  1. I had the same problen with the same motor in a sunrader. I changed hoses, belts, thermostat and went to half and half anti freeze or so I thought turns out mechanic put in straight water. However when I took the MH to montana from NY last year after the work no problem gauge stayed at a quarter way whole time. MH sat all winter with no anti freeze in it unknown to me I nevered checked it was on the bill and I trusted mechanic. Took MH out for the first time after winter and took a trip and I have the same problem as you heats all the way up at 60 ,65 and cools down at around 50, 55. I have no leaks and I dont think I had a freeze up but I have been watching this thread hoping you would find a solution before I started spending money. As for the fuel mileage I never did that well as some say they do I get 11 to 12 steady. I have heard these motor homes only get 17 to 20 when your selling them and when your owning them 11 to 14 is more realistic. mm
  2. I have an 87 sunrader with a 4 cyl and it has cruise control , the cable is broke and I am trying to get a new one. it is made by a company called Travel Accessories a division of ARA Manufacturing County Road 200 & M PO Box 248 Orland CA 95963 I cant find them anyplace I have the paperwork for it I guess its from the dealer and was aftermarket installed by the dealer. Anyone know where to find parts for this. thanks mm
  3. Well I got to this during the weekend , I flushed out the system with one of those preston kits, I put in a new thermostat and new 50/50 antifreeze. I took it on the highway with the ac going full blast and the temp gauge never went over a quarter. The only thing is the outside temp has been a little cooler than it was last week but I think the problem is solved. Not sure which one it was but seemed like all three things had to be done at the same time and the cost was very little. Well next week I am taking the toy to montana so I am hoping all is ok. Thanks for the help to all. mm
  4. I saw one on ebay this week it needed a lot of work though. mm
  5. Well with the motor off I turned the fan and it turns with minor resistiance. it is just a lottle tight, I am not sure if its good or not but when you run the motor it is turning does that mean its of. The fan runs as soon as you start the engine and continues to run?, I am going to change the anti freeze tomorrow. thanks mm
  6. I have anti freeze in it, the belts are new , the radiator is clean and so is the ac condensor, the hoses are new also did them and the belts togther about 2000 miles ago. I dont know how to check the fan clutch can someone explain looking at the fan it looks ok is there somthing I can do to test it. As for the thermostat , the fact that it is not overheating but running hot with ac on only would that not mean the thermostat was ok, if not I will change it as it is the easiest change of the whole system. Is there a way to test the water pump as I said the condition is only with ac on at highway speeds is there a test to see if thats it. Also I read that the mixture of anti freeze to water could cause this if not enough water is mixed in, is this true, I have never had this happen to me in any car and I have run all anti freeze in the past. But I do have more antifreeze that water in my toy. thanks for the help mm
  7. I have a 87 sunrader with a 22 re 4 cyl when I operate it at highway speeds with the ac on the temp gauge goes to the top white line. It is on the line any more and I would be in the overheat zone. But when I slow down or operate at low speeds the temp is in the middle of the gauge. Is this normal or is there a problem or should I just turn off the ac. Yesterday I did that and put on the heat and the temp went to the middle. I am planning a long trip and would like to use the ac any suggestions or is this ok. mm
  8. I have an 87 sunrader and of course the cargo box is missing and I dont think I will ever find a replacement original box. I am thinking of mounting a plastic pickup cargo tool box on the rear bumper for light bulkey stuff. My awning, a couple of folding chairs, barbque, etc.. Does anyone have a better sugestion or reason I should not do this. I am taking a trip about 4500 miles round trip and I need the space. mm
  9. I bought a rope and pole awning and I am pleased with it. It would most likely fit the track you already have. These are not fancy but the price is right. Just search rope and pole awning on the internet. There was one company that made them and a bunch that sold them. The company that makes them sells them and they were helpfull to me when I bought mine. I will put a picture of mine. It is 8 feet.
  10. Mine had not been run for a while when I got it and the carb was shot. I went through rebuild kits but then I found a new one on e bay so I bought it right away and put it on. I pull the choke out all the way and she starts up but as you push in in if you push it in to far it will stall. I think its running to rich now and I was hoping a tune up could fix it up. The muffler and tailpipe off it are in bad shape I have to see if I can replace that. I have a two week trip planned in sept and I will need it every day. I am going to put a plug in it this week and change the oil and see if I can get it to run better. I always hate to take this stuff in to shops, chances are they have never seen one and you get ripped off. mm
  11. Mine has the tecumsh engine also. No points or anything else to change in that? If its just a plug I can do that. It runs and powers everything when I got it it would not run I found a new carb for it and put it on and it runs good but you have to fiddle with the choke and get it just right and it can be a little hard to start so I was thinking a good tune up. Once it gets going it runs ok. It needs a muffler and tail pipe also any idea where to get that. I got the carb of e bay. mm
  12. Thanks I think I will go with one of those adapters since I am satisfied with the stereo in the camper and I did not want to spend a lot on a new set up. That adapter is just what I need I see where you can hook it to a disc man player and play cds also. I get books on cds from the local library and I like to listen to them when I drive far it really passes the time. thanks again mm
  13. Where do you guys take your Toy with generators for generator service. I have an 87 sunrader with a Kohler 2500 generator that is original to the camper . It runs ok but I am planning a long trip and would like it tuned up and a new muffler and exaust pipe put on. I am sure it has not been tuned in years. I dont know where to take this as I think parts could be an issue. Do they take it out of the camper to work on it. mm
