  1. Thanks John. I was hoping to accomplish without replacing the whole back side so I like option #2. I have eterna bond tape but 4 inch I believe, so I may just give that a go. That stuff is pricy so ill use what I have. In some places the existing stuff on the roof is well attached. But in others it's cracking. It's only on part of the roof so I will probably peel it off and do it right. I think it looks sloppy as is. A bit more work than I wanted to do but that's how it goes. Best, P
  2. So I removed the aluminum trim and I am in the process of getting the gunk off. Not easy. Many off the screws were rusted and the wood where they were screwed into has seen better days. Felt moist, tho we have had a lot of rain recently. I am not sure how well the screws will bite into the wood in some places. So trying to figure out what other options I may have. And on the roof it looks like some type of sealer or something was put down. I am in the process of removing some of it to get at the trim up top. I may just remove all of it if I can. I have most everything I think. Butyl tape, new vinyl trim, lap sealant, 3m marine adhesive, eterna bond tape. Anything else? I have the maxx air vents as well. Opinions welcome, Patrick
  3. Thanks for the link. Looks like a useful site. P
  4. Going to replace some of the rusted screws under the screw cover, and some other places. Looks like they are 8x1 inch hex head. I have seen some for sale on flea bay, but like a pack of 3-4 hundred. Went by lowes and they had the right length but the diameter looked small. Probably will hit Home Depot but thought I would ask if anyone knows a source. Cheers, Patrick
  5. Kim, I have not yet. I live in my rig part time while I work, so If I screw something up or it takes a few days, there goes my temp home. I'll be finished end of July so I may give it a go early this fall. I ended up putting some epoxy around the drain bolt and that stopped the drip, figure that bolt is not going anywhere now, so ill prob end up buying a new pan and drain bolt. I'll make sure to post a follow up, whether I have success or take the drive/walk of shame to the dealer. Best, P
  6. The pan is not off. I tried to remove two of the bolts that connect the pan to the transmission and the head came off in the socket and threaded part, or part of it remains in the hole. I do want to get the pan off but I can't afford to shear off any more bolts at this point. Idk what I did, if anything, to cause that. You are right, should not be that hard, but it is at the moment.
  7. I hear you. I went by a transmission place and they said it must have stripped because the drain bolt had been removed so often, but when I drained it two weeks ago the fluid looked like it had never been changed. But it is an 86, so an old bolt. Who knows. Frustrating.
  8. The bolt that is sheared is the one that attaches the pan to the AT. i think i had the socket attached at an angle. not sure what else i may have done. The drain bolt is loose enough where it drips slowly. Not sure what is hanging it up, I guess it is stripped. May try and give a go tomorrow. I am resigned to the fact I prob need a new pan, which I can get for 78.00, toyota oem. But then there is the bolt issue. Really would like to avoid taking it to a shop.
  9. Like the title says. I did a drain and fill two weeks ago and doing another because the color was awful. So I go to pull the plug and it won't come out. Will not tighten either. So now I have a slow drip and can't stop it. To further complicate things I thought I would drop the pan. Went I went to remove the bolts that hold the pan, the end sheared off as the rest of the bolt came out. Wonderful. Anyways not sure what to do. Or what I even can do. Thought I would ask and see if anyone has been in the same conundrum. Cause I am in one. Patrick
  10. Hey Tim, Pretty cool. I used to live in AK. Got into pack rafting, went out a few times with big and litttle Roman. Have your excellent book on WW runs up there. Small world that you would be on here. I live in NM now and spend two weeks out of the month in my Odyssey while I work. Keep it up. Aside from winter, for me anyways, AK is perfect for what you are doing. Best, Patrick
  11. Thanks for the info. I think I read a couple of posts of your where you were doing the same thing, but needed new siding. Anways I will plan on giving it a go soon. Best, P
  12. All, As you may be able to see the trim is coming off on one side and I want to redo it, the other side is ok but looks sloppy. The last photo I included because the fiberglass near the bumper and in a couple other spots is not attached to the wood underneath, not sure if that is normal or if I need to bond it together. Not sure how I would even get under there unless I took the whole fiberglass back off. So for the siding I need to remove it and then use butyl tape and some caulk? Many types of caulk and think I may go OSI. Just wanted some recommendations from those who have done this. Best, Patrick
  13. Correct you are, putty tape. Thanks for the input, I will get the butyl for the windows, vents and dicor for the roof. P
  14. I was thinking about resealing the windows, vent, awning above the door, and it looks like either can be used. Just wanted to get folks preference. Best, Patrick
  15. Turns out it was the GFI in the bathroom. I hit reset and all was good. Must have tripped along with the breaker when I flipped the fridge to electric. Even though I don't think running the heater was the cause, I will be much more mindful about running appliances, heaters etc. I admit I am still learning much about my "home". Appreciate all the help. Great forum. Once I get the RV back home I plan on doing a lot with the interior and under the hood. Great info on this site. Best, Patrick
  16. Well it is a GFI outlet in the bathroom. So I guess I will have to hit the reset button and then see what happens. I am at work now but will check when I get back to the rig. I took the panel off the circuit breaker and it looked fine. So if one outlet works and the other two don't then what could be the problem or solution? I know it is hard to tell me over the internet, I work in healthcare and it is like a patient who want's advice over the phone and dosen't want to be examined. Patrick
  17. Now the charge sentinel is off, doesn't blink like before and when I hear a humming noise when the 15amp breaker is on, goes off when I flip it too off. Now I am paranoid!!!!! Not sure what's going on. I don't think I have been over using the outlets but who knows.
  18. John, I have an 87 odyssey. Last night when the breaker was triggered it was the circuit breaker beneath my couch. So I guess I need to remove this and take a look.
  19. Well I had a heater running in the middle of the night, but from a different outlet, which still works. Last night I had nothing running off those outlets. Normally I used one of them for a rice cooker, but rarely used simultaneously. The other outlet I wasn't even using but I plugged something in to see if it works and it doesn't. That's what I don't get, I wake up this morning and two don't work.
  20. I am plugged into shore. I did check the circuit breaker and it was fine. Other than it tripped last night. But this morning no problem.
  21. So I get up this morning and two of my outlets in the kitchen no longer work. I think the last time I used one of them was yesterday morning. So now I am down to one in the "living room" . The only thing I can think that happened is that I turned the fridge to elec and it caused the circuit breaker to activate. The previous owner mentioned that the fridge did this when running on electric. Anyway not sure if that has anything to do with it. I would add the lights in the kitchen work as well. Appreciate any help about the outlets and even the fridge issues. I am paranoid that my other outlet will go and then I'm screwed. Currently living in my rig as I work. Best, Patrick
  22. Ha, ha. I have a newer 4runner as well and I look forward to a simpler engine. Ill take a look at the links. Thanks, P
  23. Hello All, Purchased an 87 Odyssey a couple weeks ago here in NM. 4cy auto 22re. 36k and change original miles. It is in good shape but not much of a maintenance history. So I figure it will need to have stuff replaced based on age. I figure I can do the oil, planning on synthetic, and maybe some of the other stuff like hoses, belts. Can anyone recommend a manual, or a how to? Also what would you replace? Just trying to see what I can do myself and leave bigger jobs like greasing and repacking the axle bearings to someone else. Warm regards, Patrick
