  1. My Dometic will not work on a slope (not sure at what point it shuts off). Last week I was on the Northern Cal Pacific Coast at at sloped camp spot and my frig shut off for the 16 hours I was there and started right up again after I vacated the camp site... I was on propane the whole time and the flame never went out. You should see a faint blue/gold flame through the site tube if you cup your hands and make it dark enough. mark '87 Dolphin
  2. What a lot of cool vehicles on their website! But they are pretty expensive for such old vehicles and, unfortunately, they'd almost certainly never get into the US due to bumper restrictions... even if they met the 25 year old rule. US import laws suck! Mark
  3. Very cool vehicle... Am I correct in guessing that you got it very cheap in Japan and that most of the cost was shipping and complying with BC rules? I remember when I was in Japan in the Navy in the 70's a Japanese car just 3 years old sold for maybe 20% or less of it's original cost due to the high cost to have them meet current safety standards. US service folks on the base could by them way cheap and license them on the base for free... but you couldn't ship them home without a cost prohibitive expense. Mark '87 Dolphin
  4. My furnance didn't work (blow hot) either when I got unit even with it was plugged into 120v shore power. Then I finally realized that the propane needed to be turned on! good luck. Mark
  5. I've got a red togggle on my '87 dolphin that is wired in to a transmission relay for the Overdrive (OD)... What is does is defeat the high altitude OD shut off... thus enabling the the OD to continue to work above the 3,000 foot normal cut off. It's useless as the OD is a bad thing to use anyway (at least on the 4 cyl. 22re's I'm told). You should be able to stick your head under the dash a bit and trace the wiring somewhere... mine was pretty obvious once I focused on what I was seeing. mark
  6. figured it out....What it (red lighted toggle) does is ground out (through the lighted toggle) the blue (hot) lead coming into the transmission relay. This would have the effect (I presume) of defeating that relay which I suspect is linked to the high altitude sensor. Also, on closer inspection, the toggle is definitely aftermarket and the transmission relay is stock. So someone wanted to be able to defeat the high alt sensor with the flip of a switch. I'll confirm this on my first trip over Donner pass in a couple months. Does this make sense to you tech folks? - Or am I off base here? thanks, Mark

  8. Now that's an interesting idea about the rear deck light... that's what my owner's manual calls it, too... Could it be for a light that illuminates the RV/motorhome inside which is activated from the cab at that toggle in question? Anybody have an RV light switch that can be turned on from the cab? Thanks! Mark
  9. I just took it out to try the overdrive... no luck. My regular OD button on the shifter works fine... it shifts into OD above 50 or so... pushing the shifter button on/off causes the tranny gear to shift up or down. But when I use the lighted toggle switch there is no effect. I am at 2400 feet (Nevada City, CA). I tried it (red lighted toggle switch) with OD engaged flipping the toggle to on and then off again, and then with the OD disengage (switched of on shifter button). The toggle had no effect either way. The red light within the toggle switch itself glows just fine when the toggle is turned on, though! Maybe my altiude sensor (if I've got one) isn't working? What does an altitude sensor look like and where might I find it? Engine compartment or elsewhere? Thanks much to both of you who've replied. Mark
  10. I've got an 87 Dolphin 900 and it's got a toggle switch that's wired to a blue plastic relay "Transmission relay - Toyota" The relay is about 2 inches by 3 inches and seems original. The toggle switch has a red lighted handle that goes hot with the ignition switched on (and with the toggle switched on). Anyone know what this is/does? Wild guesses appreciated too. Could the transmission cooler have an on/off switch?? Thanks much, Mark

  12. Can anyone help me out of my puzzle with this red (lighted when switched on) toggle switch? What is it for? It looks original and is located just above the hood release lever. It's on an 87 Dolphin 900 version. The owner's manual call it a "rear deck light" but I think that's just for a pick-up only. Thanks much in advance. Mark@phch.org
