  1. too bad you don't combine the amp hours with 6 volt batteries! Costco online doesn't show any 6 or 12 volt batteries on their site and I don't have a Costco card now, but I can get access to one. Do you remember what brand, size, and how many amp hours your 6 volt Costco batteries are?
  2. Thats good to know and thanks. I was thinking of getting Trojan T105's which apparently give 225 amp hours each, if I read that correctly, or maybe they meant it was 225 amp hours with two of them?? I guess with six volt you always have to pair them up, right? No odd quantities like three six volt batteries or five? What kind of six volt batteries do you have?
  3. And you know that the thicker wire compensated okay for the longer length to the engine compartment? Its difficult to tell by the photos but how many batteries do you have in the back? Do you still have one in the engine compartment too? It was/is stripped but the bathroom behind the drivers seat is rebuilt so no batteries can go in there and directly across will be a 36" tall cabinet with counter for the sink and stove. The closest forward I can put them is one in the engine compartment and the other two to three either over the rear wheels on top of the wheel wells or just behind the wheel wells. And by vertical you mean to have one battery above the other? Yes that is correct. You might be right about putting them together and the distance but I hope you are wrong. :-) I might use sealed batteries so no vent required. If I go with vented then I'll build a sealed compartment with a small vent to the outside. The vented compartment and all other compartments are long gone. Not possible in my rig and pretty sure thats not possible in factory interior cuz of all the junk inside unless they built a battery compartment forward. I'd like to build a rack under the chassis which is what they did with the Yota 4x4 at www.VanSpecialties.com. They are just aft of the rear axle though but nice to have them totally out of the interior and the weight down low.
  4. And what do you think about putting one of the house batteries in the extra bracket under the hood and the other two to three in the back? Does separating one battery from the others create problems when it comes to wiring them?
  5. Thanks. Thats what I thought but someone on another thread on this forum about axles said to NOT put weight over the rear axle and no one challenged him on it. I read his post in the email notification I got but didn't have time then to respond so let it go. Do you know if its a problem with wiring to put one house battery under the hood (because there is a bracket already there for it) but have the other two to three batteries in the back somewhere?
  6. Where is the best location to put 3 to 4 house batteries (possibly sealed 12 volt Group 29's) if you were starting new with the gutted interior of a 1982 18' Toyota Sunrader? Forget the area behind the drivers seat because thats where I built the new bathroom. I can put one battery under the hood but what about the other 2 to 3 batteries? I'm thinking weight distribution here...if it matters. Thanks P.S. I just asked this same question at the Toyota motorhome Yahoo group too.
  7. Darn, now I wish I had kept the sway bars that were on the donor Sunrader I sold. Has anyone figured out a way to be automatically notified when a merchant is having a sale on Bilstein shocks? Or is there a merchant that sells them that typically has the best prices? I would install them myself.
  8. Hmm, thats a pretty good idea for incorporating a storage box with a bike rack. Thanks for the link Derek and thanks for trying Linda.
  9. I'm starting to get into the electrical stuff with my rebuild and I am a total tard when it comes to anything electrical. I was wondering if anyone knows what size or gauge or kind of wire I should buy and what kind of connectors I should buy? I don't know yet what I'll do when it comes to wiring the DC fridge/freezer but the wiring I'll be needing now is for the following stuff... -LED dome lights -Fantastic Vent Fan -Tail lights Hmmm, I think thats all. Thanks
  10. I recently spoke with two owners of 4x4 Sunraders about their axles. One of them broke his fake dually axle way down in Baja but was able to drive all the way home with the front wheels. (Pretty cool to have redundancy, eh?) I forgot to ask how many miles were on his when it broke. The other owner bought his brand new back in the 80's and just sold it with the original fake dually axle with 250,000 original miles on it. He said that he figures the key for its longevity was because he changed the fluid and checked the bearings regularly and always had less air psi in the outer tires.
  11. Has anyone built a storage box behind the back of your motorhome like Macs 4x4 Sunrader here? At first I thought the box was resting on an extension of the rear bumper but after looking at the large photos I can see that isn't the case. I'm wondering how he attached the box to the Sunrader? Does anyone know how I can contact Mac? Thanks!
  12. I have a few questions about your setup please... 1) Will that thing work as well pointing through the fiberglass wall of a Sunrader as it does through a glass windshield? 2) Is the signal less if there are cars in the parking lot that are in the way of where you are pointing it? 3) What does the Yagi antenna plug into and what else do you have with your system? Do you have a wireless router too? Thanks
  13. Good thing cuz I glassed all my window frames in! Are you able to pull the sliding half of your windows out of the track and put them back in position?
  14. Any of the side or back window glass. I don't have one that is broken but I'm wondering how involved it would be to replace the glass only if I have to.
  15. Have you ever replaced the glass in your motorhome window because it broke? I'm talking about replacing the glass only and not the window frame. How difficult was it to replace?
  16. I have a 1982 Toyota Sunrader 18' motorhome with a Ronco black water tank (59HT-1944) in the bathroom. Does anyone know what kind of plastic they were using to make their black water tanks out of in 1982? (If it matters, this black water tank is actually black in color.) Is it polyethelene? I called Ronco but they are closed until January 2. Thanks Steve
  17. I'm still rebuilding it so its not being driven. When its done I'm going to become a resident of South Dakota so I'll have a South Dakota drivers license.
  18. On the CheapRVLiving forum there is a thread from a woman who lives full time in her Sprinter and she's had managers of Starbucks, etc. come out and tell her to leave because they could see she was pointing her unidirectional antenna at their store from inside her vehicle. Thats why I'm thinking of a omni directional mounted permanently on top and also because it would take up valuable space to store the other one inside.
  19. Thank you for the link. That one looks interesting. I was thinking that for the sake of stealth that it would be nice to have an omnidirectional antenna mounted permanently on top but I will read up on that one.
  20. It seems like these Toyota parts posts should be moved to its own thread so its easy to find later, eh?
  21. Does anyone have suggestions for the best equipment and best ways to boost free WiFi signals? I want to be able to pickup and boost the signals of free WiFi while I'm parked outside of places like Starbucks, McDonalds, Walmart, Home Depot, etc. for my Macbook Pro and iPad. The distance from me in the parking lot to their equipment will require a good antenna and a WiFi signal booster. (In case its relevant, my motorhome is a Sunrader so the shell is fiberglass shell.) This setup was recommended a couple years ago... 1) Amped Wireless A8EX Power Outdoor 8dbi Omni-Directional WiFi Antenna Kit mounted on top of motorhome: Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Amped-Wireless-Out........r+8dbi+Omni-Directional+WiFi+Antenna+Kit 2) Coax cable from Amped antenna described above connects to Hawking HSB2 Hi-Gain Signal Booster inside: http://www.amazon.com/Hawking-HSB2-H.../dp/B0009MYSHU 3) Cable from Hawking signal booster connects to Sabrent NT-H802N IEEE 802.11n USB - WiFi Adpater - NT-H802N: http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=KT5750 4) USB cable from Sabrent external adapter goes to USB port of MacBook Pro. Computer stuff keeps getting better so I'm wondering if there is better equipment and better ways to do this now? Thanks Steve
