  1. Some years ago I found that "device" and realized it was time to leave the auto industry (slow learner it took 35 years) and get a "clean" job doing electronics work. Well you spilled the beans I now know you are my age!
  2. Try http://www.all-rite.com/ they have lots of trim and window stuff.
  3. I case you did not know all vehicles are equipped with a device called “a critical detector” it senses the urgency of use so a normal trip will not trigger the “detector” however as soon as there is an emergency or an important trip the “detector” will case some thing to fail! Congrats to you daughter good for her!
  4. The pump is leaking at the plastic end? If the plastic is not cracked you can probably get away with a kit actually I think you can order the kit with the plastic parts. OK the heater needs a good flow of air to open the gas valve (electrically) there is a little switch inside that senses air flow so a low battery will not move enough air. Maybe I did not explain what I wanted you to do well enough what I am trying to do is make sure this thing is safe first. When the MH is unplugged form the power source check the prongs on the plug that plugs into the house. Again it is possible that they will have power when the generator is running so hook your meter up first then start the generator. Check the meter in each position of the transfer switch there should NO power in either position. What we are trying to do is make sure the generator is not back feeding the power lines. Here is what I think, the converter is pooched from more voltage then it should have had and that is why they added the charger also it supplies power to your 12 volt stuff when it is plugged in well, that is what is meant to do.
  5. OK has this thing spent its life in Switzerland? It sounds like it is set up to run on 230 volts you might check the charger and see if it has a 230 volt rating that would be a dead give away. Now none of this works when it is plugged in? Can you check the power cord with the generator running be careful if some thing is wrong with the transfer switching the plug maybe hot hook the meter up first then start the generator. Leave the meter connected and switch the transfer switch and see what happens under no circumstances should there be any power at the plug. Is there any way you can find a tag on the converter that might give a voltage rating? As far as the heater it will run and not make heat if the battery voltage is low it will not allow the fan to turn fast enough. (more on that later) The water pump is a standard Shurflo pump you can buy rebuild kits for them. I did not see the relay in your pictures for the batteries usually it's on the inner fender panel left side. I would not buy a charger just yet I think it's working.
  6. Is the differential making noise? There really isn't much in there that will cause a vibration unless it's really trashed. Did they replace all of the u joints?
  7. Sounds like a lot of work and I'll bet you'll miss the convex ones. Napa has the replacements and for a few extra bucks they have or can get them in stainless. They do block a bit of side vision but they do make for a big rear view.
  8. I doubt that you bent any thing the jack stands would be no worse then sitting on it's tires. How ever what you took apart you should do again and see if some thing is not assembled right. .5 cm is not much just about any tire will run out that much. I'll assume there is no noise like a bad bearing? Generally a bad wheel bearing will not cause a vibration it can cause the seal to leak though. As far as different axles I can't tell you the European trucks are a bit different then what we get over here a scrap yard maybe able to tell you. The best possable fix would be the ! ton duel wheel assembly.
  9. Most of the hot water tanks will not complealy drain because the drain is higher then the bottom of the tank and that leaves a good collection of yuck on the bottom of the tank and they will rot at the very bottom. Pretty fine holes too, hard to see even with the tank out. You can buy just the tank but for a few dollars more you can buy the entire heater.
  10. When I return from Canada is when the trouble starts. Last time I crossed into the states they took every thing out of my car and put it on the pavement because they could! Drugs form Mexico are a big deal I feel for the poor guy but it's a drug and it's illegal and the US customs are a pain in the behind now that they are a part of home land security.
  11. Lot of work there! At least you can do it just the way you want you are on your own with every thing keep us posted! Your A/C runs on shore 120 volt power not the converter sorry but hey the A/C does works one less thing to worry about. Have you thought about marine ply wood for the floors? It’s pretty expensive but about as water proof as wood gets.
  12. Swiss power, 230 volts 50 cycles. It's two wire, 230 volts across the neutral not like ours with 120 volts each side. I don't know how well the converter would deal with that much voltage it's a normal 10 to 1 transformer so it would have to deal with 23 volts across the regulator. I think any thing 120 volts with Swiss power with the kind of load the MH would need would require a step down transformer I don't believe the cheap power converters would be able to handle it. So if the generator is back feeding it's bucking 230 volts this could cause unpleasant things like fires. Danny this should be your first step to find out what kind of voltage you have inside your MH. Please be careful if you are not sure what you are doing please ask first. Check your outlets in the camper when it is plugged in the tips of the volt meter will fit in the outlet if it's 230 volts unplug it and let us know.
  13. I don't know some times a salvage title can be a deal breaker. It looks nice you did a good job I think you should be able to get a fair price for it. Salvage titles in many cases apply to even a perfect car/truck that has been stolen and wirtiten off by the insurance Co. then recovered.
  14. I agree there have been some people in there that had a good thought but seems like they never finished it. Mine has the fool proof transfer switch except when I forget to plug it in and every time I do it's raining. One thing that bothers me do you think he maybe back feeding the grid with the generator when he flips the switch? Might explain the change in pitch. That would not be good at all. I wonder how they dealt with the converter/charger and the add on charger, treated the add on as a battery? It would be good to know where the red and black go. If they are both on line at the same time it will surely cook the battery. Sure would be nice if he could find a local to help him out. And there is still the fridge problem looks like it has a igniter system for the gas there must be some extensive interlocks for that plus the igniter it's self. Another thought is this thing in Switzerland? I'm fairly certain Switzerland is 240V
  15. In the pan. Make sure you have a good spot for clearance before you drill.
  16. Hey Greg take a look at the switch picture again there are no neutrals hooked to it. Wonder if it might be a switch for that add on charger? They have used a 14 awg SJ cable to run some thing. You don’t think they are using that toggle switch as a transfer switch do you? Maybe hooked to a SPDT relay?
  17. Wow I would say it's a dead give away with the relays and the wiring just laying behind the fridge I would love a trip to Switzerland though! Trying to figure out what is wrong will be very hard to do from Maine. Maybe you could find some one in a car shop that is clever with automotive wiring it's not overly complex but it looks like a few hands have been in there. A couple of beers and a nice home cooked dinner might help.
  18. Do you have a friend locally that understands wiring? It looks like the converter/charger is an older type with out much regulation it probably will boil the water out of the battery if you leave it plugged in some people have used a timer on their power line and only run the charger an hour or so a day it's a cheap way out. No ideal what the switch is for but #14 sj cable and a 15 amp switch is not heavy enough for a 2800 watt generator you really need to find some one close to home to have a look, that wiring could use some help I'm sure it is a good part of your issues.
  19. Yeah like Greg said the trans should be ready to go as soon as you put it in gear hard lip seals from age. Swapping to a stick is a bit of a pain pedals, clutch cylinders, drive shaft, holes in the floor not for the faint of heart. The RE's are newer and they used them for quite awhile they are out there don't give up.
  20. An "RE" engine is fuel injected unless some one changed the manifold etc. As far as I am concerned the sooner the last carb is in the junk yard the better. As far as I know it is possible to use the FI manifold on an 87 (it should be fuel injected any way) that would be the way to go. If you try to use the carb you'll have problems with the fuel system, wiring and linkage. The trans should not be an issue provided its a 2 wheel drive donor.
  21. All of the 20/22 engines had a bit of valve noise fairly common with them pretty normal they are adjustable but never compleatly quiet. Noise is had to diagnose from away is this at idle or driving?
  22. Sounds like your cooling fan for the converter. They sense temp of the converter/charger electronics and cycles on and off as needed so if you happen to be running lights and it's charging the battery at the same time it will cycle more often. It's normal and the little fan draws such a small amount of power you would never see it on your power bill.
  23. OK now I'll say what I meant (it's a left handed thing) push the lever towards the out side away from the backing plate!
