Just wondering. FWIW the PO of my rig paid someone to install the roof ac on mine. It was sealed with black goop of some sort, but no gasket. Jeez. That's the source of the leak that prompted the a/c removal and then while I was at it, I just replaced everything on the roof.
  20. This is just an opinion, and worth maybe what you pay for it... They're both good designs. Not the "same" truck. The 4 cyl climbs mountains just fine. It averages 12.5 to 14 mpg. About the same as the 6 cyl. One is newer. One is cleaner, in better shape, and more suitable to your needs... you'll have to make that call. There is more to this than the year/drive train. Service records and documentation are worth a lot. I traveled 5 hours to see one, and had cash in hand when I got there. The seller didn't bother to disclose that the body seam at the back had separated because of a collision with a traffic post in a parking lot. Waste of time. We left. Bought another a month later. On the other hand, these are not the only choices, or won't be in the long run. Suggest mabe if you ask, and one of the units is local, someone may look at it for you?
