  1. You can hook the E terminal to the positive side of the coil like I did mine. That will give you power to the E terminal once the key is turned on. No splicing, just make a wire with 2 circle ends and you will be good to go.
  2. Hi all!! I have been going over my Toyhome and I have go to the Genset. I have a good battery connected to the Genset, and I hear clicking at the solenoid. Other than that....Nothing. Is there anyway a guy can turn the generator over by hand, and not take it out completely? The muffler on mine is welded, and looks like it may be a real pain to get it off so I can remove the rest. I was thinking if I can get it to turn, I could at least get it started. I have no idea when the things was run last. I did a search, but did not see anything covering this type thing. Thanks in advance!!
  3. Homer, Thanks!! I didn't know that about the gas level. I will get some more gas in it soon.
  4. Thanks for the replies!! I will give it a go tomorrow.
  5. I just replaced mine 1985. It was $137.00, and $12.00 for the small strainer/filter, should be close to the price for yours. Check the wires on the fuel pump bracket for continuity, the positive wire on mine was bad! I would also check the pump while it is out of the tank to ensure the wiring on your rig is good all the way back to the pump. When you pull the tank, it needs to be moved towards the driveshaft, and then it will rotate down and out. Re-install in reverse.
  6. I went through the coach battery and charging system today. I have everything going fine. It took a new isolator, and a coach battery, and battery bracket. The isolator I bought is the 4 pole, the old one was a 3 pole. I had to run a exciter wire from the positive side of the coil, and everything is now charging fine. Tomorrow is the appliance checkout day. I am making the most of my time off for Holiday vacation!!
  7. Anyone know how heavy a guy can be and still go on the roof of a Sunrader? I am 250#, and want to get a good clean up there, and check the AC unit. Thanks.
  8. Took it for my first ride. Thing drives like a Tank!!! LOL Put more gas in it (Gauge works), going to run some injection cleaner through since it has been sitting awhile. It has a bit of a high idle, my guess is 950-1000 RPM, need to see why that is happening. I also stopped and had a couple gallons of LP put in it. Not sure if it leaks gas inside, but I am sure once I turn on the gas I will know, and if I am not sure, I will just light up a smoke ;-) Hehehehehe I am working on getting a house battery put in, so I can see if the Genset fires up to. Things are moving alone nicely!
  9. Got it running!!!! ;-) I only had to remove the gas tank 2 times LOL Turns out that it was not the pump, it was the positive wire on the fuel pump bracket inside the tank. I got out about a pound of rust from inside the tank, and since I had bought a new pump, and pump filter I went ahead and used the new one. May be over kill, but at least I will know what was fixed and when. Now on to more fun stuff like getting some propane, and seeing if the heater, water heater and stove works. I am going to see if my fridge works on propane. I tried on electric, and it didn't do a thing. I looked for where it pugs in, but cannot find where the end of the cord goes, oh well, something else to do ;-) I am sure I will have another 100 questions, so be prepared LOL
  10. One other thing. I noticed it has some air shocks on it.
  11. My Bro-in-Law helped me run a 30 Amp RV outlet to the side of my house today, he is an electrician and stayed with me free for 3 months, so I think the work was fair...LOL Here is my first evaluation of inside items. All but 1 set of lights work, the one above the couch probably need bulbs. The rooftop AC turns on and blows good, not sure how well it cools because the temp here was in the mid 50s when I turned it on. The heater blower blows, no LP gas in the bottles to check to see if it lights. The fridge does not seem to be working. I set it to 120v and left it for awhile, and no coolling what so ever. Never had one of these but I did find a manual on the fridge I have, so I will go over that. The manual mentions a circuit breaker...any idea where that may be? The water pump works..what I thought was the water pump turns out to be a filtering system, I also found some spare filters in one of the cabinets! The wiring for the coach battery is not hooked up and taped together, not sure where any of the wires go, so if anyone could possibly put up a pic, or a decent diagram I would really appreciate it ;-) I did not get a chance to see if the fuel pump is why the gas is not getting to the engine, was late after getting the electrical run. I am going to look at that tomorrow. Well, that's all for today. Thanks again for all of the help you have all provided so far!!
  12. Yes, I had to have it flat-bedded home. No sign of fuel making it to the rail. The manual I got has already helped me a lot to figure out the system, so hopingfully it will be running soon!
  13. Ok, I got it home!!! First thing of course was getting out the pressure washer and getting how ever many years of grime off the outside. The cleaning is no where near complete, but I hate to work on things that are dirty. I am getting the engine battery charged real good, and will begin to work out the fuel issue tomorrow. Here are some pics with it finally in my driveway!!! The on/close valve for the LP gas does not want to turn, add that to the list!!! Overall I think this will be a fun project. My wife didn't faint when she went out to look at it...LOL
  14. Just picked up a Service Manual off of ebay, the kind you download, so I should have what I need handy.
  15. Well, $1375.00 if you count the tow. Greg, it is a 1985, not 87....LOL , just picking on ya! I will get some pics up tomorrow after I get it home. Thanks for all of the replies on this.
  16. Ok, here goes. I went over there this morning to go over the things I read. I did the bypass trick this supposed to make the fuel pump work, and that did not work. I pulled the fuel line from where it comes off of the pump, turned the key, and no fuel came out. It may still be some kind of wiring not letting it work. I looked over a bunch of places looking for unhooked wires, checked all the fuses, except for the one Greg just mentioned, not sure where that is located. The thing will start with starter fluid, just not stay running as I previuosely mentioned. I called a tow place and they want $175.00 to bring it to my house. I sat and thought about it for awhile and decided that I was Not going to buy it. I went inside to tell the nice lady that I was going to pass, she asked if she came down on the price if it would help. I asked how much she wanted now, and she told me $1200.00. She said that would help me with buying the parts, and getting it towed...she then told me she really just wanted it out of her driveway! Well for $1200.00, I really could not turn it down, so I told her yes. The tow man is going to bring it home for me tomorrow afternoon. Now for sure let the fun begin!!!
  17. I have done some reading this morning over coffee about the Fuel Injection circuit, found some wiring diagrams, and a few tips on how to check the system out. I am going back this morning to check out the things I have found. I may just spring to have the thing put on a truck and brought home. I have all my tools here which would make things a lot easier, plus probably save me $150.00 If I can get it running, that would be best, just have to trust it to go 15 miles, with over half being on city freeways and bridges, I would hate to break down on one of them....LOL The engine and related things do not seem very difficult to work on, just have to figure out what everything is, and does. Most of my experience has been with US cars and trucks over the years. All have the same principles Air-Fuel-Spark, that was the first thing my Father taught me about working on engines! Well, I am hoping to report today that I got it running, and it is at my house, if not I may be reporting it was put on a truck and brought here...LOL
  18. I could not find anyone to go with me to bring it home today. I did go out and look it over and noticed that there is a bit of water intrusion from the window by the couch That appears to be the only place I can find any. It does not look like that hard of a fix, but then again who knows. I also wanted to run the engine while I was there and check for any over heating, leaks and that sort of thing. The motor is Not getting gas to it. It will run with a bit of starter fluid sprayed in the intake hose, but stops once that is gone. May be as simple as a clogged filter however, I did not hear the pump going when I turned on the key! I got a late start, and asked if I could come back in the morning, and the lady said that would be fine. I am a bit disappointed that it would not stay running. The hose leading to the gas tank from the fill is rotted, and gas leaks from it. Easy replacement, but still one more thing. I will see if I can rotate the hose 180, so it will at least not drip. I also noticed that the wiring going back to the house battery (no battery) is not in place correctly. The isolator has been taken out of the loop. This Sunrader over all is the best I have seen as far as the class C's I have looked at for a decent price, and really has potential, just need to go through my mind if it is now worth 2G. I am very mechanically inclined, so fixing it is not an issue, wanting to is. Lots of think to do tonight!!!
  19. Thanks for all of the positive respones!! I am hoping to go pick it up this afternoon ;-)
  20. Well, I went ahead and told the lady I would buy it. She is a real sweet gal, and when I told her I could come by and pay for it today, and pick up this weekend. She told me she didn't want me to make 2 trips, and that she would tell the man who was going to look at it tonight, that it was sold!! I have my Father, and Brother coming for a visit in Janurary, and I only have 1 spare room, my Brother will stay in the Toy. I was going to pay $250.00 to rent a trailer from our base MWR, but that would have been a waste, in my mind at least. I forgot to mention in my first post that it has a Genset as well, not sure if it works, but will be fun seeing if it does! Let my fun begin....LOL I will keep posting here and let you know what I find. I am a big forum guy...love to use them and add when I can. Forums are always a great way to learn and pass on things learned. Here are a few pics:
  21. Not sure I could do that. They have another person coming to look today, so I may just buy it, and take my chances. I don't think $1995 is to much, no water damage that I can see. If it does not work out, I may be able to recoop my money in a few months if I need to. Thanks for the response.
  22. Hello all! I am new to this forum, and looking to become a long time member if I purchase a 1985 Toyota Sunrader. I am looking at buying this Sunrader, the seller is asking $1995.00 for it, but they cannot tell me if everything works. They are an older couple who were going to use it for some weekend camping not far from home until the Husband suffered a medium stroke. They cannot tell me if any of the appliances, of plumbing works. It has had all 7 tires replaced with Yokohama radials D rated. It has the 6 lug axle. The motor is the 22lr...it runs. Has the manual transmission in it. Overall, the camper, and cab portion look real good for the age of the vehicle. It needs a thourough pressure washing, but definitely not a lived in look. Title is free and clear. I am trying to stay away from a money pit. What is your opinion of this deal? Thanks in advance!!!
