  1. theres nuthin scarier than going up a steep rough road at night w a motorhome

only to realize its gettin too steep for the rig and no turnaround.

and you attempt reverse in pitch black with tires skidding and a drop off looming.

    never again

now I scout on foot, every steep rough backroad first --- for a turnaround

its a workout, but well worth it versus a destroyed rig

  2. I thought it was front end but realize the knocking sound I am hearing

is coming from deepunder just between the 2 front seats.

Is the driveline joint the possible culprit?

There is a connecting joint just where the 2 drive lines meet there.

A deep knocking comes and goes but clearly in sync with wheel revolution.

    Not wheel bearings.tires good/balanced.

    ANy suggestions?

    Thanks

  3. Does your rig have tie rods? They can knock if they are worn.

good call . i m starting to suspect that now. the front tie rods absorb a lot of weight, especially descending. i m always on rough forest roads, and stuff. thanks for everyone s suggestions.

    Loose lug nuts?

A bad bearing I'd describe more a 'grumble' or a 'growl', not a 'knock'.

Does the noise change when going around a curve?quote

No change in noise when turning, its only a high rpm event(the noise)> its a deep, yet faint knock. Nothing in tires or nothing stuck on belt or anything.

  5. got knocking (very slight) but gets louder at higher speeds yet is still faint

appears ..to be coming from right front end

i feel maybe swear wheel bearing sloowly goin

    but i m no expert

handles real nice, no performance issues

    any ideas/

    thanks

  7. thanks for help

they appear to be sealed and running very smoothly no noise whatsoever

i bought truck 50K ago and havent replaced em

they fell off on my old Chevy truck and just trying to avoid that scary moment again

is there any way to test if they are in proper working condition? any suggestions? thanks

can be eather way check them frozen joints can damage the diff bearings. check them to see if they have g rese fittings. even if they can be lubed and no one did they are probly junk. if they are sealed YOU CAN REPLACE THEM WITH GREASABLE ONES i would not install anything else. ANY NOISE AT ALL I AM SHURE THEY ARE JUNK and DANGEROUS BAD JOINTS CAN COME APART IS THERE A THIRD CENTER U JOINT CHANGE ALL THREE

  8. I was in the exact situation. what s the point of camping with ac power next to someone else?

    i do that at home!

i threw away the AC and cleaned up the edges of the opening and caulked in a $ 4 plexiglass .

    theres my skylight

    works great cheap fix

i put a roll up shade on it for summers when the sun bakes through & i m good to go

Is there a company out there that makes a skylight that fits the AC opening? I mostly travel in the northwest so i don't really need AC. Also, I am always dry camping which makes the unit worthless. It would be really nice to lose all that extra weight and gain some headroom!
