  1. I think this is the best price I've seen for a new tank. http://www.propanetankstore.com/shop/20-lb-5-gallon-horizontal-tank-cylinder-with-gauge/ John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  2. It looks like a standard 20lb tank. Doesn't it have a Amerigas label on it? as long as its up to code with overfill protection vale, they should fill it. But don't use it laying on its side. that tank needs to be vertical. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  3. WARNING - DO NOT USE THAT TANK. Your LP tank appears to be a regular ole BBQ tank. That tank is meant to be used in the Vertical position. You run a risk of liquid propane getting thru the regulators and into the low pressure side. when that happens, you will have a flame thrower next time you turn on the stove, oven, frig, water heater, of furnace. If your going to mount the and use the tank sideways, then get a Horizontal tank. http://www.propanetankstore.com/shop/20-lb-5-gallon-horizontal-tank-cylinder-with-gauge/ John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  4. where is it located?? what is that thing with the straps. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  5. I carry two bikes on the spare tire. As for extra gas. I always carry a 2 1/2 gallon can in the genny compartment (I don't have a genny) On our Alaska trip, I Also carried 2 five gallon cans in the genny compartment, Fairbanks to Prudhoe bay is 500 miles with one gas station about 1/2 way in Coldfoot. I'm very interested in your Mexico trip, as I'd like to do that. If your able, set up a blog and write about it. Here is a very simple blog we kept on our Alaska trip. http://iflyez.com/alaska/ John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  6. The current draw from your list looks correct. I might say that you can reduce the lighting significantly by converting to LEDs. Use your frig on propane, its a lot more efficient than elect. Also, the furnace is very inefficient user of propane. You might consider a ventless heater. Something like a WAVE3 or 6, or a Mr Buddy. These three items will significantly reduce your electric use. 7. Whats the circumference of the 185 vs the 195? (Hankook) I have 185s on mine, and the speedo reads about 10% high. i.e. it reads 60 and I'm doing 55. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  8. ALSO - 3 things. 1) See if they allow you to turn it on and off. We do this with Allstate, no sense in paying for insurance when its sitting in the drive. A quick phone call, and its turned back on again. 2) Check on towing, how far, where to. Is there a mileage limit, may or may not be important, I needed at least 500 miles when I took trip to Alaska.. AND, also where do they tow to. Again, may not be important to you, but I want it towed to my house if practical, not a repair place. 3) What do they do with Comprehensive, i.e. stated value, as in write you a check, or do they replace with like / similar vehicle. 9. Do you have a solid state isolator? JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  10. Isolator, No, not yet. I'm still vary confused by the symptoms/ Do what I said about checking coach lights 1) No Shore power, no truck running, coach battery connected. Do coach lights work? 2) No Shore Power, truck running, coach battery disconnected, Do coach lights work 3) Shore power, no truck running, coach battery disconnected, Do coach lights work? John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  11. If the lights are working without shore power or the truck running, this tells me your getting good connectivity thru the battery, converter, and lights.I cannot explain how you could be reading the low voltages that your seeing. The fact that the lights are working says the voltage is probably OK. If you disconnect the battery, and the lights are working with shore power, this tells me the converter is working. If you disconnect the battery, then start the truck (disconnect shore power) if the lights work, this tells me you have good connectivity from the truck charging system to the converter (thru the isolator) John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  12. I also like Streets and Maps. I have a Bluetooth GPS receiver stuck up in the Frig roof cover that connects to my laptop. Of course you don't need an actual GPS receiver to use Streets and maps. I use it often just to plan out a trip, get an idea of stop points, etc. This file looks like it will add a lot of data points to the program, good find. I looked briefly at the file you mentioned, I'll have to give it a try, sounds interesting. CLICK HERE for the web site to download the POI megafile. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  13. WAIT - If the coach lights are working when your not plugged into shore power and the truck isn't running, it sounds like everything is working. Coach lights, Stove hood light and fan, and the furnace, should all work, with no shore power and no truck running. If this is true, whats the problem again?? John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  14. Hook the coach battery back up, Plug in Shore power. Turn on your coach lights, do they work with the coach battery connected and shore power connected? Now unplug shore power, The coach lights should still be lit, running off the coach battery? Sounds like there is a wiring problem from the converter to the coach battery. 15. Your coach battery should charge from the truck when its running, or from shore power when plugged in. Reading across the batteries when the truck is running, you should get around 14 volts at both batteries. The fact that your reading 7 volts at the coach battery on both shore power and truck running seems to make me think you have a broken wire or faulty self resetting breaker somewhere in the battery line. Its also possible your battery could have shorted cells. Is this a new coach battery? One test you might do, disconnect the coach battery, and check th evoltage on the battery, and on the wire you just removed from the battery. ALSO - Do the coach lights work when on shore power with the battery disconnected. What happens to them when you connect the battery. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  16. I don't think airbags are going to help with bouncing. That sounds like shocks. Air bags will help with level control to make up for week springs on our over gross Toyhouses. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  17. Correct, The sail switch detects that the blower is running to supply combustion air, and has performed a fresh air purge of the combustion chamber. This prevent the accumulation of propane or unburnt gases that could result in an explosion if they are not purged. It OK to bypass the sail switch for testing, but I would NEVER, bypass it for normal operation. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  18. I did exactly what Karin suggested. I replaced the blower (expensive) and I also use a Mr Buddy. Look on e-bay and also Google the part number, I believe the problem was an original design, they used a poor quality oi-lite bearing, and it just doesn't hold up. I believe JD had some luck re-oiling his Probably if you have access to a machine shop you could install remote grease fittings on the bearings, or replace the bearings with better quality. I believe there was also so thought about seeing if he could locate a suitable motor that would work, for about 1/3 the price. No new word on this. Anyway, here is a link to where I replaced my blower. http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3520 As for the Mr Buddy. I've used it last winter and am happy with the results. Keep in mind it dumps a lot of moisture into the room, you also need to keep a vent open for exhaust and fresh air. Here is a link to how I modified the Mr Buddy to allow it to use the house low pressure propane. WARNING - Do this mod at your risk. If your nott comfortable creating a propane bomb inside your motor home, then don't do this. http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4328 John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  19. The rubber piece isn't there seal (I'll get a photo of it) its there as a keeper to hold the glass in the frame. Unfortunantly, on the front and rear windows, there are no drain holes, so if water gets trapped behind that rubber keeper, it can find it way into the inside. I recommend two things or the front and rear windows. 1) From the outside, drill drain holes in the corners. 2) If you ever remove that rubber keeper, re-install it so the seam (the edges) are on the bottom. this will allow water to drain thru the seam. Obviously this only applies to the type of window I have. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  20. The windows I have can be replaced very easily, just [pull off the rubber keeper, and the glass will fall out. However, finding the correct glass may be a problem. I suspect if I ever had to do this, I would simply find a piece of lexan or plexiglass and cut it to fit in the frame. ( I did this with the front window) You can caulk around the window, that's what they did originally, you can see this if you look carefully at the first photo. The combination between the caulk and the foam worked for many years. The caulking on mine looked very good, so where in the heck was the water coming in at near the top. had to be a slight separation tht would allow water to seep thru With the sealing method I used, I replaced the foam with the adhesive sealant, so it does double duty, its squished in between the frame and the wall, and it also is caulked around the edges. As for butyl tape, yes, that will work also, but if you have a corrugated style side instead of a flat side, you'll probably need to double up the tape in the corrugated depressions areas. As for making it look professional. I use the blue tape, then the final step is to wet a paper towel and gently (no pressure) wipe the edges. You can;t tell the difference between my seams and the factory seams. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  21. Your new lights probably rely on whatever your mounting them to complete the circuit. Connect to either wire (I'm guessing the white wire, as I recall hot and neutral wire colors are backwards for DC), then use a small jumper to touch the base of the light to a good metal on the truck. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  22. 4 banger will make it just about anywhere you want to go, it just won't do it very fast. :-) Your really pressing your luck towing anything, particular when you talk about uphill. Look around, a late 80's model won't set you back that much more than an early 80s. Plus you know you have the 1 ton floating axle and EFI. Just do a good pre-purchase and look for the usual problems. John Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
  23. Your 88 should have a relatively newer power distribution and converter, so hopefully, you lucked out and it popped the circuit breaker in the power panel. All your lights, the stove hood, the furnace, should all be running on 12 volts. JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto
