  1. Thank you Waiter and 90toy. I will try it this weekend.
  2. Thanks in advance for any responses. We have a 1983 Dolphin and the coach lights won't come on. In addition, the outside light by the door won't work either. They all mysteriously stopped working one day. I changed the fuse in the line running from the battery but that didn't help. The outlets work fine and have power. Any suggestions? Could it be a breaker or other fuse?
  3. does anyone travel with more than one other person? Since there are only seats in the cab... what do you do about seatbelts for the others? I asked my friend about whether she used a seatbelt with her two kids and she said that she didn't and that it wasn't required by law. She said that she figured that if she got in an accident, that it probably wouldn't be felt much in the motorhome. But then again, she has a huge $300K motorhome. Does anyone travel with kids in the motorhome. My husband and I were discussing and said that we probably needed to take 2 vehicles... he drives one car with the kids and I drive the motorhome.... is this our only real option?... this somewhat defeats the purpose of a motorhome and is kind of a pain, but I don't know what else to do... We have a Dolphin 500 with no forward/rear facing seats in the motorhome. What is safe and what are the California law requirements?
  4. I am looking to have a rooftop A/C installed... i would like to add a unit that will cool my 20' Dolphin really well but will also work with a Honda 2000 generator? Any advice? Also, any suggestions as to where I should have it installed? Thanks
  5. Nice, in theory... however, we have 3 babies under two (22 month old twins and an 8 month month old new baby)... and that doesn't leave much time to take on a sewing hobby. I would rather live with the old curtains... I would rather live with no curtains... than spend my very few precious free minutes sewing. But, if I had the time, that would be something to consider, especially since I already own a sewing machine. However, I don't actually know how to use it.
  6. Thank you for the pictures. Now I can tell a new tank from an old tank. How can you tell a vertical tank from a horizontal tank? How much does a 30 pound horizontal tank normally cost? Where can I get one? I am looking at the tanks in the Camping World catalog and it doesn't specify vertical or horizontal. Also, why are the older horizontal tanks exempt from having an OPD valve when the new horizontal tanks come with an OPD valve? Also, nibs says that OPD valves are not meant for horizontal tanks but motoyhomme's new horizontal tank came with an OPD valve (I think... if I am reading this correctly), so now I am confused.
  7. Ok, I am a little confused as to what we actually have. I looked at the propane tank inside the compartment in the Motorhome. The propane tank was laying on its side horizontally with the hookup on the far left side of the tank. We went to Camping world and I saw a tank that looked similiar (although I did not look too closely) and about the right size... it was a 30 pound propane tank for approx. $70. We didn't buy it as I wanted to make sure I actually needed it. Here is my question... Is there actually such a thing as a 30 lb. horizontal tank distinct from a 30 lb. vertical tank OR is a horizontal tank the same tank... just that the tank happens to be lying horizontally in order to fit in the Motorhome compartment? Does this make sense? Thanks.
  8. Our parents just gave us their older Toyota Motorhome and we need some advice. It is a 1983 Dolphin 500. What should we do to check the water/plumbing/shower/sink/toilet to make sure everything is okay? How do we sanitize the water tanks etc.? What are the rules regarding propane tanks? Do we have to replace it... I believe it is the original. Any ideas for fitted sheets for the cabover... Queen is too big and Full is too small. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  9. My parents just gave us their Motorhome too. It is a 1983 Dolphin that we used to go camping in when I was a kid. We have three little ones and can't wait to take them out camping. We just took ours in to have the plumbing looked at. Anyways, we couldn't find the any keys for the compartments, so we just went to the local RV store and purchased new locks (they were all the same key) and they were very easy to install, except for the smallest compartment. The latch on that was slightly smaller than the rest, so our neighbor filed it down for us so it would work. For the porch light, we just replaced the entire unit with one we purchased at the local RV store (I think they are standard size). We didn't try to replace the cover on the old one because we didn't think we would find one that would fit... plus, it was kind of yellowed anyways. the light unit was approx. $35. We haven't tried the furnace yet. We replaced both batteries, the fuel filter, fuel pump, windshield wipers, and had the carburator rebuilt because my Dad put old gasoline in it. There was also some rust in the hose coming out of the gas tank and a bad filler hose. We also did an oil change, new tires, and had the radiator fluid flushed. It runs good now. Our exterior door lock doesn't work... how did you fix that? We also are replacing the old rusty screws that are all over the Motorhome... it really makes a difference and it is very inexpensive and can be done in little time. I don't know what kind of wood you have, but we have the darker wood and it was in great condition, but there was some areas with scratches and dried looking wood. I bought some Old English scratch cover and it made the wood look new... none of the scratches can be seen anymore.
  10. We priced curtains at Camping World and it would be in excess of $800 for all of the windows (not including privacy curtains). The old curtains are starting to look a lot better to me now.
  11. Thanks Dianne. Camping world is a little costly. I still need to search the Interior Decorating link further and will definitely add it as a favorite. I think our best bet will be a local seamstress.
  12. Hello everyone! My in-laws recently gave us a fairly pristine 1983 Toyota Dolphin. It only has 19K miles and runs awesome. By chance does anyone have any suggestions on replacing the currents? Is there some place to get pre-fitted ones? We are new to this forum and have learned a lot by reading all these great posts. We appreciate any feedback. The enthusiasm shared by other owners is exciting and we cant wait to get camping.
