  1. your email address bounced back to me. I'll take $350 for it if you will take it w/out the title and can do it before the end of the month. Also i should mention that you SHOULD be able to drive this off the storage lot, we drove it from denver to where it now sits 2 years ago, so with a jump and some starting fluid, I would think you could make it run.
  2. Don't worry, I'm harder to insult than that, and I get where you are coming from. It is titled in my son's name, title is lost, paperwork is in progress to get a new title in my name since he is out of state and wants to turn it over to me. The truck actually ran well enough to drive cross country before parked, he had just travelled around the southwest states in it. The carb needed adjusting or replacing though. My biggest issue with it is the trashed interior and cracked shell. Overall it's been worked over pretty good. As of now, I am thinking if I don't get $500 out of it, I will make it a 4 wheeler with a custom sleeper cell on the back. I am a junkyard hound and I still see old toyotas around here quite a bit. the 4WD conversion looks pretty doable, any insite into that would be apreciated, as I am new to toyotas. That said, I'll keep you in mind if I don't get $5 bills for it and I lose my inspiration. Maybe you could text me your contact info in case of just such an event. Thanks for looking! PS where in NY? I grew up near Albany.
  3. couple things I should add, It's a four speed rear wheel drive, 20R engine.
  4. This chinook is a 77, 78 or 79, I can't quite remember, I'll bet you guys can tell from the pics. It's in a storage lot in longmont, CO, I want to get it out by the end of January, The good- only 93k miles on the original engine, ran okay when parked 2 years ago, did have some carb issues. Also no serious rust, I think a Colorado truck from the get-go. The bad- interior is trashed, furnace is gone, the converter is trashed, fridge and stove and sink are there, not sure of working condition on them. Shell has some good damage too. $500 and she is yours, any less than that I'll make some sort of project out of it myself. If interested post here or call me 303 990 0385 John
  5. that's a neat ford by the way. Some more questions- Did i get that right that it is a 1/2 frame under the chinook? without that rear-most extention, is the remaining frame the same thing as any toyota 1/2 ton PU? Also the carb is bad on this thing, what make is the OEM carb (My Chinook is in storage 20 minutes away so I can't just go look), and do you guys put aftermarket carbs on these for better reliability? I play around with old Subarus, and one of the first things I always do is replae the stock Hitachi carb with a weber 32/36. they run great and are very tunable, don't break either, they have half as many parts. That same carb would probably fit nicely on a 2 liter engine.
  6. I understand that anything can be fixed and theese campers are rare. The camper is totally trashed, and in my estimation not worth repair. That leaves a decent truck with lots of potential. Believe me, i am the type to salvage anything possible. I would sell or give away anything usable. The shell and interior of this thing are BEAT. So if I could find another camper shell,I would put it on this truck. I think these campers are very cool. Is there a good sourse for a replacement shell that you could pass on to me? If I can't find that, I will see what I can make with a good chassis, and it seems like an excellent candidate for a 4 wheeler. I really like the idea of a sleeper cell. Didn't mean to offend, I understand where you are coming from. Another question- How heavy are the shells?
  7. Scored a 79 chinook "gazelle" with I think 125k on a 20R. The camper is pretty well trashed, so I was thinking of ripping it off and building a four wheeler. As I understand it, these are the 1/2 ton frame, I looked under it and it looks like he frame extends about 2+ feet past the rear axel and then there is an extention. Anybody ever tear this down to the frame? I was thinking since the cab has no back, I could build a sleeper cell unto the back of it, and chop the frame right behind where the leaf springs bolt up. OR..... are there other camper options for the back of these things? Can you find the camper portions in good shape and swap them out? I see these show up at junkyards from time to time but they are always trashed. Anyone done the 4wd swap on one of these? Can you tell me what doner vehices to look for? recomend a forum that could help? Thanks.
