  1. I bought a 1991 Itasca Spirit last year and the one thing that has been bothering me is how can the GVWR be only 6000#. I thought this seemed a little light for what I perceived would be the actual weight of this rig empty. To quell my curiosity I had my vehicle weighed at a certified scale, yesterday, while it was unloaded and tanks empty except gas and LP tank. It weighed in at 6200# (including me). How can the GVWR and the actual weight be the same? I thought the actual weight would be somewhat lower than the GVWR to allow for people and cargo. I'm supposed to be taking my family on our first trip together this week in this. Figuring total weight of the 4 of us, luggage, full water, gas and LP gas tank, etc. and I figure we'll adding almost another thousand pounds or a thousand pounds in excess of of GVWR. It does have the upgraded rear axle and it has 105k miles on the odometer. Should I be concerned or is this vehicle rating been lowballed? Insights appreciated.
  2. Thanks, but I was thinking no holes needed if someone sold a good stick-on light and wire mold just thick enough to run 16 gauge lamp cord through. I agree, no desire to compromise the integrity of the new roof with any more holes then absolutely necessary. I believe I may have found what I'm looking for to do this job. Found stick-on items online. Thanks anyway.
  3. I just bought a 1991 Itasca Spirit that is in very good condition exterior wise. My problem is this .......one of the prior owners replaced the roof which is in great shape however when they did they neglected to replace the front and rear upper clearance lights with working ones. They stuck orange and red reflector covers on the outside in their place. Being a new owner I wasn't aware this would be a needed item required for Pa. inspection. Guess what, it is. Looking at this it seems the only way to get at the chassis wiring for the lights would require pulling away an inside panel to see if the wiring is still even there. Not something I want to do. I'm not licked, yet, though. I was thinking that there may be some kind of stick on wire molding and lights that I could tie into a side marker or license plate lamp wiring. Anyone heard of anything like what I described?
  4. Hi, I'm the new owner of a 1991 Itasca Spirit that I found on Ebay and picked up in Tennessee. It is in exceptionally good shape for its age...... no real rust and roof had been replaced by 2 owners ago. I have a few questions.........1. Wasn't the dinette meant to convert into a bed like other motorhomes and pop-ups? There are no visible signs that there ever were support brackets to support the table in the bed positiion. Is there a kit you can buy? 2. Is there a hidden release mechanism to make it easier to get under the sofa bed to get to things like the water pump which is located between the water tank and the outside wall? 3. Are there any extended warranty service plans for motorhomes with more than 100,000 miles on them? I wanted to sign up with Good Sam but they won't cover one with mileage over 80,000, I believe. Thanks ahead of time for your responses.
  5. Hi, I just a bought a 1991 Itasca Spirit like yours, but it didn't include the original owners operation manual. I assumed (I know, I know) that the dinette would convert into a bed and was a big reason I bought it, but when I tried to do the dinette bed conversion I discovered that the usual wooden slat supports that support the table in the bed position aren't there and show no sign of being there. Does yours convert to a bed? Is there a optional support bracket for these? Also, is there some kind of a release mechanism for the sofa to make it easier to get under it to work on things like the waterpump?
