  1. So a few hours and a few lengths of timber and everything is solid again. The outside trims screwed up and sealed. New insulation in and bed base in and screwed down which has stiffened it all up. I've done away with the lift out panel over the cab as we always left it in place anyway so made sense. Bit of a tidy up to do then new faced ply to the walls. All told it's been easier than I expected, I thought I would have to take out windows etc but it's all solid from the bottom of the windows up which probably means the windows have been leaking and caused the rot. Will reseal them next fine day we have.

I hope this rebuild may be of use to someone someday.

  2. So what started as investigating the two side walls has now spread to the whole front above the cab, in a way it actually makes the job a little easier. Instead of patching the sides it is going to be much easier to frame up and put a new bed base in which will become part of the structure. All the rot has been removed and ready for new timber tomorrow.

  3. Hi again not been here for a while, a poor summer here in the UK means the camper hasn't been out much at all. So yesterday I decided to investigate a couple of small soft patches in the side walls above the cab, well as you can imagine the job just got bigger and bigger but I'm not too worried a good day should see both sides done.

  4. The bags I got had one bolt on the bottom and two on the top plus the air connection and the originals only had one top and bottom, it was quite easy to adapt. So far they have brought me half way down France in relative comfort and no roll on hairpin bends though they are inflated to 60 psi which seems about right.

  5. Finally found somewhere to get Firestone 9000's in the UK without having to rob a bank first, fitted them yesterday and what a transformation in the ride, it still shakes it still rattles but it rolls beautifully. See what I did there :-))) any one in the UK needs these or any other bags just contact and I'll give you the contact, £160 for a pair with all fittings and new air hose when cheapest I've seen one bag is £125.

  6. Hey Linda still here not been up to much on the dolphin as our winters mean work stops on them in October November and generally start again march time, I have done work inside with the aid of a good fan heater, I have replaced the fridge, and re done the floor covering. Just got back from a 5 day run out in it and can confirm that dolphins will do 80 mph on the motorway though not something I will be repeating too often. Only job planned soon is the airbags being replaced before we venture into France later this summer. Was thinking of coil over air shocks instead of bags, I put them on my 51 chevy and they transformed the ride.

Welcome to piecacake another member of the small uk contingent, we will be chatting no doubt.

  7. You might just be right but the wall is soft at the bottom of the drivers side large window so water has been getting in somewhere and it's not obvious where from but the sealer down the front of the window doesn't look cleaver, it looks like someone at some time has dug it out and put some other sealant in and maybe caused a leak so maybe only that window will come out.

  8. Well I'm back after a few days away in the dolphin, it absolutely poured with rain the whole time but I'm really happy about that, why I hear you all ask............ Well this is the first time it's rained hard since we've had Ethel and I'm happy to report that all my resealing of skylights etc is good no leaks whatsoever so I'm a very happy bunny next job when it's under cover for winter is to take out all the windows and resealing them as it looks like they haven't been done since it was built.

  9. Does anyone know the gas tank capacity for the 1987 / 900 model, the spec sheet says 17 US gallons which converts to 14.5 UK gallons however I can only ever get around £60 in from the needle showing empty which suggests 10 UK gallons or is there a large reserve befor the fuel light comes on, thanks in advance.
