Turns out my leak is the head gasket. I'm to decide what to do, fix it, or get rid of it. The quote to do the repair is $2500 give or take. That's to do both sides including machining the heads and the timing belt / water pump while in there. The price that surprised me was the head set, $500. The timing belt kit was pretty cheap. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced b4 heading to FLA in the winter. Oil leak was solved. Noticed small drips on way home, now a bigger problem. Leak is at the back of the motor. Ideas? I moved the camper only a few feet forward the other day and it only ran 20s or so, seemed to barf some oil in that short time. Thanks in advance. Kahuna in Kanada

Before I headed to florida I had some work done on my 89 3.0. New brakes, new belts, new fuel sending unit and new valve cover gaskets. I had a leak coming from the drivers side valve cover that was fixed with the new gasket. I now have a very minor leak that appears to be coming from the front of the motor. So minor that in 5400km I didn't need to add oil. Any idea where I might start the search? Kahuna

Geez seems like overkill to me.

I took mine to a good shop that specializes in exhaust stuff. Both sides were leaking. While in there I had them replace everything. I sourced the parts to save a bit of $. New studs and nuts right from toyota. New gaskets, and one new manifold. Only one side is still available new, the other side I found at a toyota dismantler in Oregon ( I think). I took the used manifold to a machine shop and had it planed. It was a HUGE job. I'm pretty sure if I went back with another one, they'd send me away. On the upside the truck is dead quiet now, really nice. They did a great job. What causes these manifold / gasket issues? Overheating? Pushing too hard? The mechanic seemed to think the exhaust was too small and needed better flow. Kahuna in Kanada

Wow, I've never heard of that. We don't have rules like that around here. Are the built in gennys on these rigs loud? I had a bounder and that genny was awful. My yamaha 3000 is really quite quiet. Thanks
