bufbooth
Hello All, I have been search for a fuel tank that fits into a rear mounted spare tire, I used to see them sold for 1989 - 1995 Geo Trackers, but cannot find one. I just found the following ATV fuel tanks that looks like may work, just wanted to get some feedback from the group on why this may not be a good idea to use. Looks like this 1.5 Gallon ATV fuel tank has a round mounting bracket that looks like one could mount directly inside of a rear bumper spare tire by using the spare tire bolt holes. I was thinking the fuel tank would be on the outside of the spare tire vs between the tire and the coach body. The spare tire would provide side and front protection, and the spare tire cover would cover it from the rear. Thanks....Dennis... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KOLPIN-ATV-1-5-GALLON-FUEL-PACK-JR-GAS-CAN-TANK-89185-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5adb0cd049QQitemZ390222106697QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KOLPIN-ATV-WATER-CAN-GAS-FUEL-PACK-FLAT-MOUNT-89435-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem43a0ad0a8aQQitemZ290458503818QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
bufbooth
Hello All, I just purchased one of these Kolpin fuel tanks off of ebay, I got a combo kit that had the tank and the flat round mounting bracket. The total price was $36 plus $10 shipping for a total of $46. I should have it next week. Here is the Kolpin URL on the combo kit: http://www.kolpinpowersports.com/products/water-and-fuel-packs/fuel-pack-jr-with-pack-mount.html I am going to mount this inside my spare tire (hopefully the bracket holes line up with the bolt holes in the rim, otherwise I need to make an adaptor) that is attached to the RV's rear bumper. I am also going to try it on my 1990 Geo Tracker. If it works okay on both of them, I will end up buying an extra mounting bracket (about $15) so I can just transfer the tank from one vehicle to another as needed. The Tracker has only a 11 gallon tank. Would be nice to know that one has an extra 20 mile fuel reserve (1.5 gallons) while traveling. Dennis... bufbooth
I received my Kolpin Fuel Pack today and it is pretty heavy duty, I think one can run the thing over and not do any damage. Unfortunely, it will not fit inside of my spare tire, it is too wide. I made a measurement mistake, I did a quick measure of the width of the inside base of the rim, it was 12.25 inches. The Fuel Pack is 11.5 x 12. In my hast I figured I had a 1/4 inch to spare, but forgot that I was trying to fit a square into a circle, the corners are too wide. However, the mounting system appears to be pretty strong and it secures the fuel pack to it very tightly. One could still mount this fuel pack on the outside of the rim, it just would not be inside the rim. Also, I am going to check to see if it might work by securing it to the truck's original spare tire bracket/space, which is under the truck. Later, Dennis...
