  1. Combine the suspect Chinese tires with a lack of maintanance and it is a sure recipt for problems! As auto and tire technology have progressed over the years it is easy to become complacent on maintenence. Still curious does anyone know what tires came on the 90's Toyotas? Were they dual axle from the factory? JIm
  2. It will be interesting to see how it holds up. JIm SW FL
  3. Thanks for all the input and information, greatly appreciated. The money, time and aggravation saved was a big plus. JIm SW FL
  4. Several years ago I wanted to do a fast and cheap job on my motorhome wheels. I am not a fan of rattle cans but going the fast and cheap route I purchased this paint at Wallys. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Color-Place-Rust-Control-Spray-Enamel-11-oz-Gloss-White/19535850 I was impressed with it, it looked good for several years. It did not need a primer. It is a soft paint so scuffed easy, any time a tire was changed I sprayed the nuts again. I do not know what color it comes in? HTH JIm SW FL
  5. Great job, look's like it was well thought out and executed. Thanks for documenting it with photo's. JIm SW FL
  6. Thanks Vermonter I prefer to deal locally but of three places I could only get 1 price! $136 for a hankook, mounted and balanced. Two of the places I called were not sure what a 185R 14 was. My friend suspects they are high speed trailer tires? Anyone know what size came on these originally? So went with tire-easy.com I bought seven as most of the tires on mine are 14 years old except 2 Kumos that are from 2008. Nothing I would trust for a spare. I do not mind buying cheap tires as these will sit and rot, more than being driven on. Goform G325 R14C D/ $ 45.30 7 $ 317.10 Subtotal 7 $ 317.10 Shipping and Handling within 33917 $ 79.63 Total $ 396.73
  7. OH oh, the dually on a 94 is different? On the ones I have dealt with the outer dually is a regular wheel on the vehicle turned inside out?? Tire was shredded, would have done much damage. Part was welded to frame on one end. Thanks for the responses JIm
  8. Loaded up the truck with tools and called in a favor from a friend for the 3 1/2 hour drive to Ocala Fl to pick up the Seabreeze. Cold front coming in and the weather was cold windy and rainy, not the type of day to pick up an unknown vehicle for a 200 mile drive. Was able to top off a few of the tires until the sellers air chuck broke. Then had to proceed a few miles to fully air up all the tires. I don't like driving on these tires, they look good but are old, around 2002 DOT date. We get going and I am unable to drive over 58 due to a vibration that starts there, plus it is very windy out, so am white knuckling it. 10 miles from home and I get one of those, "whats that feeling", a flat maybe?? I am looking for a place to pull over and blam! accompanied by lots of noise. Inside passenger side rear dual shreds. Am I glad I made a point to sign up for CoachNet yesterday. The road service guy shows up and his first question is do you have any experience changing duals, just my luck a new guy. I can change a dual, we have trouble jacking it, but manage to change tire and spare is OK. I am pulling out and get about 20 feet and realize something is wrong. Stop and look with the new guy and a brace of some kind was ripped loose and is between the inner tire and spring, with a big screw almost against the tire! No damage done and we get it out, can't believe he missed that? Nothing seems to be falling off so I guess it is OK to leave. As I get going I notice most of the vibration is gone. Glad I had the premonition to get Emergency Road Service. This is the condensed version, there is the dying cellphone battery, no flashlight, ERS sent to wrong location, ERS miscommunication and on and on. But don't want to bore anyone. JIm
  9. I called the one in Homassasa (Ocala) Enjoyed talking with the man. There is nothing else on the market that interests me so took a ride up. 94 Seabreeze 6 cyl auto The cab and MH body are in great condition, I suspect that the sealer around the roof items is original, but no leaks. Must have been kept under cover. The inside was remodled, some of it is well done and some needs redoing. Some things were not finished, there is no genset. I will replace the tires, they look good but are old. Some things do not work, some are not hooked up. Runs and shifts good for a 100,000 mi veicle. We agreed on a price of $5500, he had just bought the vehicle a short while ago and I suspect he paid $5500 for it? He bought it but decided it was too much work for him. Best part was the couple, both about 80 and full of life, Looking forward to their 60th wedding aniversary. Will post a couple pictures when I get it home. Thanks for the help and input JIm
  10. The one in Venice is a standard shift, trying to find an automatic. The one in Hommasasa is on my Radar, is three hour drive, hoping to combine it with another to make it worth while. Thanks for the input, always greatly appreciated. Jim SW Florida
  11. Thanks, My hip and shoulder are partial to an automatic. The 4 cyl with auto appears to be under powered. So limits my search to some 89's and up. Of course Venice is a short jaunt and all the 90+ ones are on the other end of the state! Jim SW Florida
  12. I was going to look at a 94 in Bushnell Fl asking $7000, but it has been sold. Anyone look at it or buy it? Jim
  13. Thanks for the response. I have no idea where to put them? Wondering if anyone had done it? One of the 3 I have been looking at has sold and not many more coming on the market. Jim SW Florida
  14. Hey Bill I'm down here in Ft Myers looking for a 90+. Maybe we can be of benefit to each other? I do not know alot about them, so can only tell you what I have seen so far. Look inside for water damage. If the roof was not cared for, maybe other maintanence was not done? Look along the sides for bubbles in skin, not tiny minute bubbles but larger areas that indicate the skin is loose and will need repair. I looked at one in Tampa, claimed new roof air, tires and brakes. The roof air is newer, not new. The tires have lots of thread but are 6 years old and weather checked, need replacing. If they stretched the truth about tires, what else are they wrong about? Or lying? Google DOT dates for tires and check the dates when looking. For me anything over 7 years old needs replacing now! Trailer hitch, talking with lady who said she flea markets all over when she travels, big heavy duty trailer hitch and too big a trailer to be towed with one of these sitting in yard. Lot's of wear and tear, I'll skip that one. Unplated vehicle, I am not buying anything I cannot drive and I am not risking driving an uninsured, unplated vehicle, but that is just me. They want to sell something for thousands of dollars, let em put plates and insurance on it. Generator won't start or runs badly, just needs carburetor cleaned. Another sign of lack of maintenance or neglect. Maybe $50 to repair, maybe $500, likely genset is junk and needs replaced. Inside step everyplace, look for soft spots in floor, repairable but big job. Take a large cloth or cardboard and crawl around underneath, looking for damage, rot or rust. With Vin # you can check title in FL https://services.flhsmv.gov/MVCheckWeb/, not much info but maybe uncover some discrepancies Also https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck, these two are free, before signing on the dotted line use a paid service for full disclosure. Year discrepancy, 1990 vehicle, camper body added in 91 and they say it's a 92. Long story, I'll spare you the details. It's whatever the title says it is, not what they think it is. Until you are looking for parts then it's a 90 for the vehicle. Lot's of things to check, read the forums and see what people are fixing, good indication of what to look for. JIm SW Florida.
  15. Thanks for having a great forum. My name is Jim and I am from SW Florida, 66 and retired. I have been looking for a 6 Cyl auto Toyota. I am not afraid of some work, but hope to find something in decent shape. I full timed for 10 years and built a bus conversion so know a little about RV's Hoping there are others who may be in Florida looking for one and maybe we can help each other? It is not fun driving long distances to find something not as described! I would be happy to look at anything in this area, but maybe a conflict of interest : ) First question, keeping in mind that I have only looked at a few of these. I do not like the jacknife sofa. Could this be removed and 2 bucket type seats installed. I see the fresh water pump and holding tank in there, has anyone moved them?? 2nd, 3 of these I have looked at the owner has told me they have someone flying in from up north who is very interested, 2 were coming from Wisconsin and one from Chicago, is this common? All three units are still for sale. Thanks Jim
