  1. That's a good idea. Fortunately for me the charger on my old 6300 charger/converter/distributor died when I first bought the rig. Everything else functions but the charger has been rendered harmless. I just maintain the battery with an automatic charger from time to time. Thanks for the input everybody. Mark
  2. Awesome. Thanks a lot for your help. Have a great day. Mark
  3. Hello Everyone and Happy Spring, I've been reading through some of the old discussions and was wondering if someone could clarify something for me? I have an '86 Dolphin with the old solenoid-style battery isolator. If I leave home with a fully charged house battery will the alternator overcharge it while I am driving? If this is the case I am thinking of installing a switch to kill the power from the alternator when the battery is at or near full charge and then restore the circuit after I've drawn the battery down. I apologize if this has been covered before and I was unable to find (or make sense) of the thread. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Mark
  4. Thanks. I haven't had time to dig into it but it appears (with the new battery) that the converter's worst crime right now is that it's just not charging. I can probably live with that until I upgrade it. Thanks again for the kind offer. Mark
  5. I'll pick up a volt meter and see if I can figure out what's going on. I'm definitely going to upgrade the converter at some point. I'm trying to prioritize for this summer (new/old rig needs more than the checking account can provide). I'll test the old battery (which is almost definitely toast) and replace it. Even if the charger in the converter is shot I should be able to get enough charge from the alternator. We just need power for the water pump and minimal lighting right now. Thanks to both of you for the input. Mark
  6. Hi everyone, This is my first post. I'm the proud, new owner of an 87 dolphin and have a question or two. First let me say thanks for all the great information here on the site; it has been a priceless guide as I figure this thing out. Okey doke. My coach battery will not charge when plugged into shore power. It did charge via the altenator although the battery is pretty old and cheap (hybrid marine battery) and didn't hang on to the charge very long. I have the old 6300 series converter and am guessing it to be the culprit. I don't quite have the funds to upgrade the converter right now which brings us (finally) to my question....Should I go ahead and replace the battery and see if there is an off chance that it is the problem or would the 6300 then jeapordize my new battery and just cause me to buy another new battery and the converter upgrade? Thanks a lot and happy 4th everyone. Mark
  7. If your rig seems well suspended otherwise I don't think I would add air boosters. My understanding is that they are there to augment and support the springs. Adding the boosters just to gain clearance seems like it could create complications (and cost). If you're beast seems undersuspended they are certainly an option. The factory air bags on my 87 dolphin are blown out and I'm replacing them with a kit I found at http://www.suspensionconnection.com/cgi-bi...-motorhome.html . My dolphin, however, sits way low in the back without the bags and clearly needs some help.
