  2. Sounds good. Yeah you stole that thing. You asked for a pic of my platform on my Tiger. I'm using an old computer that won't sinc with my camera. If you PM me a cell phone number I will send a pic that way. Going to be under the darn thing all day anyway servicing the differential.

The ad said "owen generator" not sure if a lot of people noticed that or did not recognize picture

I know it was only posted for a couple days and I jumped on it.. He was asking only $600.

The guy was real pleased with what he got in return so it was a win win for the both of us...

  3. 2K IS A GOOD $

be ready to do a lot of work sounds like last owners did not do any up keep..

these rv are 20+ years old..

I would try every thing out including plumbing..(if water pump keeps running after it has water in lines then yes you have a leak somewhere if it shuts off after it's pressurized you should be ok.....

have him turn on fridge hours before you look at rv to make sure its works..

also have him turn on a/c heater & water heater.... If more then one does not work you might want to look for another rv ..so your not throwing to much money at rv..

look under cab-over mattress for any leaks or water damage on bed frame... look for peeling wall paper.. knock on walls and celling to make sure solid (no rot)and bring a friend to help

  4. My Onan sits on the bumper on my Tiger. Was factory installed there. I have also seen them installed on a couple of other small rv's like the Rialta with the Onan underneath install kit. No box involved. Just sits in the open underneath the frame with only the smallest of doors for access to the starter button and fuses. Might have been some shielding between the coach and the install but nothing I could see.

how do they support it on bumper?

  5. how did you build yours FRED? what your measurements ?

Mine sits on the back platform deck, so no problem with air.

Your fan sits on the left of the unit. The under cover area has foam insulating strips that seal the unit to allow cooling air to stay inside. Be sure these are correctly positioned when you put the top back on.

primary air intake is on the left front of the unit and appears as a vertical grill. You also have a smaller two hole opening directly below this grill. These must be open for good airflow. Be sure your access plate is also securely fastened as this helps to keep cool air inside.

My personal opinion is to leave as much open space as you can around the unit.

The bottom clearance is also important. There are holes drilled in it to allow the heated air to escape.

The back might be a good spot...will keep that as a option...

That insulating foam from Home Depot will dissolve if gasoline gets on it.

You can very likely use the products they make for insulating the firewalls on the engine compartments of cars. That will be easy to find at the auto parts stores. It will also be sound dampening. Because it will have a metal foil surface it will reflect the radiant heat which makes for pretty good insulation. Big advantage it does not take up as much space!

You could/should line your compartment with sheet metal for added fire protection. Just like having a steel door between your house and the garage, every little bit of extra time to grab that fire extinguisher helps. They make fire stop caulking and spray foam, you can get it a electrical supply stores. Or you could build your compartment with sheet metal instead of making a plywood box and lining it.

With a metal lined box that has firewall insulation inside the box you could also put the Home Depot foam on the backside of the box facing the motor home interior. That way that foam is not exposed to gasoline or excessive heat.

..will be sheet metal box l!!

  6. yes I will have air intake at the door

also maybe underneath unit..rv already has a air intake underneath witch is closed off right now(thinking this was for a genset. I could be wrong..

Don't forget to leave plenty of room for air circulation. A louvered door by the front is a must do.
    Your genset is air cooled.

spec sheet says I only need 1/2inch for air except 1inch for air flow under unit...

my measurements are 1.5inch or more then specs..

how did you build yours FRED? what your measurements ?

You mean like this stuff that is meant to put in generator and engine compartments? It needs to be fire retardant foam in that location.

thanks Karin very good point we where going to use home depot 1" foam that's we used for cab-over model..

  7. He also said its a turbo..... to me he is just living a pipe dream....yes he thinks its very rare...I tried to tell him he will never get $25000. He just did not want to believe me..keeps telling me its very rare..

is their anything special about 86's???

Well number 1 off the production line would have to be a 1984. Or does he just mean the first one made in 1986. Does he think there are only 3 4x4 Sunraders anywhere. Of course also not true. At least a couple of dozen tooling around and maybe more.

  8. This is what we use, I made it from 5/8" plywood, inside I carry a 20lb propane BBQ tank,(upright) 5 gal jerry can of gas, 2 garden chairs and a small folding BBQ, plus the two bikes hanging on a bike carrier attached to the box lid.

My son welded up anattachicon.gifP1030953.jpg angle iron frame that is bolted to the frame extensions underneath the rear of the coach, so far it as stayed together doing three trips down to the bottom of Baja Mexico and back, over rough roads Topes an all! Hope to be leaving in early January on our fourth trip south.

Wouldn't want to be in a bad rearender with this set up, but I do drive accordingly knowing the risk of one! having said that the fixed propane tank on our rig is situated just behind the driver and low down, so wouldn't want to be T-boned on the drivers side either!

Driving in Mexico I do like to have the extra gas and propane on hand, and hate carrying them inside the coach.

    Mike

    great job on box!!!!
