  1. I know with 2 hours left to bid, this might be a bit too late to contribute. but I checked the buyers history. here is the original condition of the "chinook"

He must have bought it, slapped on a new paint job and is hoping to get a quick turn around (though I would still buy it if I were in texas!). you can also see in his history that he bought some of the decals as well if you don't think this is the same one.

  2. SAS would be much better. IFS would be a huge pain in the behind. Dont know if any tanks or lines are in the way. My guess would be in the 2500 dollars range or more with everything

Very thorough and certainly a lot more technical than I obviously can handle myself. I'll make sure to keep this post in mind when I finally have the money/time/knowledge to do a project such as this.

However, i'm sure there are other methods To make a 4x4 chinook and would love to get as many of them posted here onto one thread. Keep posting!

  3. I've never seen a permanent/mounted toilet in a chinook before, only "portable" chemical toilets to stow away. That being the case I don't have a definitive answer but I would imagine that you would have to fabricate your own way to cover the hole.

Just because I'm too into these chinooks would it be possible to get a picture of the toilet; I'd like to see how it is done.

  4. I'm looking into buying a chinook (actually two, but one is a 'junker'). The point being is that the decent 1976 chinook had the roof pop up while driving and tore off. There is damage to the top and the canvas, but the main coach is just fine. The sellers are also offering a '74 chinook that has a decent top and canvas that I was thinking about switching over. Additionally, the top vista window is broken in the 76 but in tact in the 74. The chinook bodies look to be the same but There might be slight differences I might have missed.

-Would the top from a '74 chinook fit onto the coach of a '76?

-Would the vista window (Forward windows above the cab) from the '74 fit into the '76?

  5. Upon searching the discussion board over the past 4 years I have noticed that a lot of people have asked about turning a Chinook into a 4x4. I've noticed that nolan's 4x4 required chopping the frame yet others say it is just a simple swap. Seeing that I am looking into buying a chinook I am now curious.

Does anyone have any knowledge (not speculation) about what it takes to turn a chinook into a 4x4?

-If it really is as simple as replacing the longbed with the chinook coach, what years of toyota's allow for this?

-Are there any other possible conversions worth mentioning?
