  1. It looks like they only put two white clearance lights on this amazing $50,000+ 4x4 Sunrader: http://www.vanspecialties.com/gallery/yota-4x4.html
  2. I want to keep things as simple as possible with the re-do of my Sunrader and all I can think of when I look at those clearance lights is unnecessary energy usage (even with LED's), and numerous points for potential shorts and leaks. 1) Have you ever been ticketed for non-working clearance lights or heard of anyone that has? (Granted, I do see non-working clearance lights as an excuse for cops to pull you over.) 2) Have you removed your clearance lights or know anyone that has and has any cop bothered you or them about not having clearance lights? (I'm thinking if I remove them, or most of them, that its doubtful any cop would even think about them not being there.) Thanks Steve
  3. But the description at the Harbor Freight website says that they work as a tail light, stop light and turn signals. What else would you need for tail lights?
  4. Thanks! No day time photos, eh?
  5. It would be nice to see photos of your setup please. :-)
  6. Is this the thread http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3663 where where John mentioned the LED's you used in your taillights?
  7. Has 18 LED's inside each of them and is only $35 with coupon for two at Harbor Freight. Your thoughts? http://tinyurl.com/cgfs7qv or... http://www.harborfreight.com/one-pair-submersible-trailer-led-lights-94137.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiODg0NjUwMjQiLCJza3UiOiI5NDEzNyIsImlzIjoiMzQuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk%0D%0AIjoiMjgyNiJ9%0D%0A&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1013a&utm_source=1002
  8. Thanks for answering my questions and mentioning the $50 paint job (and thanks to Derek too!). Amazing. Who woulda thunk it? I just spent the last hour reading about it and that is how I'm going to paint mine. I saw photos of cars three years later and they still looked great. And yes, I really like how easy it is to touch up stuff later. I have more questions but will give you a call soon. Thanks again. Steve
  9. And since you mentioned something about Seafoam... I don't know what else is in Seafoam but the stuff smells just like rubbing alcohol. Maybe I should have bought a bottle of rubbing alcohol at Walmart for $2.00 instead of spending $8.00 per bottle on Seafoam!
  10. After all this discussion (and thank you everyone!) about why this wouldn't start from cold without spraying carb cleaner in the carb, I sprayed the heck out of the linkage yesterday with WD40 a couple times and worked everything manually and now she starts up pretty fast when cold without using starter fluid - YAY! While idling, if I stomp on the gas hard and fast (much harder and faster than I would ever do while driving) it will bog down and stall if I don't let up on the gas. Does anyone have any ideas why this could be happening? I don't think it was doing this before I got the choke working and before I did the Seafoam. (A couple weeks ago I put Seafoam in the carb, gas tank, and in the engine and then drove it about 20 miles...then I changed the oil and pcv valve.) Since I haven't driven it since then, could it be the Seafoam in the 1/2 tank of gas that is causing this?
  11. Hey thanks! Could you find out the following when you get a chance please... - How thick is the plywood that was used for the headliner and the walls? - Were the walls done the same way as the ceiling headliner (vinyl wrapped around plywood)? - What are the dimensions of the wood backing thats glued to the walls and the ceiling that you screwed the vinyl clad panels into? - When you glassed in the opening where the front over-cab window was, did you use pre-made fiberglass sheets? If so, where did you buy those sheets? Thanks again.
  12. That makes a lot of sense and thank you. How did you hard wire your LED clearance lights? Did you solder them directly to the wire?
  13. cascadecrud - Dang, that thing is sweet! Can you answer some questions for me please? 1) What is your headliner/ceiling material made out of? Vinyl glued to and wrapped around the edges of 1/8" plywood? 2) Are the black screws holding the ceiling in place regular ol black drywall screws set into finishing washers? 3) I assume the ceiling material is screwed into some 1 X wood that was glued to the fiberglass ceiling, right? Did you use 1 X 2's and what kind of glue did you use to glue the 1 X's to the fiberglass ceiling? 4) Did you repaint the aluminum window frames? If so, what kind of paint did you use and how well has the paint been holding up? 5) If you unroll your window coverings (image 18 here: http://www.vanspecialties.com/gallery/yota-4x4.html) and turn on all the interior lights, can any light be seen from the outside at night around the edges? 6) What vehicle did your front cab seats come out of? Thanks! Steve
  14. I understand changing interior lights to LED's, but whats the point in changing the exterior lights to LED's?
  15. What happened when the tank went boom? Did it explode into pieces or did the top blow off? How do you know how much to fill it? Do you carefully weigh the tank before, during and after the fill up like "waiter" so you get just right amount in it?
  16. What does "NDE" mean? EDIT: Ahhh, Near Death Experience! I had one of those when I was 24 (tunnel to white light and merged with the Universal, etc.) but it wasn't technically an NDE because I wasn't almost dying. Mystics call it Cosmic Consciousness. Anyway, to this day I feel privileged to have had that experience and have no fear of the transition known as "death". On the other hand, as risky as some of my passions are in life, I don't do the gnarly stuff until I have fully researched it and know what I'm getting into.
  17. That link you gave me before specifically said to fill until a little propane comes out. Dang, if there is always the possibility of BOOM then why is it worth the risk to you? Do you hide behind a steel shield and use robotic arms to do the job?
  18. Hah hah, no offense taken - and I am one of those with zero experience dealing with exhaust stuff. I'll know more about the exhaust as I progress with the axle swap but I can see already that it was a very half-behind job. If you were going to be driving in the tropics or anywhere else that gets really hot, wouldn't you be concerned about blocking air flow to the radiator if you mounted the spare tire on the front bumper? I don't think it would be possible to mount the aux any higher than the main gas tank if I install it under the vehicle. To avoid the expense and hassles, I'm hoping I wouldn't have to install a separate filler. Don't you think the line connecting the aux to the main fuel tank should be substantially larger than only 3/4" ID? I was thinking of something more like 1 1/2" ID so there wouldn't be that bottleneck there when filling up. What do you think?
  19. Is there any reason I couldn't connect the aux tank to the main fuel tank with a hose between the two of them located at the bottom of each tank? Any disadvantages to doing that?
  20. I'm not sure where I would put it yet but will have more ideas for possibly doing it after I've spent more time underneath while doing the axle swap. The 83's value for me now is that it is a donor vehicle for my 82. Why should I spend hundreds more on stuff like the axle, hood, front bumper, side mirrors and possibly a gas tank when I can take it off the 83? Besides, the 83 will still have value for someone that can do the work on it themselves or has a friend or family member that will do it for them for free or cheap...and as long as it can roll, the Sunraders fiberglass house will always be of value to someone too. As far as the existing water tank, well, since the interior is going to be radically different than it is now, that might get moved or changed out for something else as I move along with this project... My 82 might require a new exhaust system anyway as it looks pretty funky right now. What is it about marine grade stainless steel flex pipe that turns into a mess? If I put it where the spare tire is now do you have any suggestion where I could hang the spare tire? I'm not sure what size the tanks are yet. I will be titling and registering this vehicle in South Dakota so CA's smog stuff won't apply here.
  21. I'm just checking this out because I might be using more of these in the near future, and this is cheap, and refilling means less of them in the landfills. :-) Hey thanks for providing that link. I have a couple questions please... 1) I read somewhere that putting the bottles in the freezer for a while before refilling reduces the pressure. Do you do that or do you make sure the bottles are completely empty by pushing the relief valve with a tire valve stem remover? 2) I assume the risk of BOOM goes away if you push down on the relief valve every few seconds with your tire valve stem remover until you see liquid propane come out, right?
  22. How difficult is it to remove the gas tank from a 1983 21' Sunrader and install it in a 1982 18' Sunrader as a second tank? Thanks
