  1. Hi Everyone, I'm taking the original oven/stove and Dometic fridge out my Sunrader. They are both in good and working condition. My question is if there is a aftermarket for these things? Do people buy these second hand? And if so what's the best place and price to sell them? Or should I just bring them straight to a dump? Thanks for letting me know! Stijn
  2. Just checked, and no, it's gone. Could that be the reason? Can it do permanent damage and should I get a new one? Thanks WME!
  3. Hi Everyone! Just got back from a 1200 mile/4day trip to Crater Lake Oregon with my 18ft Sunrader. As usual, it was great... love the Sunrader so much But, I guess because of the pouring rain during some parts of my trip the motor seems to stutter. More specifically if I start it up again or before taking off the motor would stutter, and it seems as if it could stall. Once I reach a certain speed the effect goes away again. Any idea what causes this? Something to be concerned about? Could it be cabling that takes in water? Let me know if you have clues or tips on how to solve this! Thanks! Stijn
  4. So WME, hosing off the engine compartiment with water doesn't damage the engine or other parts under the hood?
  5. Hey Everyone, So I got back from Burning Man, the Sunrader did great... so reliable and a great setup to sleep. Had a blast... but now cleaning up all the dust is the next big task. Any ideas on how to tackle the alkaline dust the best way possible? I have a small air compressor, and I will wash the RV with a vinegar and shampoo mix. Do I need to watch out for certain parts who are extra vulnerable to the alkaline dust? I already blew out as much dust as possible from the engine, any ideas on how to 'wash' most parts of the engine? I want to minimize the impact of the alkaline as much as possible. Thanks! Stijn
  6. Yes it was taken in Baja! At the San Ignacio Lagoon, went down there to see the grey whales. Amazing trip! Spend two weeks down there.
  7. I've been last year so I know I will end up in dust, part of the fun! just trying to keep the inside as clean as possible, just to get good sleep. Thanks for the tip WME! I looked at the fantastic fan, but didn't proceed with it, because I'm not sure I can finish it in time. However very interested in how I can achieve this with the swamp cooler. Could you be more specific on what you mean with 'keep the outlet area small enough' ? Do you think I should place the swamp cooler outside the camper and feed the air outlet into the camper with a air conditioner hose, or should I place the swamp cooler inside the camper? Let me know! Thx! Stijn
  8. Hello Everyone, Making a new topic here about bringing a Sunrader 18 Ft to Burning Man. And how to prep it against the dust and heat. All tips are welcome! And I'll add photos and learings of the before / during / after. Things I've done so far: - Made reflectix screens for every window. - Installed a 200w renogy solar set. - Made a swamp cooler that I plan to use. - Made a custom flagpole out of PVC tubing Things I plan doing at the event: - Tape off all black window seams with blue painters tape to protect against the dust, heat and coloring - Bought AC filters to tape over vents (any recommendations on this are very welcome), since I plan on using my propane fridge. - Tape off the air intake - Install a new air filter once I leave the event Questions I have so far: - Should I install a CO2 alarm? Or should I be fine on the fridge (not planning to use the heater) - Any other weak points I should be aware of? Please reach out with questions or tips!! Thanks, Stijn

    Solar Setup

Hi Everyone, Just added a solar setup to my Sunrader. Installed a 200W Renogy solar panel kit (great set and great company btw!). Wanderer charge controller. 12v 100Ah deep cycle battery and a 1000w Sine Wave inverter. Here's a couple pictures from the install. This only my temporary setup, and it would be great to hear some advice of you guys on final placements. Is that a good place for the battery? Is it ok with the gas line going above it? Anything I should know? FYI: Going to fixate the battery, so it can't go anywhere. And I will be cutting all the cables to the right lengths to increase performance once I know I have the perfect setup. Any ideas on where to place the Sine Wave inverter and on how I can connect my solar juice to the existing lighting, plugs, etc of the Sunrader? Kind of a noob in all of this Thanks!!!
  11. Hey Everyone, I'm going to do a rear frame extension on the back of my Sunrader shorty over the next month. Main purpose it to add stuff on there when going on trips. A cooler, bikes, bbq, gas, etc. But I also want it to double as a platform to put a lightweight Honda XL 250 on there.I found an example on Instagram. I would like to finish off the top surface with some wood, so it feels like those boat extensions that sit in the water, and so I can use it to sit on as well. Looked around here, but didn't much just yet. Can anyone here point me to the right direction? Or does anyone here has some good tips? Or things to take in account? I'll do a report of the whole build here. Thank you so much! Stijn
  12. Hi Everyone, I brought my Toyota Sunrader to Toy Connection in Santa Clara about three weeks ago to repair and after all that time they still didn't have time to repair it... So I had enough of waiting and wanna take it somewhere else. Apparently the main seal of my transmission is leaking and needs to be replaced. Doesn't seem like the hardest job. Does anyone of you know a good and reliable mechanic, the closer to San Francisco, the better... Thanks so much!
  13. Hi Everyone, Staring this topic because I can't find the right information on the forum. Probably buried somewhere... forgive me So I would like to know how feasible it is to convert a 2wd Sunrader into a 4wd one. Is it worth doing? And what would be an estimated rough cost of such a conversion. Secondly if not feasible. Are there ways to make the Sunrader more offroad worthy? Higher clearance, better tyres, etc. Going down to Baja for 3 weeks and it will be the first of many trips down south. So being able to take unpaved roads, reach remote beaches, etc would be very very convenient. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Stijn
  14. Snail powered, bought these as well at Lowes for a dollar a piece and it does the trick! Thanks everyone for the tips!
  15. Thanks Derek! Do you have by any chance a picture of how you installed these? If not I can figure it out. S
  16. Hey Everyone, I've noticed that it's very easy to slide open the side windows of my Sunrader from the outside. So i'm looking into ways to fix this. My first thought was to create a custom little wooden stick to put in the trench where the window slides in. So it would keep the window closed when someone tries to slide it open from the outside. But the windows have round corners so that might not work. Before I try it out... Does someone have a solution for this? I wanna keep my Sunrader as closed as possible.... Thanks! Stijn
  17. Hosing out of the window is a good solution. I might try that out for now. I think the PVC Solar tube shower would be great if you are out in the dessert during a week or more. With no way to refill your onboard water. So you have an extra source of fresh, warm water. Would the extra weight on top of your roof be problematic? Thx Linda. S
  18. I'm planning on using it in the desert mainly. Not in US campsites. And also to clean off beach related stuff, sandy legs, wetsuits, etc. Going to Baja in 2 months for two weeks. And the ultimate goal is to leave for a trip down to Patagonia in about a year/year and a half.
  19. Hi everyone! I did some digging on the forum but I couldn't find anything about a roof solar shower. I'm planning on making one this week/weekend and I will post all my pictures here. Does anyone have one of these on his Sunrader? I have a Shorty and would like to get some information on how big I want to make it and where to place/or attach it to on my roof. Planning on using this explanation on how to make it: http://wheresmyofficenow.com/solar-heated-pressurized-shower/ Thx! Stijn
  20. Hi Payaso, Looking into Bajanomad.com! Seems like a very good resource. I've been to Baja before when I was doing a motorcycle trip in 2006. Young and reckless on a KLR650, which was a lot of fun!. I wanna go back to Bahia De Los Angeles, because it holds great memories. I did a part of the Baja 1000 from there, which was the highlight of the whole trip. I'm also planning to go to San Ignacio lagoon to see the grey whales, and I hope to swim with the whale sharks in Bahia De Los Angeles. Mulege is also on my list. If you have good tips... let me know! Cheers, Stijn
  21. Hi Everyone! I'm Stijn and a fresh new member to this forum. I'm a Belgian national living in California and since a week or so a very proud owner of a 85' Toyota Sunrader Shorty, bought from a very nice man by the name of Keith. This first post of mine has two purposes. First of all my introduction! Glad to see such a busy forum about these great campers and an incredible source of information. Secondly this will be my first trip report of a trip down to Baja starting in San Francisco. I will be spending 2 weeks out there with my wife, mostly boondocking, camping and planning to do some whale trips. I'll post a route and list of things we are going to see/do over the next few weeks. We are leaving on the 8th of April. This leaves me some time to prep the Sunrader for it's first real test. Took the Sunrader out on a trip along the coast to Point Reyes last weekend, so here are some pictures! Going down to Santa Cruz, so more pictures will follow. I'm planning on doing a lot trips, probably a lot down south so I'm also going to do a lot of work to the Sunrader and thus relying on this forum. First things on my list: - Fixing the transmission leak - Solar panels - Outdoor PVC pipe shower - And making the Sunrader our little home on the road Nice to meet you all! Stijn
