thepager5
Hey guys, I would like to replace my original seats with some newer/more comfortable seats. I have spoken to a couple of wrecker yards and I can get a set of bucket seats for $100 - $150 pair. Has anyone done this before? Can you tell me what car or truck to be looking for that the bolt holes match-up? Can I get power seats and hook them up easily? Thanks, Pager Arkansas
Yostfmx
I don't think it would be hard at all to find seats that the will bolt on, most are very close. You could make a bracket to make them work, well... that may not be safe now that I think of it. Power seats? I have not a clue but you should be able to take all the power stuff out of your old seats and move them to your new ones. Or you could recover your like I did mine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Yostfmx/DCP_2868.jpg Didn't do that great of a job. Its not all that hard if you know how to sew, used the old brown sides and back.
keitholivier
I suggest removing the passenger seat and then seeing if it is possible to remove the bottom mouting bracket. If you can, then you can mark it for front / rear and take it with you on your search. While I doubt that you will find anything that matches exactly, it would be more feasible finding seats that are comfortable that you could then make a new subframe for (welded to the floor if needed ?) to which you then install the seats themselves. Most of these trucks were never designed for crash testing of the kind that is done today and in a real crash there are a million other things to worry about (like the UV degraded seat belts failing, or the cab to chassis attachments failing etc etc..) I am in the same boat as you wrt seats and would prefer something just a bit higher than the originals. With the warp speed that these sleds do, heaven knows we sit in those seats long enough so they had better be comfortable...
thepager5
Hey Guys, Found a set of leather seats that have a very close mounting hole pattern to fit my 86 Dolphin for $75 for the pair. The passenger seat is manual but the driver sear is power. Can I hook this seat up? Can anyone tell me if I can run a power wire to the fuse box? Please help - would hate to pass these great seats up. Pager Arkansas

I replaced the seats in my 1981 diesel 14 years ago with seats out of a BMW 320i. They were made for BMW by Recaro and are THE BOMB!!!! These are almost imposable to find now as people have realized what they really are but if you look you may be able to find a set. They are smaller than Toyota seats so they fit VERY nicely in the small Toyota cab area. They have a high side support and are the most comfortable driving seats I have ever owned. Any NON Toyota seat will require you to drill mounting holes in the Toyota. Try to find seats where the rear mounting hole will go through the reinforced pan area or plan on adding reinforcement for the rear bolts. Here are some pics of the BMW seats if you want to go on a quest http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/BMW-seats.jpg http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/seatsInstalled.jpg http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/2searts-out.jpg http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/seatMountingHoles.jpg http://www.toymike.com/diesel/pics/seatBottom.jpg I would avoid power seats.
