  1. That could work! I'll have to do some investigating on sizes. Thanks!
  2. I would have liked an oven in the RV! Mine came with the microwave. I enjoy cooking on the road and used our oven in the trailer a lot. I'll have to adjust my cooking mindset to microwave use.
  3. Yes, I agree. Not much 'free tv' these days. I want it mainly for using with a dvd player. My laptop is a Macbook and doesn't take a dvd/cd. You'll have to explain what a tv tuner is.
  4. I had planned to attach the 19inch flat screen tv I bought to the counter above the fridge, but, then I thought...maybe someone else has a unique and better place for it. I saw someone's photo of the tv sitting on the back of the bench seat. Saves the counter space or something else! Anyone have any placement ideas they want to share, also hardware used to attach. Thanks in advance!-Sue
  5. I have a friend who owns a Toyota Dealership here in BC, Canada. He is going to look into this SSC for me. He has my VIN and will let me know where I stand. He's a great guy...we buy our everyday vehicles from him alone. I'll keep you posted.
  6. I did make it out to the RV and plugged it into shore power. (on a side question...I'm assuming the coach battery charges when on shore power like it does in our trailer. Am I right?) The AC made a humming noise, but no air flow. I wouldn't have heard that humming while on the gennie power. So, my next thoughts are to open it up and clean it out, use some WD40?? Thoughts? I'm wondering if it's just stuck with age and dirt/dust/goo!
  7. So you won't be needing A/C for at least 6 months! Plenty of time to solve the problem. Ain't that the truth! I am hoping to make a road trip south with a couple of my kids in February, but we were down that way last year at that time too and didn't find a need for AC. We have one in our travel trailer that we rarely ever use, so thinking about replacing the AC with a Fantastic Fan if it's not fixable.
  8. Thanks so much to all of you! I will be heading out into our very windy and wet west coast BC weather today and check all of this out. Here's hoping it's a simple fix!
  9. I'll have to get that info tomorrow. I'm away from the rig for the night.
  10. I spent today going over all the various appliances in my rig (1992 Itasca Spirit). I've only had this baby for a few days, and in between taking care of my grandkids while their parents are away, I managed to get the furnace, fridge and hot water all running. I then changed the oil in the built in Kohler gennie, started outfitting the rig with gear and decided where to install the 19 inch flat screen TV I bought 2nd hand. After I'd changed the oil in the gennie, I thought I'd let it run for a bit while I tested out the AC and microwave. Microwave works great. AC not so much. I have no clue where to even begin trying to troubleshoot it. Fuse? Is there one? Missing a step in starting it? Can't see any more buttons or switches. The manual wasn't very helpful. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  11. I called ICBC and they want me to take it in to an insurance broker and have them do the adjustments. Maybe a year older will affect my insurance rates?
  12. So, another question...I will be contacting my local Toyota dealer soon to arrange the head gasket appointment. As the timing belt is due to be changed (and water pump) and I have no idea where these things are located...would it save me money to have them do these as well at this time? I seem to remember someone somewhere saying that the head gaskets involve having to remove 'stuff' that also has to be removed for the timing belt. Labour cost savings? I have a mechanic who works on our cars that has his own shop in his yard. He charges much less for labour (gets paid in cash only), so had planned to get him to do it, but this might save me in the long run. Yes? No?
  13. This is what comes up when I punch in my VIN... Title 3VZ-FE V6 Engine Head Gasket Status Remedy Available Description This is a Special Service Campaign. The engine cylinder head gaskets of Toyota Compact Pick-up Truck, 4Runner, and T100 vehicles may leak leading to symptoms of loss of engine coolant, unusually rough idling, continuous discharge of white exhaust smoke, or diminished engine performance. The subject vehicles are equipped with the V6 engine and were produced from January 1990 through September 1994. Remedy Contact any authorized Toyota dealer to schedule an appointment to have the cylinder head gaskets with improved gaskets as soon as possible. Does this mean I will be able to have this done?
  14. I picked up the RV today and the first thing I did was check the VIN. Sure enough, there was one digit wrong. It says on the registration that it is J1..., but the vehicle says it's JT... Also wondering about the M in mine...as it is on the registration it says it's a 1992, but it does have the 'M' I have a huge binder from Winnebago that came with it with all the manuals etc. It has a sticker on the inside cover saying the vehicle is a 1991. I will be visiting ICBC to get the papers corrected. I used the correct VIN in the Lookup and it has not had the head gasket replaced, so I will be getting that done ASAP! Thanks for all your help!
  15. Nope, nothin'. I called ICBC and they said the person who registered the rig for me should have gone and looked at the VIN on it, but they didn't. There may have been a mix up in the VIN # when it was copied down at some point, so I will be checking this tomorrow.
  16. I called my local Toyota dealership and they were unable to get anything on my VIN. The website too. 17 digits, double checked. Still nothing. Uhoh!
  17. So, Derek Up North...from what I can gather, if I take this RV into a Toyota shop, they can tell me if the head gasket has been done already, correct? If it hasn't, will they replace? Or does it actually have to blow before getting replaced? Thanks!
  18. I have just purchased a 92 Itasca Spirit, V6 3l. I took it in for a pre purcase 60 point check, which it passed with flying colours! As it is at 106k km it is due for a timing belt change. The mechanic who did the inspection could not find out if it could have had a timing chain rather than a belt. Is this possible? I remember seeing somewhere that 92s with the 4 cyl. had chains, but not the V6s. Is that correct? Thanks in advance!
  19. I'm a total dunce when it comes to engines. My hubby is away for a few months (figures!) and I have found what could be 'my' Toyota RV. I have to travel a few hours to look at it and don't want to waste my time or the owners if it is a dud. So, here is what I know.. It's a 1992 Itasca Spirit with 106k km. The ad reads... Clean, comfortable 22 foot motorhome Toyota cab, Winnebago coach. Toyota V-6, 3 liter engine. New fridge, 6 brand new tires. Generator. Tilt steering, cruise control, automatic with overdrive. 18 mpg. Always maintained, kept under cover. Manuals and receipts The photos show what looks to be a very clean, well maintained unit. No apparent rust on the body. What should I be asking and looking for? We currently own a large travel trailer, so I can deal with the appliance checks, sewer, etc. But, what should I be wary of as far as the engine goes? And the body? Help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to miss this one if it is a goodie! Thanks in advance. Sue
