  1. Thanks! Just wondered, as our last camping trip up to Mt Lemmon involved some pretty rough roads, and I got to thinking about it. Rader did good on those steep grades tho.
  2. Probably the first thing I learned about here was the axle recall and to check for 6 lugs. I haven't seen too much about the front axle though. Is 5 ok there?
  3. Re painted a soft celery green, new vinyl wood look floor and new mini blindside. Really, really like it! Really didn't like the first color. Whew.
  4. We lived in our sunrader for a week. Pretty nice. Liked using the shower, AC worked well, bed comfortable. I was missing a kitchen cabinet door, the one that covers the plastic drawer stack. In my sunrader, there is a short closet where you can store things as well as access the bathroom plumbing. I found that a 3 drawer sterlite plastic drawer stacks fits right in there, so stuck it in there and moved the door to that closet over to the spot I was missing a door. That works well. A few things I'm thinking of though. The space between the kitchen and closet wall is awkward and a tight squeeze. In addition to that, the lower kitchen cabinets are a bit saggy and sort of flaking apart. Because they are, the white fiberglass counter top is bowed and sloped. I'd love to replace the length of the kitchen counter with some new cabinet, maybe a little narrower, a countertop and maybe even one of those sleek cooktops. My oven is the last appliance we need to fix, but not sure I'd use it. I've found the cooktops and some nice looking lightweight countertop material. Just can't find what I'd like for cabinetry. And can't find the energy either! I will repaint tho. The caramel color I thought would look great, doesn't. (I cannot find raging mountain paint color, anywhere!) Carpet is going, and mirror will be installed on bathroom door....
  5. As mentioned, there are lots of things to look out for. You are looking at a vehicle, so you have to be aware of the mechanical condition of the truck. Then the structure of the coach. Check for soft spots and evidence of leaks. Then there are the appliances, water lines and electrical systems. It's tricky!! Common sense is very important, as is an understanding of your skills, abilities and what is important to you. If it looks well cared for, that's good. Manuals and repair records and receipts, also good. I've bought 3, and all had something wrong, usually in the "plumbing" freezing lines are common. Leaking is a close second. Good luck!
  6. I wish! Still very dry. We have had a couple of cloudy days, one cloudburst. No gully washers yet! Have you ever gone camping up Mt. graham?
  7. This is past Pinos Altos, rt 15, turn off at meadow creek. Some roads are closed, due to recent fire area. Road is rough, but slow and careful will get you to some nice spots.
  8. You know what? I think that is perfect, and I believe I'm going to re-paint with it. The upholstery is a blue/grey and the drapes are a silver blue. I really like it, thanks!
  9. Bet it is really nice! I'm not crazy about my new color, but will live with it a while. I like the concept of opening up the space with a color and reflective properties. Thanks!
  10. Gladly! (Humm, sorry they are too big)
  11. When I got my sunrader, I was openly saying how much higher quality it was than the dolphin. Well, I've learned that all dolphins are not equal. The one my dad just got is well built, well designed and very, very nice. It is cozy, and comfortable, elegantly layed out and has a very high-end feel and quality. So...I'm sorry dolphin owners!
  12. Of course! It really is a nice little rig. If we didn't have one, I'd snap it up.
  13. My dad is 89, but sharp and loves camping, fishing and road trips. We both had westfalias, and he sold his because he felt it was too much maintenance. He loved our dolphin and our sunrader and decided he needed one for his next adventure. With a lot of misgivings about his age, I've been trying to help him find one, but not looking too hard. Well, a neighbor just down the road put his dolphin up for sale today and I stopped to look at it. It is immaculate and adorable. It's an 85 rear dinette short model. With a generator. I told him about and he went and saw it, and bought it! Yikes!
  14. I bet that will be beautiful! Do you have the metal supports covered with carpet on your ceiling? My husband hates them, but they don't bother me. We painted our ceiling with a lighter color, and that helps too. What color did you paint your interior?
  15. When we painted our dolphin's interior, I always wondered if I should have. I liked the look and color of the painted cabinetry, but kind of missed the cozy "cabin feel" of the original, fake wood. Well, the sunrader had somewhat better wood in places, but a lot of scuffed and scratched fake wood places too. Plus, with the bathroom/closet and fridge wall, there's no window on that side. Felt too dark, so we painted. I was going for the color of light wood, sort of a blonde oak look. It just looks gold-ish coco color. Ah well, another coat of paint if we can't get used to it. I'd like to update the fiberglass counter and carpet too, but I'll wait on that.
  16. Wanted to report on improvements. Proper air pressure in the airbags did help. All tires were ok, glad to know the higher # is the pressure to go with. Thanks everyone
  17. I had some water damaged paneling in my sun rader too. I covered it with a thick, textured pre-pasted wall paper. I like it!
  18. Home again, very fun trip!
  19. This morning we are leaving to go into some very beautiful, seldom used areas in New Mexico's Gila Wilderness. Beautiful, rough and unimproved. Usually we would take our westfalia on a trip like this, but we want to "not so rough it". Should be fun!
  20. I drool over the equipment they have available in Europe! Some of the campers!! That is a great awning!
  21. we've decided to go with some kind of freestanding shade. We have a nice awning on our westfalia, but seldom use it. Thinking it throughout,we decided that: 1. We set up awning, but we usually have to put it in if it looks like a wind storm will come up. 2. We set up awning, but have to put it in if we want to drive somewhere. 3. We don't set up awning, because it is windy or we won't be there long enough to warrant the trouble. We have used and enjoyed the awning, it is wonderful to have the shade, but being an older style, it can be tricky to take out and put in. Most of the time it is stable in wind and rain, but a fierce wind could cause the awning to flap around. New have a beautiful new paint job on the westy, and I really don't want aluminum legs flailing around. On the sunrader, I'm reluctant to drill holes, and the same reasons mentioned would apply to it. Maybe this post should be in new products, but it is on the same topic, so.... Target has a shelter that is everything I wanted. It is called the Coleman super light shelter. It is fast and easy set up, sturdy and light weight. It did cost more than some I've had, but it's very nice quality, and perfect for our needs! I've put it up and taken it down a few times and I'm really happy with it.
  22. My husband has spent a big part of the day searching for the right oil filter for our rig. I don't know why, but everywhere he went, conflicting info. Even some confusion about ATF, which he is going to drain and fill also. I've searched a lot, read a lot, only adding to the confusion. Big is good, more oil; smaller is good, oil gets there quicker. Sorry to ask, because I know oil, filters and fluids are hotly debated issues. But why is there so much confusion out there over what oil filter to use on a 22re engine in an 86 toyota pickup? He ended up with a K&N hp4004. The ATF is valvoline max life (dex/merc Mercon LV)
  23. I really like how the upper cabinets are molded fiberglass. I wish mine were like that. Nice sun rader!
  24. Who knew? There are a lot of them. Since I am watching a water pump leak, I've left mine out. Our big dog gets on that bench, and I've got to fix thin plywood before sitting down every time we stop. Better fix pump and screw down cover to bench.
