  1. Thanks for all of the info everyone. I will let you know how it turns out. I may make a claim with the insurance company so they can check it out.
  2. I know I'm late in the game here, but if you still need it fixed try Cranes refrigeration in Vallejo. Ca. They will have you out the door for 500.00 with a new cooling unit. took about 3 hours for mine.
  3. I'm having structural issues on my 1988 New Horizon: The coach is coming loose from the fiberglass bulkhead that fits over the cab. The left coach wall has detached from this bulkhead, The screws pulled out, and now feel a cold breeze coming through, and can see the wall panel moving up, down, in, and out from my mirror when driving. There's a small gap and a tiny bit of sagging of the coach wall where it mounts to the fiberglass. I notice this after I ran over a few dips in the road while loaded down with four bikes on the back via hitch mount rack. When running over variations in the road, I can feel the wave come thru the coach, moving the drivers seat back a bit, as if the frame is flexing. Does anyone know how to fix this? I;ve crawled under it a few times but can't seem to locate any mounting points on the frame that look loose. The previous owner had a little scooter (Handicap Mobility Scooter) hanging off the back bumper on a custom mount. These scooters weight over 100 lbs, and this may have damaged/fatigued the coach frame. It looks like the bulkhead mounting area under the vinyl strip has been repair once before (screws placed in new locations). I can post pics tomorrow if anyone is curious. Does anybody know any reasonable good shops I can bring it to for a good repair in Northern California or the Bay Area? The local coach repair shop said all it need is to be reattached to the bulkhead, but the flex/fatigued metal needs to be fixed/braced first so separation won't happen again. thanks, Doug
  4. I wouldn't be worried unless you were missing smog components. Even if you were, you could find them on ebay or craigslist. Depending on the price you will be paying, it may be worth it. If it ends up missing emissions components, most shops should have the service manuals and software applications that list the factory emission components so you can track them down. Chances are the parts are all still there. You could always make it a condition of purchase that the seller shows you a clean bill of health from a local shop. I would make sure the rig was checked out at a shop anyway. You'll also want to make sure it has the dually (dual wheel) six lug axle, becuase most others are not safe given the added weight of the coach. Regarding getting the rig California smog legal, I wouldn't worry. If all emission parts are installed and functioning correctly, it will be smogged per "Federal 49 state vehicle" (non-California) standard. You won't be required to install any extra smog components. If the smog is questionable for whatever reason, You can take the truck to the California BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) referee station. They are the final word on testing and certification. The Bay Area referee is at Alameda City College, not sure about ather counties. I have been there several times for my engine swap cars I have built. Doug 1988 New Horizon
  5. Thanks for the info on the mirrors. I need mirrors for my New Horizon Toy and just purchased a used set off of a Sunrader here in the classifieds that needs new mirror heads. I found the mirrors at www.sureplus.com. Pureplus.com came up with a diet site which I probably need, but mirrors first. Thanks again
  6. I have not forgotten the requests for the New Horizon documentation. I've been stuck in jury duty and working OT. I plan on scanning the docs real soon. I will try to get some pics of the rig up soon too. I just need to find some mirrors still. Thank you for all of your great suggestions on fixing my first MH, and thanks for the warm welcome!
  7. Thanks Keith, I'm just having a really hard time finding mirrors to fit my New Horizon. Just finding the mirror hardware (tubing) has been impossible. The Dolphin and New Horizon have the same mirrors. Maybe the mirrors can be refurbished not to drift?
  8. Good idea. I may have to do this if I can't fit the Bargman. I found out the overall height of the Bargman is longer than the 8" cutout so I should be able to fit it in without leaks if I'm careful...
  9. Thanks for all the responses folks. I now have a good idea where to start and what to look for. I went through the service/sales records and found the original sales brochure which at first glance I thought was the manual. I will scan it at upload when time permits. I also have the documentation/manual for the Dometic fridge, furnace, AC, circuit breaker, etc. I need to do some roof repair (resealing) before the rains come, but after I will get this stuff converted to a pdf for whoever wants them. I did have a question regarding the lighted handle (Reflect-O-Lite by Luminaire series 50) to the left of the front door. The light cover is sun baked and missing the top half. I checked into replacing the whole unit with a Bargman lighted assist handle, but the Bargman is a little wider and a little shorter. The cutout for the original assembly is 4" wide by 8" tall while the Bargman is 4.75 wide by 7.75 tall. Has anyone tried to use the newer Bargman or have any ideas on how to make a light cover?
  10. I just purchased a 1988 1 ton New Horizon Toy MH and have been in the process of fixing it up. It's got 38k on it, and looks like it's been stored outdoors its entire life. I just got done peeling off all of the cracked and faded labels (big job) with an eraser wheel on a drill, and now will be cleaning and resealing the fiberglass siding and cab. It did have a roof leak at one time (dry rot area in cabinet) but supposedly the roof was repaired (resealed). I will be checking this out this weekend while resealing the coach in preparation for the winter. My question is, is this a very popular coach, and do I need to look out for anything specific with this model? It has the 6 lug dually rear end with HD six lug front and a small tranny fluid cooler, so we're OK in these departments but I definitely have a project on my hands. I will post some pics if anyone is interested. Also, if anyone needs it, I'm pretty sure I have the owners manual I can make copies from.
  11. Looks like I need the entire setup. mounting tubes on there now don't extend out far enough so I can see past the coach. thanks, Doug
  12. I will give them a call, thank you. Doug
  13. I just picked up a 1988 New Horizon and am looking for side view mirrors. It has some really bad after market mirrors now that aren't cutting it. Any ideas who may have mirrors for these? Also, anything specific I need to watch out for in this model? Can't wait to go thru this RV and take it out to the beach!
