  1. The cabin battery has a three position switch. One is off one is battery, and the third is for ? And when should it be on. Is that to charge the battery while I drive? should I also have it on when I am plugged in and parked. Vehicle runs great I just don't want to screw anything up. I have the older 3 stage fridge manual should anybody need info
  2. Thanks ya baby. In my mind I was thinking the convertor was 120 like the one I plug into my cigar lighter
  3. So if I want to use the coach lights, fridge water pump I set the white switch to battery If I want to plug my laptop into the converter I set the switch on converter Driving the fridge is running on propane and amonia so I set it to off Is that about correct. Yes I have the idea on how the isolator works and charges the coach One more thing where should I check out a good place to pick up a converter.
  4. Sounds like a wise investment and a no brainer. And if the one I have fails I will replace it. I am more concerned with the operation of the one that is in the Chinook now. Can I assume that while I drive I set it to conv so it charges the coach battery. when I stop I put it on the other position to run the coach lights. and water pump for the sink and fridge. The fridge is another thing. I found the settings now I have to figure out how to fire it up with the propane while standing still. At least the fridge came with a manual it must have been replaced along the line. thanks bob
  5. on my 1978 Toyota Chinook Newport I have the converter but I have no idea about the settings. I have the white switch and to the left it looks like it had 2 reostat type switches. The type that you twist( the plastic part that sticks out is broken off on both ) Can anyone help me out with when its set properly. The white switch has three positions one in the middle is off. It's the other two settings I have no idea how they should be set why and when. And what position does it have to be in to recharge as I am driving. I just put in two new batteries one deep cell and one to start the MH. Oh, and a new isolator as with the old one my generator light would not go out. I am getting like 14 amps at the battery and isolator so I think I am ok with that. Or if anyone knows of a guide for the converter. thanx all
  6. Thanks all, i saw that conversion today. Budget is a concern.. I am currently driving from Guadalajara to Tucson. Based on the number of junk yardsI have seen filled with toyota's I think finding a spare should be no problem. . I am seeing that the demand is pretty high. But I will keep that conversion in mind. The one I saw was a bit more expensive. I do have a strong feeling i should be able to find one. Actually I am sure. Mexico is a Toyota's used parts seekers dream. If shipping wasn't so damn expensive out of the country i could make a business of it. thanks ya baby
  7. THANX all. Now that I think back I was working for Toyota in the late 70's as a Service Mgr and never replaced one. I think it was suggested because he knows my intent is to park on the beach in different areas and travel the country. I have been here 6 years and its not the states anything I order will take a month to arrive.I am sure he was suggesting I keep my eye on e bay which I have. And the newbis in Mexico is right tons of mechanics and tons of Toyota at the Yunk. That's what they are called. the junk yards are full of Toyota's. I will still keep checking for a used coil and ignitor. I have been looking for them by 78 Toyota Hi Lux. One more thing. The part # has it changed Should I use the part # off the ND model in the truck or go buy description Zack I see you have one is that a correct Robert
  8. My 78 Chinook Newport 20R is now road worthy well after I get that deep cycle battery for the rear. It was suggested I pick up a ignitor and put it in with my spare traveling parts as I will be away for a while. I am finding this not to be such an easy task. Anyone have any suggestion as where to look. Aftermarket? Checked e bay and the part numbers don't match mine. If any one can help I will have a no worry travel plan to Mexico.
  9. Right on the money it was under the passengers side bench in a black plastic box floppin around. thanx
  10. I am the new guy and could use a bit of help. I feel like a dope as an ex service mgr. And I worked for Toyota. Just auto's though. I just bought a 78 Chinook Newport. 41,000 miles. Has the right rear dutch door for identification. It's in the shop in the states being checked out before I venture into Mexico where I am now. Does the coach have a battery I was under the impression it was under the bench seat drivers side. Or is it possible that the vehicle was only equipped with 1 battery. Also the battery was dead. Really dead, I had disconected the activator because the alternator light was on. Any help would help robert
