  1. Thanks for the input on the hose. I feel like I'm an expert now when it comes to fiddle a alternator out on the bottom. First took out the old one, put in the new denso one only to realize the thing where the plug goes in was not aligned so not possible to plug. Returned it and exchanged it for a remanufacture one as this was the only one they had. Put that one in and when I wanted to tighten the upper screw, it would not tighten so it turns out the thread is not good. Will go back tomorrow and exchange again. What a mess. Anyways hopefully I can get it done tomorrow. Once the part is good, it shouldn't be longer than another hour.
  2. OK trying to get it out of the bottom but there's this other hose that's blocking it (see picture). Do I have to drain this one as well?
  3. Thank you Linda. Will pickup this one. Still debating if I should try to swap it out myself or have someone so it. I'm not experienced at all with this stuff. Do you think it's something I would be able to do? If not, what would you expect to cost to have someone do it?
  4. OK so the alternator is done. Went on a camping trip to Mt. Rainer with a friend. Got there, no problem. Next morning, charge and break light on. Stopped and checked the voltage on the battery. I think it was something like 17 V or so so the battery was still being charged, but the alternator got really hot (a tiny bit of smoke coming from it). Drove to the top and did a hike. Decided to not stay another night and drive back home (about 3 hrs). The charge and break light did not come on until 1 hr before home. Luckily we made it home. Out of curiosity checked how much the alternator was drawing when the motor was off and it was between 8 and 9 amps. Alternator was really hot and battery was drained quite a bit. Anyways, will have to switch it out. Would this alternator be the correct model? https://capitaloneshopping.com/p/db-electrical-and-0079-new-alter/DJHJ6WJWTH?extReq=true&run=9b5171c6-154c-4395-bb10-8a5af2c266ef&offerId=67b194f6-69b6-4e96-a2b4-bf88f9685364
  5. Where do I find the isolator? See attached pictures measuring the current on the wire going into the alternator. The wire previously goes through this little box.
  6. I determined it's the alternator because I followed the cable that is drawing the current and it ends in the alternator. Regarding the contacts: yes @Maineah. This is exactly the issue I'm facing from time to time.
  7. Alright so another issue came up. Battery went dead and I was wondering what it was. I was able to jump the car to start it and with a little juice in it hook up a battery charger. When the battery was full, I checked and found that something was still drawing ~3.2 amps. I found out, that it's the alternator so I suspect that needs to be replaced. is that an easy job? I was thinking about renting a car lift bay in one of these diy garages as it will make it so much easier than in the street. Would that be someone with very little knowledge would be able to do? Also thought at the same time replacing the starter contacts as I've had issues with the car starting before and I suspect the contacts to be the reason. Thanks everyone

  9. Yes, filling it in the little dipstick container. I cleaned the area around the connection from the power steering to the steering wheel connection from all fluid, turned the car on, turned the wheel left to right all the way and back and checked and found the pink fluid on the bottom of that connection.
  10. Hi everyone. New day new issue. Transmission fluid has been leaking ever since I have the rig. I just fill it up before I leave for a trip and that lasts throughout the trip. I just took a little bit of a closer look and I'm pretty sure it has to do with the power steering unit. I saw that there was an O ring in a position that does not make sense. See picture attached. Any idea where this o ring is coming from and what the leak could be? Thanks!!!
  11. I ended up building a gasket myself. Should be working now. Thanks everyone for your help and advice
  12. Thanks guys. I probably just end up cutting one myself if there's no part to buy
  13. Old Motor is exactly the same. I'm almost certain there was no gasket in there....
  14. I bought the one from the link that @extechposted. I will take some pictures tomorrow. I kept the fan and took it from the old broken motor. I don't see the gasket anywhere as well
  15. Yeah I suspected that. Pretty sure the old one didn't have any or at least I cannot remember. Any chance I can buy one?
  16. I apologize for all my dumb questions, but now I have the motor but it seems like I'm missing something. The screws will not hold it tight because the part where they are screwed in is higher than the casing of the blower. Am I missing a gasket?
  17. Lol, much cheaper than the stuff I found. Thank you so much!!!!!
  18. OK good point. Do you happen to have a link to a motor online? Having a tough time identifying if it would work for my truck or not.....
  19. Thought about saving the $100 and not risking damaging the fan cage....
  20. I mean to be honest, I'm not really using the lowest level blower speed anyways. Is there any reason not to keep using the motor while it works on 2,3 and 4 until it dies?
  21. So i checked again and it looks like the motor is broken somehow. It will turn super slow if at all. Looks like too much friction inside. Does anyone know how to find the exact model where I know it will fit or do you recommend going to Napa. All I know about the rig is that it is a 1987 Toyota with a Sunrader shell OK quick update. I just connected the fan again because I wanted to take a video. It looks like the fan is slowly coming back to life. First it ran super slow on all settings, then it started spinning full speed on high. After turning it up and down a couple of times it got up to speed on setting 3 and 2. Only on low it is still extremely slow. I tried to remove the fan blade thing but I'm not sure how to get it off. Is there a specific place I should oil or grease the motor?
