rspina
I have a chance to buy a 77 Chinook for reasonable. Ad says "r20" engine & manual transmission. Any particular things to watch for on this model? Thanks in advance for any info. Rich
knowltondata
Not that I can think of offhand... the only thing the 20R/22R engines had a problem with was timing chains wearing through their guides too quick but your model is way before that, in fact that's a double row timing chain. That engine will live long life.
nhcamper
I just put a 77 Chinook on the road that my parents owned and drove up to 1991. I replaced the clutch and did reg. fluid changes and it runs like a top. The only thing that concerns me is the coolent temp. gauge tends to read near the high side of the high temp line. I checked my fan pully and did notice a bit of slop in the waterpump shaft. I think I will change it just to be safe. If you can buy the Chinook for a reasonable price you will not be disapointed. Good luck
