Was probably originally a 4.10:1 (G294), though a few seem to have been ordered with

4.30:1 (G284) ratios. You most certainly do NOT want a 3.90:1. If you do a search for

'4.56' and '4.88' you'll find lots of discussion about other ratios.

Is there any way to tell what the ratio is just by looking at the rear end. i.e. Someone buys a rear end out of the junk yard, Are there any numbetrs stamped on the rear end or on the ring and pinion gears inside??

I'm no expert but I haven't read anything about any stampings on the axle housing to indicate the ratio. But I have seen mentioned a 'color coding'. But I'm not sure where they put the paint dabs!

Ratio Color

4.10 Pink

4.11 Orange

4.30 Blue

4.37 Green

4.56 Yellow

4.88 White
