  1. YAY! It works!! Now then....hoping the thermostat is the ONLY reason there is no heat in the cab and that she'll smog~then everything will be in working order as far as I can see.
  2. jdmaris, Thank you for being so kind, what a wonderful experience to share with your little one, great pics! Sure they can be a pain for the pooches, and those pesky groundhogs can do some serious damage to your garage/shed/smokehouse, ect.~ but they too deserve the kindness you are shown. Thanks for sharing! We too had to relocate critters on a regular basis...mostly raccoons and rats. The trick is to take them far enough away... ~oh and Derek...If the puppers get into porky again-Cut the ends off the quills with a real sharp pair of scissor~they come out much easier....
  3. sorry to confuse you, I was talking about this: Not the same thing you were getting at, but my version anyway! http://www.instructables.com/id/Portable-12V-Air-Conditioner---Cheap-and-easy!/
  4. Interesting article Jdemaris...I've seen these kind of evaporative coolers. They can actually be made very cheaply (about $35) from an ice chest filled with ice or dry ice, and a simple set of duel fans. Plugs into a cigarette lighter. I actually prefer an evap system or swamp cooler to AC... which is how we )cool our yurt down in this Northern Cali heat. Works best in dry heat though, (which is the only kind of heat that i want to be in anyway! I don't plan on using it much if at all on the road where I'll be hanging out. a simple fan to drown out truckers occasionally perhaps, but I'll be thankful to know my system and how it all works. Bob-that's what I needed to know. With something that big, I assumed it might need it's own power. The sun is out nice and bright today so I'll have full batteries by noon so I'll know more this afternoon.
  5. no no, i just meant that I had it plugged into our house electric, which is generated by solar, but not sure how full those batteries were at that time and if that made a dif. I'll try a direct connect with the generator next and see what that does..
  6. that's a very good question, Derek...I've got it plugged into our power supply, but...we do have solar elec, and I'm not totally sure where the amps are at the moment. hmmmmm might just be the problem
  7. Ok so now we move on to the air conditioner...The guy told me it works, so I didn't bother to check it, but after turning it on to try it out, there is absolutely nothing~no sound coming from it at all. Is there some main switch somewhere that i should be looking for, or, a a plug in or...? It's a coleman btw.
  8. It turns out that I wasn't waiting long enough for it to light is all...It's been so long since that I've had to light one! I do like to bake bread and goodies so this is great news...I'll be taking my solar sun oven, but this will cover me on those cloudy days. I happily pulled out the micro as I don't use it, but was thinking I'd have to put in a convection oven, but now that's another solved problem.. Thanks Again all of you.
  9. I cannot seem to get my oven to light. When turned to pilot and pressing in, it ignites ok, but will not ignite the big bar...any ideas? It's a Wedgewood. Oh, and the burners all work.
  10. yeah, thanks Riverman.. my grandfather turned me on to tsp many years ago and glad to see it's still around. Most of the good old basics are best for nearly everything~washing soda, fels naptha, vinegar, baking soda, peroxide..... Washing soda even removes paint! Amazing how these basics are all we really need to clean almost anything and everything!
  11. Waiter is right, Dolpinite, that paint job is amaaazing, but your wife also did a dynamite job, Waiter. Interior pictures are especially helpful and it's so wonderful to see what you have all done with your Toys... Prepping and painting is not an easy task, I re-did a Queen Ann in another life and have painted almost every room in every house I've lived in, BUT, Motorhomes and plasticky walls are tricky. I'm going to return the product I got from Lowes and follow your advice with the liq sand and Kilz. Tried and true. ~Journal in hand I will document, post and share. You folks are wonderful here, thanks for all your support! ~PixieChick
  12. Thanks Folks. Exactly what I wanted to hear~no sanding, just prime well. I had gotten a 'bonding primer' at Lowes that's specifically for high gloss surfaces. It's their Velspar brand, so hope it's sufficient. Not sure what I want to do, but this is a start. Thanks again and I really appreciated the pictures, Waiter-you created a nice clean, updated look. Will be posting again soon. Thanks so much for being here! PixieChick 87 Odyssey thistledowngreenhouse.com
