  1. Installed new ignition cylinder lock. Knife blade was broken inside keyhole. This made it a bit difficult but I was able to move the key switch to AC with screwdriver. Then I squeezed smaller screwdriver into outer housing to push down release button. The old cylinder was then easily pulled out and the new one inserted. Thanks for all your help! Now I have NEW problem. Can't locate the lower plastic steering column cover that the would-be thief broke. I searched our local wrecking yard but no luck. The part number is 45287-35180. Can someone direct me to a reasonably priced source?
  2. Fred, great idea about coil wire! We have 22RE so not sure about the fuel cut-off valve. Those things are easy to do and tough for car prowler/thieves to see much less overcome. My thoughts are also on more visible deterrents. Discouraging thieves BEFORE they break-in and do costly damage. If they SEE something that will cost them more time to be successful they just might not try in the first place. Make sense?
  3. I appreciate the replies. We've ordered off of Amazon a new cylinder lock and wire assembly. Together they came to around $60. As we have "Prime Membership" both qualified for free 2-day shipping. Should have before weekend so I can install. This occurrence however has awaken me to the threat we all share. In an instant someone can easily steal our classic RV's. Even though I thought I was being diligent in keeping our baby in a "secure" 24-hour monitored facility, my effort wasn't enough. I'm looking at what other measures I can do to detour car theft (i.e. wheel locks, steering wheel clubs, etc.) I would love to hear what others have and/or will be doing to ensure that their beloved Toyota RV doesn't show up missing one day.
  4. We keep our RV in a secured area in out housing development. Unfortunately someone cut through the fence and broke into our RV. They went through one of our coach windows. I had left them open a crack for ventilation and thought I had them locked. They went straight to the cab and proceeded to break open the ignition cover. They also tried to use a knife in the ignition but broke their blade. They left the broken cover on floor and fortunately the sheriff was able to pull some prints. A report is filed and hopefully they'll apprehend these lowlifes. I'm left now with an ignition where I can't use my key. Can someone give me an idea how best to repair?
  5. Recently had to replace my alternator on our '85 Rogue. It has the 22RE motor with manual transmission and no power steering. I wanted to post a global "thank you" for this thread. Everything I needed to know about this repair was gleaned through the thoughtful responses posted here. You are a wonderful group of people that unselfishly devote your time to assist others.
  6. We have used our cruise control quite extensively up and down the Pacific coast over the years. It works wonderfully! Of course it's not made for twisty roads or steep hills. Our setup is a 22RE with 4-speed manual transmission.
  7. Note that we have a 5-lug front and 6-lug rear. Hopefully you have the same configuration.
  8. I had to look twice at your picture as it looks almost like our RV. Ours is a 1985 Rogue. It has around 62k, 22RE, and a 4-speed manual transmission. We've had it for 3 years and just LOVE it. Hope you enjoy your "new" RV.
  9. I thought you folks would like to see some pictures of this over 100 year old spring shop in Everett, WA. Cal and Larry are co-owners. Cal is 74 years old so Larry (late 50's) does most of the.work there now. In fact Larry is in one of pictures below under our Rogue doing some last minute touches before we head back home last Saturday.
  10. We picked up our Rogue last Saturday. Drove her 60 miles home. 75% on freeway and balance on twisty country roads. I'm very pleased how she handled. Going there we traveled our standard 50-55mph but on way home I was shocked to experience consistently 65-70mph. Very little body sway even on the narrow 6-mile curvy road that borders the lake near our home. The back has been raised about 3 inches. So nice to not hear that grinding sound when pulling into parking lots or driveways! The total price with tax ran $1,144.60. They removed rear springs, rearched springs (cold press), added two leaves to each side, replaced the two broken leaves in two stage, installed new bushings in springs and swinging shackle mounts, installed springs and installed new U Bolts. The labor was 6.8 hours at $85/hr. Parts pricing: (4) 7mm x 60mm leaves $202.68; (2) 9mm x 60mm leaves $146.42; (12) half bushings $29.40, and (4) 9/16 x 3.5 x 9 u bolts $37.20. Shop supplies $49.69 (based 5% of invoice) and Tax $101.21. Please find below pictures of the final product. I'm interested to hear what you folks think. It was an expensive repair for us and hopefully this new setup will give us trouble free driving for years to come. Thank you Linda for your suggestion of this shop. They were fun to work with and they have committed to stand behind this installation should we ever be dissatisfied.
  11. We visited the shop on Saturday. It was like stepping back in time. Larry who is one of the owners was at a huge hydraulic press shaping a leaf spring when I walked through their small office into the huge shop. Larry quickly set aside his work and inspected our springs and said we came in at just the right time. He's been working on Toyota RV's since they were new and really knows his trade. We went back into his office where he quickly calculated that it will take $900 to fully repair our suspension. I was a bit shell shocked but agreed to proceed. He was confident that we'll be very happy with the results. We agreed to settle up next Saturday when the job is completed.
  12. We use cruise control almost always on the freeway (22RE with 4-speed manual transmission). Our travels over the last 3 years have been predominately going up and down the west coast. It has performed great from our prospective. Easy to set and adjust.
  13. Hi Mark! Thanks for the advice. I will be sure to ask them to maximize the lift. I do intend on adding Bilstein shocks too down the road. Have quote for (4) installed at $400.
  14. Per Derek's suggestion I checked with the shop. They indeed have the correct.size as they do lots of Toyota 4x4 work. As to your.question Mark regarding 2-day timeframe they are quite busy and will have to squeeze me in. We have relatives in area so it gives us an excuse to visit. I want the shop to have as much time as they need to do this right.
  15. Thank you all for your replies! I took your advice and researched the place Linda found. It has great reviews. Called Larry and made an appointment for this weekend. They work for a half day on Saturday. He seemed very confident they would have us fixed up in just a few days. I'll keep you posted on how it goes!
  16. I think it's time to replace our leaf springs and need advice as to what I.should install. Our chassis is dated August 1984 however it does have the 6-lug axle. Can someone lead me in the right direction as to what parts to order (i.e. Leaf Springs, Mounting Bushings, Shocks, etc.)? I tried searching this board but haven't had much luck.
  17. We have one of these in our unit and though the light comes on, we've never got any reception using it with our crank up antenna. Can someone explain it's function?
  18. Hi Dvdcnl, Nice looking Rogue you have there! Your interior is similar to ours except we have two swivel chairs and cabinet opposite couch. There's a receptacle in the floor where we can insert a chrome tube for our dining table. As to our storage unit in back, I believe it came from the factory this way. I've seen pictures of Rogues with the same type/size of chest. It's so convenient to store all our various camping and maintenance equipment. The frame extension is exactly how you described. I hope you have lots of fun in your new Rogue. Ours is currently in storage but we can't wait to take it out this summer for a bunch of new adventures!
  19. 86Rader, I was unaware of "fed regs" banning certain RV's such as these in our country. Can you give me a quick summary as to what these regulations are and when they were enacted?
  20. It's interesting to me that the dealer in Australia says on their site that they are the "exclusive" dealer for these units. Perhaps they mean outside Japan?
  21. I was doing a Google search and came up with a company in Australia that is a dealer for the Toyota Camroad. Has anyone heard of these? They look pretty good to me! I would paste link bit can't figure how to do with my smart phone.
  22. Linda, Thanks so much for the info and pictures. Interesting that they made a pop top too. Anything else you or others could share would be deeply appreciated.
  23. We have had our little Toyota Rogue for three years. It has the 22re engine with manual 4-speed transmission. Does anyone have any information on these coaches? I've never seen one on the road. It has decals on back that say "Rogue" and underneath in smaller letters "Ranger Industries".
  24. I thought some might be interested in seeing pictures from our last trip down the Oregon coast. Our little Rogue with it's 22re engine, manual transmission and no power steering ran flawlessly. We spent 23 days on the road having the time of our lives!
