  1. I opened a can of worms repairing the rear bulkhead. Found badly rotted flooring and wood strips plus alum. has dropped below most of the framing. Odd Duck was just shoddy built, some spots under coach are over 2' without any support under the 3/8" ply. the bulkhead sides have pulled away from flooring. I was thinking of putting 1/8" alum. angle 1"x1 1/2" the outside edge of flooring and in between all the bigger open spots to support flooring. Anyone have any input of good ideas and materials? Both sides from behind axle are completely rotted, should i cut off all of that stuff and just tuck few inches of alum. skin under frame? The gray and black water tanks will show abit on the outside, but won't stop them from working. Any input on that pos or neg. i can roll with the flow. Some of y'all mayhave lots more wisdom and been thru this rebuilding process!
  2. OK i stripped rotted woodstrips out of floor and the foam. The alum. skin has fell down below the framing. Its from 1/2 " to 1 1/2" down. I need to put something under there when i jack up mh. Any ideas on light wt. tuff wood for using as new strips?
  3. Well i took the time to look up under edge of floor before i installed the rear bulkhead i just built. Good thing i did, so much rotted wood strips and 3/8's ply. I got out my jigsaw and cut all the plywood off. Started pulling up the rotted strips of wood and all the old foam that was glued to alum. skin. Oh yeah i found over half the width of alum. skin section wasn't even there. Its only about 10" but about 4' acrossed. No wonder its has a rotted floor. The both sides on bottom you can see daylight where its pulled away from floor. The 2 1/2" screws have pulled loose the outside wood strips are rotted and there is nothing to support the floor! They used wood screws to fasten sides to the floor before putting the alum. skin on. Most were screwed into the 3/8" ply flooring. Missed the thicker strip wood completely. Talk about poor building methods and materials. Odyssey's of this period sure leave much to be desired. I won't ever buy another early Odyssey, floor looks like a humped back whale! The center is as much as 2" bowed up above the inside bulkheads.
  4. Yes its really nice there. My Mrs. and i went out there tent camping some years and spent and week in that area. Then went up to West Vail and on to Glenwood Springs for another week. Up in and around White River Nat. forest and the flat tops.
  5. The salvage yard owner said it was a 6 lug 1 ton truck with complete rearend setup but only had single wheels up under it. Front end is totaled, its an 1988 and has 4.30 gear ratio. He said it was a 2wd, its only 82 miles and he wants $151.00 fer it. Guess it would be worth a run over there to check it out. i could take my 4x8 trailer and 4 ratchet straps just in case it was the real thing. Closest other setup is Toy MH rearend 6 lug out of Fl. for $450 plus shipping. I'd have to call and make sure its complete setup.
  6. I will have to weigh my Odd Duck and see how much it weighs empty. Hopefully no ore than 3600 lbs. Its 17' long, i am worried about the 5 lug dual wheels putting too much pressure on bearings. I may end up having to save up $ 600 fer and get a used 6 lug complete with wheels and tires. I know where a 6 lug is but it only has single wheels on it, i reckon i could find some dual wheels fer it.
  7. I have an older Toy MH and its fairly sound fer driving, has the old 4 cyl. and 4 spd. but it needs lots of repair from water damage that has rotted. Yup i will end up with close to or little bit over a grand in materials and tools. May go higher as i find more and more bad stuff. Sure keeps a retired man busy puttering around. Can't say i am working my self to death, can get wore down daily!
  8. moosepucky, i stepped on end and edge drivers side rear and felt like i was going thru. I had put marine epoxy let it harden and then put wood glue to smooth it out. So it didn't hold, i pulled that very back 3/8" ply. up, it was rotted too bad from that cracked water tank. Looked at some of the rest and the ends up to sink cabinet and the fridg are rotted. I pulled the hot water heater out and will take out the gas lines next. Seems every thing from range passenger side to other side from breaker box/storage going to the rear is dropping. I will get under it and look to see if i can jack it up and use 1/4" alum. angle bolted to stop it. I have 1x1 1/2" and new foam insulation and 1/2" treated ply. to go back with. This is getting abit costly buying all the and materials. Good lesson for me and i won't jump on another in this cond. this old. Might be different if it was an 86 or 87 but its a 79 Odyssey.
  9. Don't know any thing about a sunrader, know little about the 4 cyl. Mine has 4 spd. slow maybe, but that is why we got it. To look at the country side as we travel about. I don't know how fast ours will go, only have driven it one time from where we got it. I know it will do 55 mph and thats really fast enough and too fast to look at country.
  10. Rear bulkhead is finished, but i noticed how bad the floor was rotted and its got to replaced. Looks like i will be repairing and replacing about half of my Toy!
  11. We couldn't make it down here in the south without our a/c. Being at the senior ages its not as easy as it was 10 years ago to keep cool. The gen. at wide open is 68 decibels, less when its not under full load. The honda is over twice the cost which this year isn't going to happen. I wouldn't use gen. in any campground or park as that would bother folks. We would pay for the full hookups.
  12. Well i got the frame built. Now i know how to do it better next time. I got one backside panel put on. Have the tail light slots layed out, waiting on cut off tool to cut out the slots in panel. I put one part of front panel on stapled so nice and noticed i had not put the foam insulation in. Gee what a time i had getting panel up enough to put foam under without ruining the panel. Found out its too long to come thru the doorway. So i was going to drop the rear bumper and pull rear skin back. Nope the bumper is welded. I was able to take the sides apart enough i could pull rear skin back enough to slide the frame under and up inside. Took it back out and will finish it then install it. Learning by trail and error on this repairing projects. I am not looking forward the side bulkheads and the over cab repair. Actully complete rebuild like rear bulkhead was.
  13. Yes, if your ? makes them lie they try to avoid an answer! There is an 84 Toy MH on ebay and i finally got an answer about the rearend. Its a 5 lug under a 21 ft. overloaded from the get go! People bidding on it anyway, spect they have lots of money gathering dust and need to spend it to get rid of it!
  14. Does anyone know if this setup would be ok under the Toy MH? I could use Cont. vanco8's 205/75/14, they have 2200 lb. load rating. Thats 4400 lbs. for the rear. I have found a good many complete rearends reasonably priced. The dually setup they all want $450 and higher! Plus shipping!
  15. I pulled inside cover off a/c and got num. found i have the coleman mini mach a/c. So thats why my 15 amp breaker holds up and runs everything at once. I'd like to get a Honda Eu2000i generator but cost is more than i got my MH for! I will just have to save up for it. With one of those others i would have to chain or bolt it down on my utility trailer with our other stuff. Not putting much of anything in MH while driving, will get it weighed soon as i can put it back on the road.
  16. I have been watching Ebay and Powermax 4400/3500 gas with recoil and or eletric start. Has 12 volts charging system and has rv switch to lock both 110 outlets as one for 27 amps. My Odd Duck has 30 amp power setup, i plug it into a 15 amp breaker in and it runs everything including a/c and frig. Has never tripped breaker. So anyone know anything about this gen.? If it would hold up 2 or 3 years for the $420 i would well satisfied.
  17. I lookedat and read about those axle facts and such. My dual wheels don't look anything like those adapted junk. I know it doesn't change the fact i have a 5 lug axled rearend. Mine is 17'6" counting those bumpers. Take my back sewer line holding bumper off and i have 17' even. Gwvr is 4600 lb.s If and when i ever get enough repairs done i will take it to truck scale and weigh it.
  18. Never saw a MH with one have saw travel trailers like that.
  19. The rack had been broken and part of it was missing except for the suport bases in roof. The roof can't take a 57 year old fat man up on it! The a/c has made roof sag about an inch so far. I have it jacked it up to stop anymore roof and floor trying to meet in the middle!
  20. Well while i went to town for parts. A dreaded thunderstom came thru and drenched my MH!Water every where up on sagging roof on inside from missing tail light assy.'s. and open side box covers. Then Lowes closed at 6 pm, i thought it stayed open til 7, so was able to grab 3 water fittings. Didn't have time to get paneling or insulated foam or treated 1"x 1 1/2" boards. Have put down rear bulkhead repair on paper worked it out so now its finish the rip out and cleanup while the Odd duck drys out! This will set me back couple of days for sure.
  21. I have taken off the complete tail light assemblys and tag light and tag holder. Doing a cleanup inside and outside before i go any farther with repair work. Have to go to Lowes and get water fittings and such. Going to order eternabond double side tape and 1 1/4" alum. angle to replace all the alum. trim that has let go and sagging every where. Gee this is lots of work i need to complete by July 1st!
  22. Well their taken off going for scrap alum. They were adding weight on sagging roof and rotted areas. Got all the screws out of roof also. Never saw so much goop put on a roof for water leaks. Didn't stop the leaks cause weight from a/c pulling seams away! There is still white goop on roof under alum. kool-seal thats still tacky. Must be 4 or 5 coats of all that stuff on it. Got the tank water inlet in mail today. Its bigger than original so i have to cut and trim to fit it, its also plastic. I am waiting on the sun to ease into the west as its 97 degrees right now,ick
  23. I'm a new-b here and picked up a 1979 Odyssey 4 speed stick R20 engine. Its 17' 6" bumper to bumper. I have started the repairing and its a handful and money pit for me. Just love it, had couple spots floor rot. I did the epoxy and vapor seal with 1/2" treated 20 year ply on floor. Will put tile down, the carpet 2 sets was the pits! Got my new water tank in waiting hose fill inlet to redo the plumbing using pvc 600 lb. 1/2". Have removed lower half of rear bulkhead under picture window. what a rotted mess and engineers nightmare! Patch work 1x1 and 1x3 with styerofoam. That stuff was stapled in before the outside skin was put on. Makes for tough repair from inside only! Named it Odd Duck.
  24. Hey mine also has one on drivers rear door opening and one low on coach on drivers side.
  25. pogi cabelas has aux. gas tanks in bargin cave for $34 10 or 12 gal. size
