  1. It is a stick built aluminum siding with water damage we were'nt expecting, we were planning on doing some cosmetic/funtional remodeling with a carpenter friend, but the damage was too extensive for him to actually have the time to help us with that. The windows leak from the inside lining, not the outer layer that gets caulked, so it may be a matter of finding different (reasonably priced) windows the replace the defective old ones that don't even lock. So we have been looking for help elsewhere and trying to learn what we can, but we know we need to weigh our options before we go in too deep. we are pretty deep in this already though, so I think our only answer that makes sense is to make it work. Does anyone have guesses at how much a gutted well running Toyta motorhome could go for? bought for 3,500 + 3,500 in mechanical work, but if we can get anything, I think my boyfriend would like to know that number, just to make sticking with this project easier. I've seen so many inspiring remodel videos and tutorials that make me think we can do this, but we have a big learning curve and have been trying to find the appropriate help.
  2. My boyfriend and I bought a Rader 1983 motorhome for 3,500 that we planned to live in one day. Turns out there was water damage, current roof leaks, and lots of repairs necessary. We put 3,000 into mechanical work and it runs great now (besides brake lines needing replacement). We had wanted to completely remodel the interior, so we gutted the whole thing. Now 7,000 in, with maybe 4,000 in interior work and a roof/window leak problem that could be very expensive to fix, we are having thoughts that we should have saved the money and bought a nicer RV from the get go. I know you live and you learn, but now we just don't know whether to take the loss and see what we can sell our gutted RV with 130,000 and 4 cylinders for, or pay 14,000+ just for our RV to be livable, without even buying any of the cool interior stuff that we wanted to add yet. We have a lot more research to do to see what we can do ourselves to reduce the cost of refinishing, but we have also had a lot of discouragement over the last year, with people saying they can help and then they can't, or them telling us that it's not worth fixing, and we don't have very many carpentry/handy man skills ourselves yet. Any opinions, direction or advice are greatly appreciated. I'll be looking into more specific forums for roof leaks/window replacement as well, but anybody know any good resources offhand? Thanks!
