  1. Here on the Oregon coast, fleas are a scourge. People use bark dust for landscaping and fleas love it. Despite the fact that my cats are indoor only, I would have to wash them and the carpet monthly. I'm sure that I have DNA damage from all the chemicals that I used.

What got rid of them for good was when I installed a dehumidifier. Fleas can't breed or survive in low humidity, at least the ones here in Oregon. I haven't found a single flea in the house since I keep the dehumidifier on. I left it on in the motor home for a week.

  2. I just ditched my satellite service. I realized I was paying $1,000 a year to watch six channels. I now use the internet to watch what I want on demand. try www.clicker.com The ones I can't get for free can be purchased unless I'm willing to wait. I also watch streaming Netflix. I have DSL at both my places and take the laptop in my MH. If there's no WIFI, I watch a DVD on it.

Verizon will be coming out with real wireless 4G service later this year. It will have 9MB download speed. I may ditch my DSL for it and then I can use wireless in a lot of places. There's a lot more to watch on the net than satellite, cable or regular over the air.

  3. I need a reality check. Starting about eight years ago, I noticed that the fan, generator, etc belts in my Toyhomes needed excessively frequent adjustments. Now that I have the six cylinder, I have the same belt stretching problem. My other vehicle is an Astro which has a serpentine belt with a spring tensioned idler which is self adjusting. Are they making the belts less durable?

  4. In a fit of temporary insanity, I purchased a German Shepherd puppy. I forgot about house breaking. chewing and barking. The good news is that he's a definite babe magnet. Women stop traffic to look at him. Wherever I go, people want to pet him and take pictures with him.

His name is Fritz Von Doggy.

Oh, he discovered the roll of toilet paper in the motor home and tp'd the place.

  5. The 12v element is meant only to maintain the fridge after it is running steady on gas or 110v. It was never meant to start the fridge. The chemical process keeps running for a good while after the fridge is turned off so you can keep it off for a while.I leave it off for a eight hour trip without a problem.

A gallon of propane is 91,600 Btu's of energy. The fridge uses about 1,000 Btu's/hour at full on. However, it usually is in pilot mode most of the time. If the coils are well vented or you install a small computer fan to vent them, it will sip even less propane. One thing to do to also help is to park so that the sun shines on the other side of the motor home to keep the fridge even cooler.

  6. I seem to date women with dogs and then I miss the dogs when we part ways. So I went out and bought this monster. His name is Fritz Von Doggy and he is a six week old German Shepherd. I forgot what housebreaking a puppy is like!

I welcome suggestions on how to keep the MH from smelling like wet dog.

  7. That reminds me of when I took two ultra liberal peacenik friends with me prospecting in central Oregon. They asked if I would take my 460 S&W with me. LOL

The NRA has a list of state laws regarding carrying firearms when traveling in an RV.

The bear spray is actually a good idea. I was camping in the southern Oregon wilderness and bears would attack the host cabin. There's a lot more cougars out there now also. None of them will come around if there are Sasquatches in the area. Don't mind the city mice. They don't know what it's like in real wilderness. It's not KOA!

One other item to consider is one of the aerosol can boat horns. They are painfully loud.

  8. Looks like winter is over in deed, we have been pruning the fruit trees. A get together on the Oregon coast would be great. Just got home from a week get away , drove to Eugene-Corvalis-then coast road to Bandon to home, Grants pass. Went past you and didn't even know it. I'm all for a get-together in Brookings or ?

The coast is the best bet until April when the valley warms up. They finally finished repairing my Florence place from the freezing water damage so I'm ready to roll again. The only time I'm occupied are the first two weeks in March. I'll be camped out in Eugene then doing my civic duty.

I go by Grants Pass on the way to see my friends in Shady Cove. Isn't Grants Pass supposed to be Sasquatch central in Oregon? That would be interesting.

There's a picture of Ole Thumper at Loeb Sate park in Brookings.

  9. One thing I do is install a shut off valve at the commode. That way you can still use the water system when the crapper craps out on the road. You can still flush by pouring water in it. It's so darn hard geeting at the fittings in those close quarters. I also keep a basin wrench in my on board tool kit.

  10. I don't know if contacting a supplier in Portland OR means that you live in the area but have you tried Northwest Off Road

    http://www.northwestoffroad.com/ ?

www.yotatech.com has also been a good resource.

I met someone passing through here with a Toyhome that had the 3.4 liter installed. He said that his gas mileage dropped to 12MPG but it was substantially faster on the highway.

  11. Looks like winter is over early here on the coast of Orygone. Just waiting for the rain to stop. I may get a trip together soon for Loeb State Park on the Chetco River near Brookings. They're open year round. We had a great time there last summer. I met two Toyhomers there. That would be close for you Cal people.

  12. What is the deadline?

I hope it is finished before my son inherits my Toyhome in my will.

It's taking so long that I feel that I'm back working for the government.

I've been slack in getting it together. My plate is so darned full. I'll try and review the entries soon. I wish people would make submittals as decent JPGs. We have some good talent out there.

  13. You can find the LEDs to fit the interior sockets. Be carefull!!! I know they say they last for a jillion hours. The cheap ones don't last long. Usually these are multiple LEDs in a socket. The light output is terrible. I'm talking from personal experience. They failed quickly and the output was dim. I bought mine from superbrightleds.com Never again, they were junk.

Another thing to consider is the color output. Some of them have a very unnatural color.

Generally the one and three what jobs are usually better quality.

  14. 3. When it's plugged in and running on 110, is the jacket around the column warm? Have you also tried it on gas? Make sure it's level.

    5. Southern Oregon coast, valley or further inland? If you're in the Medford area, the Toyota Dealer there is very, very expensive. I'll find you someone if you're in the Medford area.

  15. There is some good boondocking just west of Sisters Or. & a great harvest festival in sisters in early Oct.

I love Sisters. On the way back from prospecting we camped at a free state camp ground called Lost Lake near there.

Set something up. If you wait too long, winter comes very abruptly there. Maybe I could even get to see Lindy Gravelle perform in Bend or Sisters.

I think the festival is October 10 &11
