  1. Regarding the frig. If you're parked and have not leveled the camper then the flame will heat the side of the smoke-stack rather than allowing the heat to flow upwards. Long story short you're gonna damage the smoke-stack. And for the record this is what my rigs previous owner told me. I'll occasionally cruising up and down hills in remote areas with little traffic and no damage has been caused so far. Just avoid using the propane while parked too off from level. As for the furnace, if the end where the heat exits (exterior wall) is pointing up you should be fine, however. Most likely the furnace isn't putting out as much heat as it would if the rig was level.
  2. Not without having the frame reinforced. Many people put generators on hitch racks without beefing things up. Personally that seems really foolish to me. Talk to a welder and see what they say.
  3. Nothing needs to go back to the battery. It should be grounded to the frame.
  4. Wait. Something doesn't sound right about that wiring. Take a pic and post.
  5. You never said when the generator was last running. I'm no expert, but from what you said it could be one of several thing. Bad starter, bad solenoid, poor connection somewhere. If you're hearing a clicking sound than you're either not getting a full 12 volts to engage the starter, or something is wrong with the starter. I once had a problem where the starter wasn't properly mounted and the teeth got wedged up against each other keeping the starter from spinning. Worth a check if it's easy to see on your model. Keep us posted. Also, a multimeter would help troubleshoot the problem if it's a lack of voltage issue.
  6. Wes, I already have someone else that showed interest in the couch. It's pretty much sold. Although if things happen change I will keep you posted.
  7. Thanks Mike! Have you done the same thing? I'm debating whether to build something, or just buy a fold up camping bed. Regardless I'll post some before and after pics inn the future. Surprised that I couldn't find more info on it using the search function. Unless you're traveling with a family the couch simply becomes a glamourized luggage rack.
  8. I've rendered my couch useless and decided it's time to sell or store it. I plan to build a bed with storage that will fold up and take up much less space. The only problem is how do I get the thing out? The 21ft Sunland's door is in the rear on the side. Not sure it will fit around the corner, through the kitchen, and out the door. Does it need to go out the window!? Sure am ready to throw it out! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. And if anyone wants to buy a nice red velvet couch (no tears) that folds down than send me a message.
  9. I'll check the brand and type when I get home and update. Don't see how it could hurt so I went ahead and did it three weeks ago. Keeps my camper several degrees cooler during the hot Florida days (we just got a cold front finally). Only suggestion would be to make sure whatever you use is designed for a flat roof and can handle pooling water. Remove all dirt and mold and you should be good to go. I personally spent the extra cash on non-toxic environmentally friendly paint to avoid off-gasing which can last for months when using cheap stuff. Great product, great warranty, and they'll ship anywhere. 1 gallon covered my entire roof three times. Cost per gallon was only 45 bucks. Expensive, but how much do you value your health? I use my camper weekly. Permacoat Plus is what I think it's called. Reflects better than Kool Seal regarding both heat and rays. Again I'll check the label tomorrow and post some more spec/ratings regarding the paint. Can even sell you the second gallon that I never had to use for much cheaper.
  10. I purchased my toy from a retired engineer that without a doubt knew every inch and spec for each part on the motorhome. The 21ft camper towed a Geo Metro for thousands of miles with no problems, however. Later when he and his wife decided to tow a trailer with two scooters they decided to reinforce the rear end for towing (because of tongue weight from the trailer). A welding shop performed the job and rated the receiver at 2,000 pounds. I can only guess from what I saw that their trailer fully loaded weighed in close at 1,200 pounds max. That is the weight I personally plan not to exceed.
  11. So my old boss gave me a brand new generator for free that I couldn't pass up. I know it won't fit as is, and that it can't run in that tiny space for cooling purposes, however. Where there's a will there's a way! Pic up a cheap generator from a Costco for under 500 bucks. Cut it down to the bare minimum for less weight and smaller size (remove upper framing). Slightly expand the compartment if possible (mine has extra room under the booth seat in the Sun Land Express). Ditch the gas tank and get a line going from the gas tank like you would for an Onan. Sure you can't run it while driving, but it's stored, not hanging off the back, and ready to pull out and run. Sure it's ghetto, but cheap! Seriously, why spend 3 grand on something you'll barely use.
  12. Walk all you want with no need for the board. Have an 86 Sun land express and the previous owner and I have a combined weight of close to 400 pounds. We both walked on the roof near each other with him showing no hesitation! Climb and walk with confidence.
  13. Haha! This is my first post of many to come since I only recently became an owner of a 1986 Sunland Express. I would lay down and peak around to see if you can SAFELY WITHOUT GETTING WET locate the dripping. A two part epoxy with cloth can easily repair any cracks. These motor homes didn't come stock with any heating devices to keep the tanks from freezing in the winter. Could they have possibly froze in the past and cracked the tank somewhere. The guy who's camper I purchased has flood lights mounted near the tanks so that when the temps drop, the heat from the lights is enough to keep the tanks from freezing. Good luck. Hope this helps.
