  1. i guess i went to the wrong wally world, now i'm jealous cause i paid too much. that's where i put mine too.
  2. i went the cheap route. i got the smallest 700 watt from wally world for $48.00. takes 10" plate, have only used for popcorn using a 2000 honda generator, pulls alot more than 700 to start up, made the generator kick off of econo setting and had to rev up each cycle on popcorn setting ). haven't tried but just using it on high and listening would keep it from cycling and creating a bigger draw on AC. i put velcro on the bottom and that holds it in place just fine. take the turntable out or cushion it, likes to bounce going down the road.
  3. hi and welcome to the toyhome world. i have a 1990 dolphin also. mine is v6, yours must be too, to get up the hills without problems. i'm in central CA, close to Turlock. we have only used it once but look forward to using it more next spring and summer. my wife still works so we will be doing short weekend trips for the most part, about 100 miles to yosemite in one direction and 100 miles to the ocean in the other.
  4. Lee McPherron www.thorntonnetsales.com 250 S. Tomahawk Road #284 Apache Junction, AZ 85119 anyone here have an opinion about this ebook? it's only $10 but wondering of it was fun? informative? helpful? maybe Lee is a member here ).
  5. welcome to the site, lots of info here for sure and because it's an "old duck" you will benefit over time. too bad you have to wait until spring to hit the road. what year model is it? looks longer than most, how long? engine and trans? so many different combinations on the road. so amazing that there are so many of these units still on the road, with a little help from their owners. have fun.
  6. as i said earlier, when i topped of the break fluid the break light went off on the dash. i had noticed that when the emergency was pulled it got a very slight bit brighter, didn't notice it at first but did with a closer look while playing with the switch on the emergency break. just took it out on the road and the cruise control now works very well. checked all the controls, resume, cancel etc. holds speed well, set once at 57 and once at 52. just a reminder this was on a 90 Dolphin and the cruise controls are part of the steering wheel. thanks waiter for the help and idea. the entire breaking system is somehow tied to the cruise, more than just canceling the setting. love this site.
  7. good idea to check one out first. the place i bought my 2000 from also rented them. they let me plug my mh into it and turn on what i wanted to work. my combo ran it all on econo mode, very quiet. i have a 5200 btu window air conditioner installed and a 1.6 amp ac frig. i have discovered that a 700 watt microwave while watching tv and the frig running makes the charger rev up to handle it. even if you had to rent one for an hour it would be worth it rather than getting something too small.
  8. i have a 1990 dolphin. would my converter be the newer kind that shouldn't cook the battery? would there be info on the converter that would tell me? wouldn't want to destroy a $100 battery.
  9. i had a tent trailer with a switch labeled "converter-battery". When on converter It ran 12 V items off shore power, when on battery it ran all the 12 V off the battery. Your lights and maybe frig will run on 12V, but not the air or any plug-ins, they are 120 V only. You can check your frig to see if it's a three way, there will be three sources of power on the back end, one propane, one a regular three prong 120 V plug and some additional connection for 12 V, not sure what that would look like, mine was only two way frig. As far as the switch, it was probably added later, maybe not, and probably runs your 12 V in the couch off the engine's battery or alternator. it might be to send charging voltage to the rear battery, but if so it would have to be very large/thick wires, almost as big as battery cables. probably the first guess. can just turn your switch to battery, not converter, and see if it allows you to turn on the lights in the couch. as far as owners manuals for the couch, i have one for 1990 dolphin, doesn't really tell me much. each appliance, including toilet has owners manual so none of those items are covered.
  10. right now on craigslist, gold country, CA. there is a dual axle, new for sale with wheels. Turn Your Late Model 1980's Toyota Pickup into a Dualie with this New Factory Rear-End. This package comes with a lot of parts including shock mounts, U bolts and nuts, brake drums, metal and rubber brake lines, emergency brake cables, brake line mounting hardware, a bag of lug nuts, 4) 6-lug steel wheels, and as I recall it even has brake shoes, but I can't guarantee that. There are also 2 wheel cylinders, but it seems to me there are cylinders already on the backing plates. asking 250.00 that's all. including tires that are "fair". they are in arnold ca. small mountain town. no phone number, just this craigslist email. sale-qsza3-2617058076@craigslist.org PostingID: 2617058076.
  11. the modesto CA craigslist has some low priced toyota mh listed right now if anyone is looking. 1986 listed for parts, no motor, Yosemite Towing 209-357-2836. $300.00 or Best Offer one unit for 3000.00 in gustine ca others under 7000 all 80's four cylinders. just in case anyone here looking )
  12. i topped off the break fluid, only just a smidgin, that's not much, below the min line, the break light went off as it is supposed too. i haven't tried the cruise yet, it's sort of torn down a little fixing the few things from our little outing. still need to do some testing on the heater, but has been too warm here to turn it on. so once i get it it back together i'll be testing it. one thing i lucked out on, the previous owner had changed the propane hose so i can us a vertical tank outside, ie carrying along some extra. love this site.
  13. the link isn't working. i went to your iflyez page and couldn't find anything about the toy. btw, great page, personally have only flown commercial.
  14. thanks all for the added info. been trying to come up with a quicky cover for the battery wire, hadn't thought of the hose piece. will keep a piece in the battery compartment for sure.
  15. we really wanted to do the felton thing, but had family stuff to take care of. hopefully if there is a spring gathering close we will be able to make it happen. with all the members here i expected to see other toyata homes on the road last weekend but didn't see one until i looked at mine after parked ).
  16. never thought about the it receiving a signal that the breaks were being applied. don't know if this is possible, but will check it out, the emergency break light stays on all the time. last owner didn't know why???? before i do anything about the cruise i'll figure out the light. could i have such dumb luck that the light is causing the problem? probably not but i'll give it try. still haven't totally finished the repairs after the first camp trip. i have a taurus that need attention, bad heater core. i know, all taurus' have problems.
  17. thanks to both of you for more info. i'm sure now that i would definitely want to be able to easily disconnect the inverter when not in use. i did think of running the inverter through the breaker box but i would probably forget to flip the right breaker and burn it all down. neither my wife nor insurance agent would be happy with me then. and with the battery i currently have, group 24, it wouldn't run much anyway without big time alternator change to be able to use it going down the road. with the current battery i would only be able to watch one movie, as long as it wasn't some critically acclaimed 3 hour thingie anyway. either one of you have some formula to figuring out how long it would take the on board converter/charger to recharge a totally dead deep cycle battery? thanks again.
  18. not sure if i need and old or new. it's a 1990 dolphin. the cover itself is 4.25 wide, 2 1/8 tall. there are two tabs top and bottom (the long sides). when mounted the bottom is open to the handle. now quite sure how to describe. if it were a box, and turned it open side up, the bottom has no side, the two sides and top have side than slant out from the bottom. hope that makes sense. if the measurements match up i would love to hove it. here's the picture too. wouldn't want it not to be what i can use. thanks for the offer either way, let me know.
  19. wondering if anyone here has had problems and solved then for a 1990 dolphin, V6, Auto, OD with the cruise controls in the steering wheel as apposed to one that sticks out from the steering column. when i turn it on the cruise light on the dash comes on but the set button doesn't set. wondering if there are some things a shade tree can do before spending hundreds at a dealer or repair shop.
  20. we had our maiden voyage oct 7th. just 100 miles away in yosemite. i still don't feel real comfortable driving the rig yet, but i am more so now. really enjoyed keeping it below 60, most of the time only 50 and enjoyed the drive as much as the stay. we ended up on the south side of the park at a small campsite, wawona camp grounds. probably not spelled right. it was full but found a couple of guys willing to share their site, they were from Sylvania so that was fun visiting and sharing. we had a water line fitting break the first night so had no in house water, but just used some coffee pots to bring in what we needed. it was cold at night and after some reading on the board i think our fan motor on the heater hasn't got long. it made some scary noises on start up then was fine. we ran the heater for awhile, helped the cold, but then the carbon monoxide alarm went off so we had a couple of cool nights. after getting home i discovered the window above the exhaust for the heater was cracked open, maybe where the carbon monoxide came from. i'll be doing some testing before the next trip. the unit itself looks very sound, no corrosion etc. we both enjoy our morning liquids so having a rest area where ever we stopped was wonderful we also had an AC plug we planned on using for the tv go bad, had a long enough extension on board to work around that. being new to the rv thingie and generators we ended up running it more than we really should have. no one complained but later found we shouldn't have used it so much, looking into doing a inverter to help with that before the next trip. we had changed out the 2-way frig for a AC and filled the freezer box with frozen freezer bags that worked well. when we ran the generator they refroze and kept everything nice until the next time. figuring out what we should and should take will take time, but confident we will get there. we are looking forward to planning our next short trip for weekend get away. once my wife finishes her nursing school and state testing we'll have more time to do so. we are talking about doing a two week trip next spring/summer through salt lake, yellowstone and seatle. personally i need to do some more short stuff to have the confidence in the rig to head out for that long. i just have to remember that there are repair shops all along the way to keep us going if necessary. as roy and dale said, happy trails.
  21. would i be better off to get an inverter just big enough to run the the tv and dvd? would it use less power in the conversion process? if i only need a 400 watt would there be any advantage in an 800 watt? disadvantage? one thing i read is that the inverter pulls about 10% of it's out put just to work. if that's the case the 400 should work longer on the same battery than the 800 if only using 300 watts. is this true? wacko?
  22. my tank has a small hose like that but it is attached near the filler under the cover and when the tank over fills it comes out there. the only small hose heading down goes to the drain plug. the hose for the overflow comes out of the tank near the filler hose on the tank. one think i'm learning is that every manufacturer of toymh did their own thing when it came to building these units. it was if the engineers at each company wanted to reinvent the wheel. the same thinking that put the shade tree mechanic out of business.
  23. you are right, i don't have a 600 lb battery , it's a group 24. i'll run a separate plug off the inverter to only run the tv and dvd, they don't pull much. i was hoping to run the AC frig too, but wouldn't be practical unless i went much bigger and changed the alternator and other goodies to make that work going down the road without killing the batteries or frying the alternator. i'll have to double check the the watts/amps on the tv and dvd and that will give me an idea how long i can use those before cranking up the generator. if it's a few hours that would be worth the bucks to me. i guess 750 AH was wishful thinking. if i connect the inverter to the battery with the exiting connections still on, would it cause problems because it is hooked to the converter an other 12 volt items? my brain says no because the inverter only accepts the 12V to operate, but i'm more familiar with AC than DC, they are the same but different can you tell, i just discovered the cutie guys.
  24. i think the first call would be to the tow company, why i pay towing, next to where i'm to be if anywhere and chance the arrival time ). just hope i never have to face that problem.
