  1. This should be the right type paneling but exact match on the color I don't know, The nearest location to you is Holister, Ca and shipping might be quite expensive. If you decide this is the stuff you must have I can at least save you the trouble of making a serious color mistake. I'm about an hour from Holister and I have Sunraders so I could drive down there and see if I can find a match. I fact I will be going near there on the 22 of Feb. Email me directly and let me know

    Hi All,

As most of you know I am working on my 1985 Sunrader. I am having a Great time working on things as I go along.

When I work on projects I try to stay a couple of steps ahead so I have what I need, when I need it.

My question is, does anyone know of a source for the paneling that was used in our Toys? It may sound funny, but I really like the paneling look in mine. It has a nice cozy effect, so I want to replace what has been damaged by a leak at a side window, and also remove and replace the panel job the PO had done in the kitchen area.

I have looked at the painting jobs that people here have done, some really nice work for sure. I also have painters in the family, so doing that is not the issue, it is getting the look I want. I have also searched this forum, others, and the net and I am not finding anything on where to get that type of paneling.

I Do Not Want paneling with the lines in it. I can get that at a box store.

    Thanks in advance!!! :)

  2. Andrew said "I wonder if Dean would be up for some sort of "group buy" for windows. Mine are showing their age, and while still water tight I'd love to either have replacements on hand or just go ahead and put in some new ones now. Am I alone? If we could get the prices lower by promising a larger order...

I would like one, the other is already new. I wonder how hard they are to replace, has anybody refitted one and did it come out water tight?

Turtle the owner of toyota-campers group at yahoo took both of his windows out to polish them and the reinstalled them. He purchased the rubber molding at a local auto glass shop. Built a scaffold to stand on to work. The molding is very water tight as long as you install it right. As far as a group order I'm guessing Dean wouldn't do it. Someone said the window was 300 in 2005 and now 6 years later it's still only 375. Not a whole lot of increase there. If someone wants to call though it can't hurt to try. I need 2 for a Nissan Sunrader I'm restoring and a friend of mine also needs 2 for a Toyota Sunrader 4x4 that needs major work. Let me know what they say

  3. The Odyssey rear dinette Mesa model has 2 facing sofas in back that make into a king size bed. The Dolphin has some similar models that will come close. Unfortunately the Sunrader is I think the narrowest of the toyhomes. Older Sunraders, 78 79, did have a sleep front to back set up and those were king size beds too but almost no living room and no pottie

    Linda S

Cool! Where did you find the brochure? I'll look here in the files section? Thanks. We were trying to think of a way to extend the width of the bed area... we thought if we could find a rear kitchen model then we could maybe modify the cab over bed to stick out further into the coach area with the help of some bracing along the wall or some brackets or who knows how. I wonder if they made an Odyssey with a rear kitchen?

  4. Just talked to Dean Elena at Advantage RV in Napa. He still owns the company, he still makes Sunrader windows and they are still 275 and 100 for installation. As far as the price, TAP plastics wanted to charge me 150 dollars just for the plexiglass sheet the size that was needed just to make the window. As far as whipping up one yourself, Randy in Salt Lake had his window guy, who has worked with plexiglass in the past, try to make one and he failed twice. It's a very large window and apparently not an easy job to do

    Linda Scott

Did they indicate that Dean had departed with the molds and that Advantage RV could not supply replacement windows?

  5. I called them last spring and the price was 275 for the window and 100 for installation. They need at least a month lead time bcause they only make them as needed. If you are unfortunate enough to have an older Sunrader with the larger front windows, up to 1980 or 81, you need to double that price.

    Linda

My records show that the previous owner had one of the curved windows replaced about 2005 for $300 (installed), don't know what they cost now, please let us know when you call them.

  6. I am looking for the missing sliding window latch locks, they are a little potmetal piece that sits midway up on the center frame piece. They turn 1/4 turn with a thumb lever and cam into the sliding window thus locking it shut. I have one example that I have taken to both the RV and hardware store, niether place had them. What should I be looking for to replace these?

These look like mine so they should look like yours too

I didn't check for size so you should

  7. Are you using putty or butyl? Was there a foam gasket, and was it intact?

When I met you I mentioned that I had resealed all the windows in my Nissan Sunrader. I'm quite sure it had never been done before. There was no foam there and I only used butyl tape to reseal them. It's possible that because someone used that foam they bent the window frame out slightly so you couldn't reseal it properly. I would just go with a double layer of butyl tape to do the job.

  8. I just brought home a new 1988 21' Toyota Sunrader here in Watsonville, and have 3 questions.
It came with a busted roof vent and I ordered a FanTastic fan vent. I've been told that one or the other roof vents has both 12v and 110v. I don't see any wiring. In the front (busted) vent I do see what looks to be a 1/2" copper pipe running through the plywood down towards the closet. I can pull it out, but not find the outside end above the ceiling. I see no wires in it. Any thoughts? I need 12v current up there.
Second, the step is damp, and the undercoating is pulling away from the bottom of it (It's not glassed.) The previous owner says he was told that some sort of drain conduit from the front windows (?) rand down to the step. Makes no sense to me. Thoughts?
Finally, I have some leakage around windows. Can I just pull the screws from the inside of the frame and pop them out, run silicone under them and put them back or is there more to it?
    Thanks

There are no 12 volt wires to the roof vent areas. I wired mine to the nearest light fixture running the wires along the ceiling. You can cover them with tape but I just used wire clips stuck to the ceiling. I don't konw where the water at your step is coming from. There is no way it's coming from the cab. More likely its just the underside of the step is rotted and it's coming in from holes that are there in the fiberglass. Step is removed in one of my Sunraders and there are screw holes and a step light hole ect. Your windows need to be all removed and resealed. I used butyl tape on mine. It lasts much longer and it's not as hard to use as many people think. Trick is to put it in the fridge before you try to work with it. It's also available in white which I think looks better than the gray putty stuff. I will be in Watsonville on Dec 12th at Pinto lake if you want to come by and ask questions. you can email me at

  9. Hi All,

I need to find proof of what year this sunrader was made and I have not come up with much so far, In New Zealand emission laws stop any 1990 onwards vehicles being registered and this one was first reged in Japan in 1990 and thats all the info I have so far, so no good for me unless I can find proof it was manufactured before that date, any help would be much appreciated. Chasiss number is RN61-0063367

    Cheers Cary

    http://www.motorhome...ux_sunrader.htm

This body style was only produced until 1988. In 1989 Toyota made major changes to the frame and body style. Any Toyota dealer should be able to give you info to verify this. Also Gardiner Pacific didn't make any 4x4's after 1988 because if they did they would have used a 6 cylinder chassis. I trust yours is a 4 cylinder 22re engine.

  10. Hi,

I just bought a 1984 Sunrader and the appliance water pump is leaking (non-functional). Until I can replace it or stop the leak, do any of you have a guess as to whether or not there is some type of manual release (or where I might look) so I can empty the rest of the water in the water tank without having to run it through the system (i.e. without having to use the pump). Thanks for your help!

    Julian

There should be a little ring release valve somewhere near the water tank outlet. In my 18 foot Sunrader it's between the tank and the water pump. It will drain your tanl onto the ground. I just replaced my water pump too. 50 bucks on ebay.

  11. Curious about your Nissan project, can you give us some info?

Are Nissan dual rear axles compatable with Toyota drive shafts? Any idea on gearing differences? I ask because there's an old Nissan Sunrader with dually's for sale down the road, been staring at it for awhile now as a potential axle upgrade/4x4 transfer candidate. Never mind that I have no time for my current project - but one can always dream and scheme!

Any info would be helpful. Good luck with your project, hope your making more headway than I am with mine.

    Kevin

This is the information I've found on the Nissan axles. The gearing is very different from the toys and I'm not mechanic so I wouldn't have a clue if it would fit. I do happen to have both a Nissan and a Toy Sunrader and there are alot of differences. The main one being the Nissan is a v6. Actually the first v6 Sunrader Garner-Pacific ever made. A certified Nissan mechanic told me my d21 is number 301. Was pretty much trashed and it's draining my bank account but needed to be saved. Here's the info

  12. For 4x4 owners still struggling with a 15 inch wheel in front and a 14 on the back or anyone who would like to upgrade to a larger wheel I recently discovered some Dodge Sprinters came with 15" duallies. The only production 15 inchers I know of in at least 30 years. An upgrade would only require 2 adapters instead of 4 custom wheels. Here are some on Ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/15-DODGE-SPRINTER-DUAL-STEEL-WHEEL-WHEELS-RIMS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eaec45223QQitemZ200500597283QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I'm currently restoring a Nissan Sunrader and it sits so high on the chassis the 14 inch wheels look stupidly small. Deffinately going to keep this in mind for the future

    Linda Scott

  13. You left out some important things. It's the only king cab Sunrader ever built. The only 4x4 with custom made 15 inch wheels and has been featured on every 4x4 and expedition vehicle site online. It's worth what someone will pay and times are tough right now. I think you'd get the best price on ebay. Just set the reserve so you don't regret anything when it's done.

  14. Ok So your looking for shocks for one of the heaviest 4x4 Sunrader shorties out there. The shocks you have listed are all for a 2WD vehicle. You need 4x4 shocks and strong ones. No Monroe No KYB gas-adjust, try KYB monomax. Bilsteins OK but also look at Rancho rs5000 or 9000. They are made for 4x4"s.Just make sure you don't buy the ones made for lifted chassis or off road only. Airlift's are air bags which you already have, don't need replacing unless they are leaking air. Where's Greg?

  15. Hi All

As some of you know I'm looking for a 90's model Toy. Not sure about selling my 85. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of things I should look for on this 1990 Odyssey? In your opinion, is it made well or not? I've seen alot of Dolphins in the 90's and most were in real bad shape. I'm hoping this Toy is ok. I'll be going to see it Mon or Tues. ANY advice would be appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Cathy

Odyssey's are great but if it's the one in San Diego beware. Donation place, the guy calls himself Godman. Price went from 4 grand to ten. Steals pics from this site so you don't know what it really looks like

  16. I weighed my 86 18ft Sunrader awhile back. It came in at 5200lbs with full tanks and alot of gear as I was heading out on one of my high mountain trips. I have since removed the very large non-working air-conditioner(at least 150lbs) and replaced it with a Maxfan vent. Eventually I'll remove the Kohler generator ( another 150lbs) and carry a honda eu200i (46lbs). I don't think my rig could possibly weigh much more than 46 to 48 hundred lbs
