  1. Can anyone help me with tranny swap questions? I have the 3 speed auto w/OD currently in my '87 Dolphin (22RE) and want to swap it out for a 5-speed manual. I'm a bit confused about what exact trans I should be looking for? Is it a W56 or something different? Also does it need to be specific to a 2WD truck (no transfer case)? Also can you provide a basic overview of the project? I would think that the manual should bolt up to the engine and then of course holes have to be made in the firewall for a clutch master & the appropriate plumbing run to the slave, a hole in the tunnel for the shifter. The pedal setup has to be switched to a manual set (this can be taken from a donor truck at the yard?). What tranny mount/crossmember issues will I encounter & will the driveline need to be modified (shortened as the manual is going to be longer, right?). I guess the wiring for the b/u lights will also have to be modified...any ECM issues? I really have no clue how to do this but don't worry, I'll be sure to get qualified help in actually performing the swap. Any information you guys (and gals of course) can provide in helping me understand the basic process would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
  2. well with 4 people we got it up there with no trouble. installation was easy & it works great...thanks for all your help!
  3. Hello, The mechanical pump on my Onan 3.0 took a dump & I'm wondering if I can replace it with an low pressure electric pump and if so what output PSI should the electric be? Also how should I wire it? Should it be wired to the start/stop circuit so it comes on when it cranks and runs & then shuts off when I turn the switch to stop? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for all your help, Mike! I'll let you know how it turns out.
  5. ok, thanks. I'm sure it will be alot of fun! Anyway which vent hole should I use? rear or middle? Thanks!
  6. I got the AC unit (coleman mach 3) and have a question about where to mount it: Which existing vent should I use? The one in the rear, where the wires are located? Or the one in the middle of the coach? If I used the middle hole how can I cleanly route the wiring to it? Also, any suggestions on how to actually get this thing on the roof? Its pretty heavy and a lot larger than I had thought. (2 people on ground and two on top?) Thanks!
  7. Hello, Here are the pics of the hole & screw holes from the rack on my roof. And also the a couple of pics of where the overhead curves in front and the gap that I was talking about. Any ideas on the best way I could fix em? Thanks!
  8. Thanks Mike... As usual you have great information...much appreciated!
  9. Hello, This is probably a really dumb question but the fresh water inlet on the side of the coach (not the potable water tank fill), do I just run a hose to it, connect & then turn the hose on? Does the inlet automatically cut off the water when it is full? I'm just afraid that if I put the hose on it & turn it on that it might break pipes or cause flooding somewhere in/under the coach. Please advise. Thank you!
  10. ok, i'll try to get a few pics posted in the next couple of days. Thanks! oh, and other consideration...what about weight? wouldn't fiberglass or spray on liner both add quite a bit of weight? the poor lil 22RE (auto) is having a tough time as it is.
  11. take it camping & then deliver the mail....that ride is too cool!
  12. Hello Kenneth, How much are they asking? Make sure it is 1 ton rear end (6 lug) & check carefully for any signs of water damage in the coach.
  13. Hello, I have been reading about leak/roof sealing on some of the threads & am not sure which way to go. Diesel Mike if you're listening I'd love to hear more details about how you installed the fiberglass mats & how difficult it would be for someone who has no experience with fiberglass. How about the bedliner spray to coat & seal it? My only big problem is with the overhang at the cab where there is a gap (1/16-1/8th in.) between the side panel where the roof curves around it. Can I recaulk this & then gently tighten the screws? Should I use eternabond to seal the gap? I am not aware of any other leaks but I just got the MH and it doesn't rain much in the summer in Nevada. One of the vents has duct tape around it so I am assuming that it did (or does) leak and there is a small tear (about 1/2 in diameter) in the metal roof. Any input & adivice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you
  14. Thanks Diesel, Sounds pretty simple. I'm gonna give it a go! As usual your advice is straightforward easy to understand and highly appreciated! I do have one more question about the water heater, The drain at the bottom is all rusted and non-functional (won't turn). If I try to get it out and replace it do I run the risk of damaging the fitting it goes in & making the situation worse? (it does not leak but I imagine that it probably could use a good flush). Thanks again! ps: That sure is a clean & beautiful rig that you have!
  15. oh....and it DOES have the panel on the ceiling that I have been told is the wiring for the AC & a wall thermostat.
  16. Hello, I will be adding rooftop AC to my '87 Dolphin and would like some advice. 1) what is a good overall unit & value? (is the Coleman Mach 3 a good choice?) 2) Is something that I can probably install my self (above average mechanical knowledge & a decent set of tools) and what is the basic steps/procedure of the installation? Thank you all, I really appreciate your help!
  17. Thanks Diesel, I dunno who makes the water heater. The valve assembly says unitrol on it but I couldn't find any markings or tags showing who manufactures the unit. The Good news is that I finally did get it to fire and it made nice hot water. I had to use a BBQ lighter and warm both the pilot and the tube next to it. Then when I released the button the pilot stayed lit & the furnace fired when I turned the knob to "on". No luck yet in finding the cable inlet. I checked all the panels & it seems that it should be in the fridge compartment. I'm gonna pull out the micro & then remove the plate that is holding the cable outlet and see I can trace it or just route a new one down to the outside fridge compartment. I really appreciate your help as I will be living in it for 3-?? months (however long it takes to selll my house)!! Thanks,
  18. yes, but you'll have to run your generator to power it which isn't very cost efficient. straight electric is fine if you park where you can have shore power and wait til your connected to put stuff in it.
  19. Well, I fig'd out the furnace and got it working but I need help with the water heater. I can now get the pilot to light but every time I release the button it goes out. I've held the button down as long as 2 min's but still it goes out when the button is released. What next? take apart and clean? (if so please explain the exact clean procedure and what to use). Does it maybe need a new thermal coupling? Also it has a slot head screw on the front iof the valve assembly. What does this do and what position should it be in? Thanks for all your help!
  20. Ok, Thanks Moose....I'll be trying it some more today. ps: i did get the furnace to fire.
  21. 1) I can't get the pilot light on the water heater to light. I put the valve in pilot position and hold it down and put a flame to what I thought was the pilot orifice on the right hand side of the unit and then release the red button, but nothing. Am I doing something wrong? can somebody tell me the exact procedure to get the water heater lit? 2) The furnace will not blow hot air. I can't find any pilot or place to light the furnace. Does it require manual lighting or is it automatic? Please advise of procedure to light or troubleshoot. 3) Next to the 110 outets above the fridge & micro there is a coaxial cable outlet (TV I assume) but where does the cable from the outside (rv park, house, etc) connect into the coach? I can't find a cable connection on the outside or in the compartments anywhere. Thanks, I really appreciate all your help!!!
  22. I fig'd it out 2 on top to airbag on each side & one on bottom to airshocks. Thanks!!
  23. well, here's a newbie question...where is the breaker box, invertor/charger located on the coach? thanks!
  24. Hello, I just bought an '87 Dolphin & it has the air shocks in the back and a panel at the bottom of the coach with three air valves. The top two are marked left & right and put air in the rear shocks. The one at the bottom is not marked & I don't know what it is for. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!!
