  1. That doesn't look complicated. Take it to a machine shop and have them make another. It shouldn't cost much for just the two side pieces in duplicate.
  2. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good whole house surge protector? I'm looking for the type that plugs into the electrical service post in a campsite. I prefer one that is made in a free world, industrialized country such as the USA, Germany, Canada, etc. I don't do third world lookalikes such as China, India, Russia, etc. I am looking for a dependable, quality product that I can trust to protect me and my Toyohome.
  3. I just bought a new set of Air Lift air bags (ebay) for $225. In addition, I got a compressor set up system for them on Amazon for $171 with a $50 rebate for a new cost of $121. My total cost (uninstalled) is about $346. The onboard compressor tells me what the current pressure is and it can be adjusted on the fly, for varying road conditions, from the cab. Can't wait to get it all installed. After nearly thirty years, those rubber bags must be about worn out. I would hate to have them crap out on me while I am thousands of miles from home. If I were you, I'd replace the air bags first and see how the MH rides and handles before going to re-arced springs, etc. Best of luck!
  4. Try www.freecampsites.net.
  5. My refrigerator pilot keeps going out when travelling down the road. It stays on when parked without any problem. Under these circumstances, I assume that the thermocouple is OK. So, is there a solution to the problem? Relighting is getting to be a pain, not to mention the discovery of a warm refrigerator when I stop. Also, I seem to have the same problem with my water heater. Cold water and hot refrigerator. I would like to reverse the two problems.
  6. If I found a motorhome I liked, I wouldn't let $1000 stop me from buying it. If you have decent credit, it should not be difficult floating a $1000 loan at your local bank or credit union. If your credit is not so good, you can always go to Break Your Knees Finance Company a pay 25% interest for a short term loan. If neither of those options work for you, maybe it's time to put a purchase decision on the back burner until a later day. If your finances are that tight, what resources do you have for travel expenses like food, gas, camping fees, toilet chemicals, repairs, etc.? Also,I have never bought a used vehicle that did not need something immediately. I bought an 87 Dolphin that was in excellent condition. However, both batteries were seven years old. I stopped on the way home and replaced them simply for peace of mind. Seven year old batteries are definitely at the end of their lives. I promise you that you WILL replace or repair something with your new purchase.
  7. First, I want to thank everyone for their suggestions in troubleshooting my problem. This is indeed a great website! I have found that invariably, when I have a problem it turns out to actually not be a problem at all. There were great suggestions here, but no one suggested actually plugging the O2 sensor in! Yep. It was unplugged! Problem solved! Now we'll see if the mileage increases. Thanks again!
  8. I have an erratic and intermittent check engine light on my 22RE (87 Dolphin). O'Reilly's test shows no codes. I have had problems with my taillight sockets and was wondering if there could be any correlation to the CE light problem. Any thoughts/ideas? Could I successfully change out my taillight fixtures with new LED fixtures? I tried LED bulbs in the old sockets but they would not work so I returned to the old style bulbs. Now with the CE light problem, I'm thinking of replacing the whole assembly if there appears to be any connection between the two problems.
  9. Wouldn't it be much easier to learn how your propane (or furnace) system works? Short of that, I would go ahead and use the generator with a small ceramic heater. FWIW: You seem to be avoiding learning about your motorhome systems. They really aren't complicated.
  10. I once had a 66 Mustang with crapped out springs. The PO put air bags on it to compensate and the ride was horrendously harsh. I took it to a spring shop and had the springs re-arced and was told that re-arced springs are literally as good as new and will last just as long before needing re-tempering. There's just no need to take a chance on new springs that could be made in China or 'who knows where'. Those original equipment springs were Toyota quality that was made in Japan. In my book, you cannot get any better than that! For you California dudes, "Re-arc and save the planet"! A dum hick in Mississip.

    Favorite grill

I love my Weber Q but it's a bit bulky for carrying in the Toyohome. It's absolutely the best grill I have ever owned. Yes they are a bit pricey, but you'll probably never need to buy another. The great thing about the Weber is that if you ever need a part, quality parts are always available. I finally had to replace my igniter after three years of outside use. The heat distribution on a Weber is fantastic. I always thought that a grill was just a grill and that there was little difference in how they cooked until I got my Weber.
  12. I was just thinking about ditching my four cylinder and going to one of those big 496CID V8s. I want a bit more power in the mountains. Would I need to change my motor mounts? Would it be difficult to mount up to my Toyotransmission? Suggestions please.
  13. I wonder how a gas station attendant knows so much about the personal affairs of the family who died. It sounds a bit like someone just wanted to feel important with their vast knowledge.
  14. Spray the return spring and linkage under the hood. It worked for me!
  15. Fred, I never thought of it in those terms. Your comments are the best yet! I've been frustrated over the mileage question and keeping this info in mind will get me the best mileage I can get. I keep my Toyohome in tip top tune. Other's comments are great and I agree, a swap sounds like a an expensive and problem prone effort for minimal, if any better results.
  16. Has anyone had any experience with a hybrid water heater? I am looking at two conversions. One is a Hott Shot and the other is a Hybrid Heat by Camco (11673). The Hott Shot is more expensive but only takes about 30 minutes to install. The Camco is about half the price of the Hott Shot but takes about an hour to install. Does anyone have any thoughts on the comparative effectiveness and quality of each unit? Using a combination gas/electric seems like a good idea considering the savings in propane.
  17. Can I borrow it? Just for a few weeks (or months)?
  18. My source (toyota-parts.com) lists the part as available. But if not, try: Shelby and Sons, Inc. They are a salvage yard and they list a used servo and cable for a 91' 4 Runner for $35. (That PN also fits a 91' Toyota truck). Perhaps just the cable alone can be bought. Their number is; 1-800-248-7278. They are located in Frankfort, Il.
  19. Pete, I just did a search with your part number and readily found it. Check out, www.toyota-parts.com. Their internet price is $46.39 and it lists for $60 and change. That cable fits a number of Toyotas. Let me know if you still have problems and I'll look further.

    Bulb Size

I want to replace the range hood bulb in my 87' Dolphin with an LED bulb. I cannot see a number on the wedge shaped incandescent that is in place now. Can someone tell me the correct number for an LED replacement? That original bulb is next to worthless. I'm in the process of changing all my interior bulbs to LEDs.
  21. Thanks John, I was thinking about putting the second battery (inside) under the dinette seat and using some sort of 'sealed' battery. That location would be near the primary (outside) location and would not 'gas off'. I figured it would be easier to tie the two together in that location since they would be fairly close together. FWIW: My outside battery compartment is not vented at all. The factory original access door is solid. Also: I am in the process of changing all my interior coach lights to LEDs. Will that make a significant difference in coach power consumption? If so, I may not need to add another battery. Thanks again.
  22. I have a 1987 Dolphin 800. I would like to install a second coach battery and need suggestions on where to locate it and how to wire it. Pictures would help very much and I know we have a lot of expertise out there in the Toyoworld. Thanks for your help!
  23. Upon completion of a 5000 mile MC trip, and camping in a tent all the way, I bought my toyohome three days later. It sure is nice to eat, sleep and pee anytime you want!
  24. Hmmm. It's 58 degrees here on the coast and the sun is shining. I think I'll wait til springtime to come up and take you up on your offer.
