We just purchased an 87 Dolphin. We have previously owned an old camp trailer, new Coleman tent trailer, VW camper, Ford Conversion Van, Tear Drop and most recently a 34 Pace Arrow. Somewhere in there we also lived aboard a 34 Foot Carver for a few years. We intend for the Dolhpin to be our retirement home in a few years.
We chose the Dolphin because it fits us, our parking area and I just like the look of them. We once spent 3 three weeks in a 7 foot tear drop I made for us to tow behind our road bike. The Dolphin is huge compared to that.
The Dolphin is in pretty good shape but I plan to do a complete restoration before retirement. I either will rebuild the 22RE or possibly put in a toyota diesel. I have been toying with bio fuels and straight vegetable oil. Nothing like leaving a trail of french fry odor in your wake!
I noticed the motorhome has a slight list to the port side (left) when sitting in the drive way. It has air bags and they seem to be holding pressure so I am hoping I don't have some other suspension problem, like a broken shackle or leaf spring. I don't hear any particularly bad noises when driving (even over speed bumps). It actually rides much nicer than our Pace Arrow did. I think I may need to empty the air bags and then progressivly measure air pressure and lift amount for each side while adding air.
So far my to do list has about 50 things on it. Looks like it is going to be a fun project.
